I hear you. I'm even worse off on Modern Thor. I've got 2 red covers from tokens and that's it. He'd definitely be the character I'd be most interested in maxing next if I had the covers.
You have lots of good choices for your first to 141's so pick who you like. I just went for the first two 3* guys I had maxed covers for (Magneto and Punisher) and I've found it to be worth every ISO.0 -
I'd say max who you like playing the most. Thor, C mag, Patch, Punisher are all good. You won't regret putting ISO into them if you enjoy playing them in the first place. My 2 cents0

Funny thing is... the more I brought up other characters to level 100, the less I really used Punisher. Not really sure why, but I'm not really caring for Punisher as much as I used to. I think Modern Thor has really spoiled me a bit, as those two really do not work well together at all.
Might not have much of a choice though at the moment, as although I have many at 100, not many are 141 eligible. Outside of Patch, I'm only looking at Hulk for a tank (needs more Anger ), unless I want to mad Iso dump again to bring BP up to speed. Otherwise than that, I'm pretty much looking at Psylocke, Punisher, and Hood for 141s.0 -
Punisher isn't all that, but he really does come into his own when leveled up. He's a support character, and a very effective one.
I'm really interested in getting The Hood to 141. I know I hate fighting him. I think he could be the 3* OBW.
I think Thor, Magneto or Patch all work as 3* offensive workhorses. You can't do wrong leveling them.
I do lament the lack of a well rounded 3* roster, but it will come. But you can honestly handle most PvE with buffed 2* if you play it right. The 141's really help with PvP. You know this though, you've around the MPQ block longer than I have. If I can help alleviate your doubts about making the 141 plunge I'll be happy to try0 -

Used the painfully slow trickle of ISO from the Unstable ISO-8 to bump Hood/Cmags to 100, so that makes 8. The wide range of characters at this level is rather versatile for the PvE events. Combined with the 2** 85s, I can field quite a few teams that can absorb damage to keep scaling to a minimum.
So, it would be decision time, except that from the PvE, I kept reaching a conclusion that I should bring BP up to par as a weak Rage of the Panther was really hurting me. Then again, I'm **not** thrilled about the 65k ISO needed to bring him up to 100. Need to keep talking myself into believing that Psylocke has a perfectly viable black as a substitute, as does Punisher. Maybe I'll work on those two first since I seem to be fixated on black at the moment.
Then again, I **know** that I'm going to get the urge to level up a covered Gold Daken.... bleh!0 -
Meme contest update:
Sounds like our first choice for grand prize is MPQ nerfing procedure. I suspect Kelbris already has an alliance, but I'll ask.
Hamster ragnarok was submitted by MTGOferret, who's in Django Unbuffed; PVP 3 hours left was submitted by OTERSEY, who's in Ace of Blades.
My other contenders for the grand prize are sms4002's "Invisible Woman over level 100: not sure if hacker or walkyourpath" and DirigiblePilot's Joker meme. Anyone else have a favorite not yet mentioned here?
I also like the adorable tinykitty (Arogntbastrd, who's in Ace of Blades), and charlesjbarry's Snakes on a Plane reference.0 -
I also like the funbalanced spidey at the desk. But those you mentioned above are great.
After tanking all weekend, I was hoping to grab the first place X-force in First Avenger. With about 8 hours to go I was sitting at 730. Held the top spot for a few hours and then someone from S.H.I.E.L.D alliance went on a rampage. Built up over 1100 pts and then shielded. No way my team is capable of that so I took my Top 5 ranking. One day I'll get that X-force, one day.0 -
I personally like the Snakes on a Plane reference (after all, Samuel Jackson does play Nick Fury in the movies) as well as the Spidey desk "funbalance" one.
As a honorable mention, who can say no to the adorable tinykitty either? <--- weakness for cuteness0 -

I like all of the above. The two I like most are PVP 3 hours left and MPQ nerfing procedure.0 -
After tanking most of the weekend also. I finally finished top 10 with 738 points in the last PVP. Happy as a fiddle, because I haven't finished this high in a while. I got up to 698 which was 2nd place at the 12th or 13th hour mark. Then I woke up to get ready for work and was down to 560s. Luckily was able to work my way back up and then shielded at the 3 hour mark.0

