  • And by SoloRidge, I mean Celerity. icon_e_smile.gif

For people who care about what's going on, FittedKitchens has decided they want to try and compete for #1, so they kicked out a member and opened up for applications. Nonce Equitaur, who was previously in our alliance, applied and was accepted. SoloRidge had previously inquired about joining us, so I reached out to him, and he decided to leave OLYMPUS because there were too many inactive commanders. However, OLYMPUS got in touch with D3 support, who removed the inactive commanders from their alliance, and SoloRidge decided he wanted to try and stick with that team to help build it up.

This left us one person short, so I went recruiting, and saw Celerity was a free agent. I had originally invited him to join us back when we were just a 5-person alliance, so I jumped at the chance to snap him up. And it turns out...he's the guy who left FittedKitchens! So we've basically traded Nonce for Celerity.

Welcome Celerity! May your stay with us be long and full of hero point rewards.

Queue circle of life song from lion king...

Welcome Celerity. We will never be #1, but I don't think anyone on this squad cares. Everyone is pretty awesome, regularly talks strategy and we routinely place in the Top 100 if not Top 50 or better, netting all the new covers. You know Mischief, he started this group, is an awesome guy with lots of good ideas and the same goes for everyone else. Game on.

Due to the fact that almost everyone who participates in our contests doesn't actually need an alliance to join, and that it's getting harder to land in the higher tiers (not to mention that I don't really have time to run a contest right now), I've decided to try and fill our 20th spot permanently. I'm actively recruiting on the forum now, but if you know someone who would be a good fit, let them know we've got one spot open.
  • I'm looking for a guild, and this seems to be exactly what I'm looking for!

I play a little more than casual, but I'm not hardcore. I play everyday, but not all day. I hit top 10 in PVP events occasionally, and sometimes just top 100. Depends on life circumstances and when it ends. I'm generally pretty lucky to hit top 100 in Simulator type events, I just don't seem to have enough play time to get in there most of the time. I'm slowly working on a decent roster. I've got a decent roster going, but I won't list it all off. If you want me to I will, though. My in name game is also BigDisAwesome.

And I can't for the life of me figure out how to PM. lol.

  • Hi! I'm looking for an alliance and your's seems to be what I'm looking for. I usually participate in every event in game and I've been itching to get those alliance prizes icon_e_smile.gif I'm not exactly hardcore player, because sometimes I don't have time to play more than a few games, but there are days that I can grind like a hc player. I can't write a private message yet, because I apparently haven't participated enough to these forums for the obvious reason that I just registered. I actually left a join request in the game, nick in game is "Armoton". No hard feelings if you decide to decline that request icon_e_smile.gif
  • Anyone else having alliance issues in game? It says I'm not in this alliance anymore and it doesn't show up when I attempt to search for it. Something going on?

Looks like server issues still. I see you still in the alliance.

Quick update on where we stand:

    - 17 of 20 surveys are in. I've still yet to hear from Shime, UnknownXuid, and BlindIo, but I know Shime is burnt out and will be taking things very casually for the foreseeable future. When I get all the surveys, or at the end of the week, I'll post with results, but so far it looks like we're mostly happy with how things went, with about half of us wanting to do a little bit better or be a little more consistent.

    - As some of you already know, Der_Lex has decided to join the scAvengers. This is sad not only because he was a valued contributor but also because he helped build the alliance and was a great presence in chat as well, but ultimately he has to do what's right for him. We wish him the best and I will continue to keep in touch with him in case he decides he wants to come back.

    - Stepping up to fill Lex's shoes is our newest member, wickeddream! Welcome.

I've also got a few invites out to folks who scored 12k+ in season 1, so there should be some exciting new additions in the next day or two.

Thanks for the kind words, Mischief. And it's still with a heavy heart that I made this decision, because you're a great bunch if people to hang out with. I'll miss that alliance chat, but that just means I'll have to visit here more often. icon_e_smile.gif

Ihope my leaving didn't cost you guys your Fury reward, by the way. I thought final points were calculated at event end, but apparently it's not until the prizes are sent... If I gad known that, I'd have stuck around a little longer.

Finally, good luck, wickeddream! You've joined an incredibly fun alliance. I'll try and remember to skip you in PvP. icon_mrgreen.gif

Gah! I also thought that final points were calculated at event's end, which is why I've been having everyone stick around until rewards were distributed. Whatever the mechanism, we did get the Fury cover, though, so all is well. Hope you got one too!

Also welcome to our newest member, Deimos12! Deimos replaces Shime, who's been with us from the very beginning (when we just a 5 person alliance!), but has been playing minimally lately due to burnout. When he was active, Shime was capable of putting up 1000 points on a regular basis and we're excited to get someone that we think has the potential to fill those shoes.

We still have a couple more recruits in the pipeline -- will announce more once things are settled.

A third hearty welcome to our newest member, delita007!

Delita comes to us from a small 5-person alliance but we're hoping for big things! His (her?) track record speaks for itself: over 12k points in season 1 and a very solid 21k points in Prodigal Sun, with several 100+ characters on a rapidly improving roster. He'll be replacing UnknownXuid, another of our original members, who will be moving on to another alliance; we thank UnknownXuid for his contributions and wish him luck with his new crew.

Wow, a #12 finish! I think that might be our best ever. Great work everyone, especially to those of you who landed top 10 finishes for that coveted Daken cover!

I think I might be the only person who still reads this thread, but just in case anyone gets their news here instead of from alliance chat:

    - We've picked up two more members, JayN and farLOL. Welcome guys!

    - Of course, whenever we add new members, we're also losing members. As many of you know, drmrm420 is going on his honeymoon and won't be able to play much if at all for most of season 2, and has graciously notified us of his status. We wish him a great trip and look forward to welcoming him back for season 3! We've also parted ways with BlindIo, who's been too busy with work to play as much as he feels he should to support our alliance, and will be moving on to another alliance.

This brings us back up to 20 with a roster I'm really excited about! We're up from #90 to #29 in Prodigal Sun and maintaining our strong position in Season 1. Looking forward to a bunch of top 50 finishes with all of you soon!

    Update on PvE event strategy:

This last sub event has no rubber banding, and lasts the entirety of the remaining event. There are a TON of points available, 2852 for playing every node just once (so 3x that if you grind them down to 1). There's time to play 5 refreshes, so there's potentially 2852*3*5 = 42780 points possible, which means that purple Daken cover is very much in reach.

Keep in mind that this means that there's a lot of time to make up or lose ground in the main event. If you see your placement start to drop, you probably want to consider starting the subevent so that you don't fall too far behind. I'm planning on starting in about 8 hours and hitting 4 refreshes to make sure I get the purple Daken, playing 1 clear per refresh. If my placement falls, I'll grind a bit more per refresh.

Also note that because there's no rubber banding, there's no advantage to starting late, only disadvantage. Get your points before community scaling kicks in!

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the strategy.

My nodes are high level already - do you think it's better to do a single clear during the first 4 refreshes and then grind the fifth to ensure personal scaling doesn't have too much of an effect, or to try to grind them now before community scaling kicks up even more? I think having beatable nodes throughout trumps driving up the scaling, but not sure whether personal scaling or community scaling would drive up the levels quicker.

I have pretty limited experience with how to play high level nodes since I typically do not grind much (in past PvEs I relied on rubberbanding and timing) and I'm usually careful about making sure I take significant damage in each match to keep my scaling low, but if it were me, my plan would be similar to the first one -- play a single clear during the first 4 refreshes and then grind the 5th as necessary, but also keep an eye on my placement and community scaling, and grind more if I'm falling behind or if levels look like they're getting out of control.

During those first few refreshes I would also make sure I'm taking damage to keep my scaling low. Two strategies that work well for me in terms of balancing the "make it hard enough so that I take significant damage" and "don't make it so hard/boring that I want to poke my eyes out" are:

    - Use Patch and two low health guys who you wouldn't use otherwise and cover other tiles (2* Captain America is often my go-to for blue). Fire off green and then purposely match tiles with the low level guy so that he gets whacked for a bunch of damage while Patch heals.
    - Use three guys who do ok damage but don't heal. For low level nodes, IM35/Venom/Juggernaut works great (if I get lucky with cascades, I can always use Headbutt to hurt myself). For higher level nodes, Ares is awesome since he does damage to himself, paired with Thor plus someone like Cap who can soak damage on blue matches.

Lyrian is a outstanding resource for how to keep your levels low -- he always outscores me on PvE events while having lower levels than I do.
