Chaos League alliance chat

I agree. I think we should admit them until the next contest too. This way we get the added power of the extra member in events. With events that announce they will introduce new characters you could have people predict the characters abilities (stars/colors/etc.) and whomever is closest when the event starts and the character is revealed wins. Won't work with gold characters very well...
You could also do an event for people to create a Chaos League signature.0 -
New contest is posted. Feel free to enter!
I'm not too concerned with inviting/kicking people, that part's been pretty easy. Running out of ideas is a concern for sure, but I figure if we don't have a good idea for a contest we can always not run one or recycle a previous idea.
Thanks to everyone for talking me out of making another Patch. That was a close one!0 -

Yeah dude, you know better!0 -
I've been having the worst luck with event tokens lately. I rarely pull a 3-star out of those anymore.
Of course, you'll see I'll get a Patch from the Best There Is token, since that's one of the handful of 3-stars that I actually have maxed covers for.0 -
Maybe I got yours, because I just pulled Patch from my event token. Was hoping for Cap, but hey, 500 ISO is 500 ISO.0
-
I've had horrible luck outside of a Psylocke from a standard about 10 tokens back. I got my 7th black Punisher out of my recent Heroic progression token. Bye bye pun pun... if only we could share covers amongst alliance members.
BTW Mischief - awesome work on the contest. Very cool.0 -
Yeah, has intra-alliance cover trading been suggested in the suggestions forum yet? Because that would be fantastic. Might be a bit too open for abuse with adding/booting people, though.
I got a whopping single Psylocke from the 20 or so tokens that I got in the last PVE, I think that was my most depressing token run yet. OTOH, I've gotten about 6 IW covers from standard (!) tokens so far, and an X-Force Wolvie from a heroic.0 -
I doubt that they will allow sharing covers for free. D3 lives from selling them for a high price. But lets hope I am wrong...
Luck was also not so good to me in the last 2-3 weeks, never saw a 3*
Still I cant really complain - i already got 4 blue Hoods from tokens (:0 -
I have an idea for our next contest, tentatively entitled "chase the rabbit".
The basic idea is to encourage people who are making the 2* to 3* transition to do so in the lightning rounds, and to prove it can be done. To that end, some number of Chaos League members will agree to play at least one lightning round using ONLY 2* heroes. Anyone participating in the contest also must limit themselves to 2* heroes. Anyone who places higher in a lightning round than at least one of us (or maybe all of us?) is entered for a chance to win the prize.
Thoughts? I'll volunteer to be one of the rabbits; anyone else?0 -
That's a cool idea but I suspect results will be highly biased based on the mystical "MMR" rating. You can probably do very well with a 2* team if you are only paired against other 2* or 1* teams. As someone in the 2* to 3* transition my self I find it hard to advance in the LRs with my team of 2*s when I am always paired with people with maxxed out C. Magneto or Rag.
Speaking of MMR does anyone have a good feeling to the effect that retreating a match has on MMR in either the PvE or PvP setting?

While I'm no tanking elder grandmaster like Lyrian, I do tank regularly to keep my MMR low. Some things I've noticed:
Retreating does seem to impact PvP ranking
While I'm waiting to join a PvP tournament (I usually wait a day before joining), I will go into a lightning round and retreat my entire roster - takes about 20 minutes. Ideally, I would set-up a tank team but if you dont join in the first few minutes you won't see those seed teams needed to get a tank team of lvl 1s going so retreating is next best.
After retreating my entire roster 2-3 times I notice my MMR in the next PvP is much lower.
MMR rapidly scales back up - after placing high in 1 PvP tournament (sometimes 2 if I'm lucky) my MMR is back up to facing tough guys. It seems to scale much faster than it used to.
In PvE, I noticed in the last couple tournaments retreating does not lower the level of the enemies like it used to. That being said, I think retreating may impact your personal scaling in the next refresh. After I clear the nodes 1-2 times I retreat a few matches and purposefully let my guys get merc'ed. Seems to help after the refresh. So far I'm not facing lvl 230 guys so I think it works.0 -
Yes, a big part of the point of the contest is to prove that if you manage your MMR you can place more easily in the lightning rounds.
Check out the strategery doc -- I added a full section on tanking. To answer your question, retreating a single time has basically no effect on PvP. I don't know how many losses it takes to influence your ranking but a rough guess would be something like 20-30. As for PvE, I think they said that tanking is no longer effective. I haven't tried it since Thick as Thieves, so don't know.
Just for emphasis, if you're working on the 2* to 3* transition, read the section on tanking! My current matchups in the Best There Is:
L169 Wolverine, L50 IM35, L85 CStorm
L153 Wolverine, L61 Daken, L54 OBW
For reference, the team I'm running against them is L217 Patch, L100 Magneto, L90 Psylocke, so I have a pretty considerable advantage. I started the tournament about 6 hours ago and am sitting at 411 points unshielded, with not a single hit all day, and this is after having played a full Magneto round last night trying to win it.I will go into a lightning round and retreat my entire roster - takes about 20 minutes. Ideally, I would set-up a tank team but if you dont join in the first few minutes you won't see those seed teams needed to get a tank team of lvl 1s going so retreating is next best.0 -
Mischief's strategery doc is good, i recommend all read it.
Just out of curiosity, where is everyone sitting in the Iso-8 PvE tourney? I'm pretty much playing the nodes once per refresh, maybe tacking on a couple extra wins on the high pt total nodes. Gets me up to the top 10 and then by the next refresh i've fallen down to 80-100 range. I don't want to grind too hard, need those rubberband pts at the end. I want that #1-2 spot. I don't have an X-Force yet.0 -
I'm doing the same. First day I played all the nodes once with about 90 minutes to go; today I played them all once plus a couple extra to get to #12. I like being close enough that I'm confident I can push to where I want to be on the second-to-last day, but not in the top 10 so that I stay below the radar (not that that matters, but I like the idea of being stealth).
Currently at #101 with 15930 points. Have only one yellow XForce, so would like to get one of the top 2 spots -- I think when they eventually buff him he will be very good, and I want to get his covers now while people don't care too much about him.0 -

Count me in on this0 -
I hate it when I'm right... got a green Patch from my Best There Is Token. That of course means more useless 2-stars from tokens where I could actually use the 3-star in the future.
And I should really tank/play lightning rounds more, but work/life often gets in the way. Not a bad problem to have, mind you.0 -
Upcoming Patch Preview - R50
by IceIX » Wed Apr 02, 2014 6:25 pm
As always, these Patch Notes are not necessarily complete and may change slightly before release.
Alliances
- S.H.I.E.L.D. code hackers have subverted a portion of H.A.M.M.E.R. communications frequencies that have enabled them to allow Agents that are in Alliances to talk directly to one another. Alliance Chat may be accessed from within the Alliance tab.
- Alliance Leaderboards now occupy their own tab instead of using multiple taps to get there.
- S.H.I.E.L.D. has improved their Alliance member tracking technology and now allows members to view the individual Event scores within an Alliance.
- The top three Alliance players in an Event are indicated by trophies next to their names on the Alliance Leaderboards. S.H.I.E.L.D. congratulates the top performers!
UI
- Scrolling on any supported menu screen now accelerates depending on the strength of the swipe used.
- S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents using PC interfaces may use their mouse wheel to scroll through supported menu screens.
- Selling a rewarded 1*/2* character from the Rewards Cache has been streamlined to show only one popup to show the sell price. 3*/4* star characters still have a two popup system to confirm the sale.
- The Critical tile is now more gem-like and better displays that it works with all varied colors.
Misc
- The download size of the application on iOS has been reduced to under 100MB to allow users on cellular networks to download the app. Additional assets will be downloaded in the background while the game is running.
Saw this in "News and Announcements". I'm especially excited to see what the new in-game chat will look like, assuming they're really bringing it out soon0 -

I like the idea. LR's are definitely a viable place to make the transition from 2* to 3*; I got most of my classic magneto covers there. How would you be certain that participants stuck strictly to 2* rosters though?
I'll certainly volunteer.0 -
We'd have to go with the honor system. I suspect cheating won't be a big deal since the prize isn't overwhelming; anyone who's hardcore enough to want to cheat almost certainly is already in an alliance and so doesn't need the prize.0

I've been doing some thinking and I had some questions for everyone.
First, I posted this today -- shouldn't be a surprise to anyone since you're all here but just in case anyone wants a refresher, I codified what our alliance is looking for: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5794#p105110
Second, I got a request from SoloRidge to join our alliance today. Very solid roster and currently sitting at 900 points in the BTI tournament. If we want to continue to leave a spot open for contests, though, we're full. Which brings me to...
I'm going to reach out to the handful of folks who haven't chimed in on this thread to make sure they're still playing. As I said in the post above, I don't intend to kick anyone out as long as they're contributing, even if they're not contributing much, but as I said when I recruited everyone, if someone has quit entirely we don't want to be carrying dead weight.
Another possibility is that we could have a rotation of people who give up their spot temporarily so that we can run contests. For instance, I didn't need a black Hulk in the last tournament (though the 100 hp was nice), so if we value having a 20th person, that's something we could consider (but it would also mean we can't do contests for PvE events since they almost always have a new character that everyone will want).
Finally, I think I want help judging the meme contest. I could just pick my favorite (the hamster Ragnarok picture) but if people want to vote or something I'm cool with that too.0