I love the MPQ nerfing procedure meme.
Just for the fun of grumbling. I'm French, after all.0 -
Another vote for Snakes on a Plane then.
Managed to snag top 5 in First Avenger with relative ease, so that's good. Still leaves me with a less than ideal 3/5/4 Grey Widow, though. I really need some more green covers for her one day, so I can respec her into a 5/3/5.
Unless my assistance is going to be required for the alliance reward in the Grey Widow event, I'm going to be tanking that one, since my MMR is getting me some iffy opponents and I only need one more black cover for Psylocke. The Blue IW would be nice, but right now I'm happier just not spending any HP on shields, I think.
Going to wake up an hour before event end to try and grab first place in Unstable ISO though. Just in case Xforce Wolvie ever gets funbalanced into something remotely resembling useful.0 -
I also like MPQ nerfing procedure and hamster Ragnarok most. But others mentioned above are also very good...
Stopped at 600pts in first avenger as I did not need the green cover... will try to go top10 in Grey Widow tournament as I need the red cover.
Really don't know yet whether I am motivated to wake up at 5am for the finish of the Iso event... at the same time if I don't do it I will certainly be out of top50 (even if I go to sleep at #1). So I will probably have to do some fights in the morning... in my view it is really badly designed , when all depends on whether you can play the last hour (especially when it is 5am in the morning)... hope it will be better again in next tournament0 -
R50 is live in the app store... and with that the mighty walls of S.H.I.E.L.D Alliance and 5DeadlyVenoms came tumbling down. In reality, I'm sure everyone in those alliances is killing it, so no one is getting booted, but it will be interesting to see the drama ensue in other alliances now that there is transparency.0

Haha, yeah, everyone really has to pull their weight now. Or not, depending on how serious everyone is.
I'm really considering giving Human Torch a serious whirl (I'm a sucker for glass cannons), so to me he's worth waking up for. And if I can snag an Xforce Wolvie too, that'll just be a nice extra.0 -

Do you have a good feel for the effect of that strategy on scaling? Scaling is hitting me pretty hard at this point. PvE is starting to feel more like a chore than fun.Der_Lex wrote:I'm really considering giving Human Torch a serious whirl (I'm a sucker for glass cannons), so to me he's worth waking up for. Hope I can pull off a top 50 finish. I work tonight and depending on when I get off I'll either finish #25 or #250...0 -
I ranked the first avenger and merely focused on red ISO-8 over the weekend. In the top 20 at just under 300 in the widow event. And top 20 in red ISO. Just wanting to finish top 50 to pull all three torch covers. I actually needed the widow covers but my MMR was ridiculous. Need that Psylocke's blue to have her cover maxed. Debating dropping a bunch of ISO into widow for the event and waiting on my push to max Hulk my only cover maxed 3*. I'd vote snakes on a plane with the others having alliances.0

My experience with scaling this event hasn't been too bad. With the exception of Congo and Venezuela on the current map, I don't have any "deadly" nodes. A pretty even mix of hard, normal and easy nodes. I've been playing the 12 hour refreshes, just enough nodes to get into the Top 10 or below the Top 10. Nothing more. There's really no reason to grind it out given the lack of rewards and potential impact on personal scaling. After I finish playing the nodes, i'll use the rest of my roster to purposefully lose a bunch of matches (5 or so). Not sure, if this has an impact, but hoping it keeps my scaling from sky rocketing. Curious what others are doing..0 -

Personal notes:
-- I keep three tiers of teams: "A" tier teams of 100+ 3***s and buffed 2**s, "B" tier teams of 70-85s 2**s, and "C" tier teams of level 50s.
-- To keep scaling down, play with an appropriately leveled team for a node's levels. Play to win, but play sloppily. If you control the board, down the other side except for one opponent and let them execute some powers on your team. Accumulate a fair amount of damage on multiple characters before winning the match. Especially on the "B" and "C" tier teams, do not be afraid of 'accidentally' letting non-critical team members be downed.
-- Do NOT use OBW's AGD or Spidey's Web Healing in fights, unless absolutely critical to avoid a wipeout of time-critical characters. Healing reduces net damage taken, and if too little net damage is inflicted at the end of the fight, you risk incurring scaling. Always heal in the prologue.
-- When healing in the prologue, do NOT bring those characters back to the event immediately, unless time is of the essences and you are out of health packs. The game can interpret a character that was nearly downed restoring 5000 HP of damage in only 5 minutes as the same as actually being healed in the fight itself and "reinterpret" the results of the last fight for scaling purposes. Personal rule of thumb: 30 minute timeout on these characters, preferably a full hour if possible.
-- Unless in the final cycle of the final round of a major PvE event, NEVER use a stunlock/infinite turn combo in fights. These will scale you to 230 faster than any of the issues listed above. Even then, only uses these combos if and only if you are fighting for top 1/2 placement and clearing these nodes are absolutely critical for success.
-- The same can be said for boosts. Do not use boosts except for the final, major event ending push.
-- The ultimate goal is to "persuade" the game into thinking that every fight is a challenge, whether it is or not.0 -
I focus only on how many times I win, and not at all on how much damage I take. This event I've basically not played until the end of a refresh, and then played all the nodes once in descending order of points. Starting on day 3 I would also play the highest value nodes until I was just outside the top 10. I've typically been playing Patch, OBW, and either Magneto or Cap, as required, so not taking a whole lot of damage thanks to Patch self-healing and OBW.
My current levels, for reference, from left to right on the map:
