  • Nice job on fearless defenders everybody. I finished in the 30s with just shy of 600 points after grindingn a bit this morning due to dropping about 75 points over night. That black hulk will give me my first cover maxed 3*. Now to get him from 103 to 141. Currently tanking the LRs hard and pushing in the ISO-8. Currently in the top 10 in my bracket. Good luck to everyone else.

Double congrats... so um, now that you're um, on the inside track, how about getting our alliance the truth behind the MMR algorithm, PvE scaling and a date for when we can expect devil dino.
  • I have a dilemma and a question.

First, the dilemma: thanks to the Lords of Thunder tournament, I have three Patch covers sitting in my inventory, set to expire in a couple of days. I already have a max-cover Patch at 3/5/5, level 110. I'm thinking about starting a 5/5/3 Patch, as I think that'll be slightly better for PvE and possibly faster for those end-of-tournament pushes (though obviously more dangerous).

Obviously the downside is the opportunity cost, but I'm sitting on 80k iso and not seeing anyone I really want to level up (I know, I know, #firstworldMPQproblems). Does anyone want to talk me out of this plan?

Second, the question: we have another PvE event going on so I'm thinking of having another contest giveaway. Is having one for every PvE event too frequent? What kind of a contest should it be? I'm thinking MPQ memes, for example:

  • I'm a fan of the 5/3/5 Patch personally. My patch is only lvl 95 so I haven't seen the true strength of his red. That said, I've always liked his strike tiles despite their self destructive nature, so I prefer the 5 green. I also think the 5 yellow is clutch, heal every round is huge. I like to pair him with a player that has an attack that hits all enemies (ie.C Storm, Ares, etc). I build up his green, a complimentary "attack all" move and then unload and usually wipe out everyone. It takes a little time but is super powerful.

With regards to the contest, i didn't know there was a first one. I like contests. I say go for it.
  • I'm not a fan of 5/3/5, because I don't think the heal can overcome the green strike tiles (unlike 3/5/5), and you don't get nearly as strong of a nuke on the red (routinely 5k+ unless someone is buffed, in which case around 3.5k). In general I think area damage is overrated; I've been meaning to write up a post on why I think this is.

In any case, I appreciate the input, but I'm mainly asking someone to talk me out of the plan of building a second Patch at all. icon_e_smile.gif

Congrats on the mod position, Nonce Equitaur 2. As a semi-retired volunteer mod of another video game company's forum, I know it can be a tiring job sometimes (although this seems like a mch more relaxed community that doesn't get nearly as many spambots or really troublesome posters. I'm really glad we all had banhammers and I even got dev toolkit access at some point so I could IP ban the really troublesome cases), but we had a great sense of cameraderie amongst ourselves and the devs. I hope that you have a private mod section and that the devs here are as chatty and generous as the devs at the other company were, we got a lot of early access info and freebies out of helping out, and personally (although I realize this was in a unique situation) I even got trips to the main office in the US and Gamescom in Germany out of it. Good times.

Also, once again, great job on Fearless Defenders, everyone. For an 'oh, we're not too hardcore' alliance, we do seem to nab a top 20 spot every time, don't we? icon_e_smile.gif
And looks like we're on the right track for the Human Torch as well, with undoubtedly another Steve Rogers to follow. I'm good to go for best there is, as I've been pleased as punch with my now L90 3/5/5 Patch so far, although I must admit that I'll probably stop fielding him if/when Spidey ever gets his nerf.

And big thumbs up for another contest. Anything that adds a little fun and excitement to the community is a good thing, right?

I don't have that... just tools for spotting spam and moving things. Basically, if any player flags a post, that thread gets a flag that easy for moderators to see.

As much as I would love to start creating double roster spots for some of the better heroes, I haven't pulled the trigger because 1) what if the hero gets changed in some way (nerf/improve) and now I have 2 of someone I may not want and 2) with how fast the game is bringing new heroes it's hard to justify the ISO investment, when I'd rather save that ISO for a human torch, gold daken, etc. Never know if the game changes and they become really good.

I'm always up for a contest. Let's see what kind of ideas everyone has for this icon_e_smile.gif
  • I wasn't able to start the ISO-8 tourney until this morning. Waiting for my 12 hour refresh before hitting all the nodes again. Anyone know how long these nodes are live before the level changes? If I remember correctly, this PvE uses the same map but replaces / adds new levels every day or so.

Bing bing bing! We have a winner! I forgot about gold Daken coming next -- I'm virtually certain to want to max him, so saving up my hero points to get covers for him early is something I probably want to do.

Phew, thanks! I'm glad someone talked me out of it -- I have enough doubles on my roster as it is.

I'll probably post the meme contest later today so that we can have a solid five days to get entries, but after that I'm out of ideas for new contests, so would love to get some suggestions.

If the current pattern and historical data are correct, the levels change every 24 hours, so 9am PDT.

Feel free to grind these nodes for the rewards, but remember that since there's just one main bracket, final placement is going to come down to the last and possibly second-to-last set of subs.
  • Thanks Mischief, always on top of it. I will probably grind once through the refreshes to get rewards, but not over do it. I want that super rubberbanding in the last refresh and minimal personal scaling. I don't want the lvl 230 hell i see people complain about.
  • Yep, that's been my plan as well. I'll probably grind a bit harder as the event goes on to make sure I don't slip too far from the top. If I do miss out on the yellow XForce, that's not the end of the world, but I do think that once they redo him he'll be really good, and I'd rather have all the covers I want now instead of having to compete for them once people actually want them.

I was thinking the same thing haha. I think a gold Daken may be great at 141. I remember him being really good on defense, if only for the absurd amount of attack tiles he would create for his team. Only time will tell how human torch will fit into the meta, but both captain and Daken are already proven and Daken seems to me the better of the two.

Also, don't forget in "Unstable ISO-8" PvE you can win a captain at 99,333 and 160k, so grind daily since I think it does change after 24 hrs icon_e_smile.gif

EDIT: it actually says in the event " New missions appear every day!"
  • There's no question in my mind that gold Daken is going to be a mainstay of my roster. The worst-case scenario is that he still only has 2 powers (so maxes at 115), and they don't increase the base values for strike tiles or healing. In which case, the strike tiles still add 63 damage per tile and he still would have 4741 health, healing 237 per turn, good enough to erase all match damage.

63 damage per strike tile doesn't sound like much, but 3 green matches gets you 6 tiles, or +378 damage, which is comparable to L3 Patch green (444 damage). Play them both together and you'll have a team that ramps up on green in a hurry and will be a monster pain on defense (add Hulk for extra hilarity). And that's worst case; the current trend is for gold characters to get a significant numbers bump on at least one of their powers (Thor yellow, Cap red, Cap blue), so if that happens, man, watch out.

Plus, between him and Patch, they'll tank 5 of 6 colors and his strongest color is green so you can even keep Patch out front on 3 colors for Best There Is purposes. I don't really love the concept of gold characters in general, but I can't wait for this one.
  • That's right, I forgot he had 2 colors! So 115 would be his max lv. Even so, he's going to be an annoyance on defense if paired up correctly.

I'm not too big on these "gold" rares either, but by the same token Thor was one of my favorites to play and just had to relevel him again, he's that good (top 5 on my list). I'm a sucker for AoE. C Mag locks it down with spam red, crit connecting blue, all while Thor and BP cascade and build into their game ender AoE punches. Or Patch with BP for over 4k AoE. I can't wait to try new combos with Daken in the mix icon_e_smile.gif
  • I'm not a big fan of Gold characters because we all burnt so much ISO on their 2 star version... but LazyDaken is going to be a beast, even at 2 powers. I feel a 3rd power would just make him ridiculous so they probably won't do it. Too bad you can't transfer iso from a 2 star character into their 3 star counterpart. That would be a nice addition.
  • Way late to the party here, but I don't really think that completing another Patch is going to be possible unless you want to play the Courageous token game or toss Hero Points at covers.

Further, my gut feeling says that 3*** Daken is going to be the "new" Patch. Daken might not pack as much of a punch than Patch does, but I think he will be close. He will simply be a "less risky" version of Patch, that will is balanced by less damage through the 115 2 cover limit.

So... yeah. I'll +1 everyone else in the thread here by agreeing to hold off for Patch.
  • In regard to your question. mischief, maybe once per 9.5 day PvE (major episode)? Otherwise, I think you might run out of ideas way too fast. Another potential issue is if you want to handle all of the admin duties of inviting and kicking people every week.

I like the meme concept, as it is catching on well with the forums. I was quite surprised with the overall quality of the limericks presented in the first contest. I am seeing a lot more GIFs appear on the forums as of late. Perhaps some players are becoming more casual and less formal with their comments or maybe there is some loosening up overall by players with control being given (perceptually at least) to the player mods.
