I keep rereading his powers, looking for the nugget that we have all missed, but sadly I can't find anything positive to say about him.
I can think of one positive thing to say about him: he is making my decision to pull for Kang very easyI want to give props to the devs though. It is a unique kit and took some creativity to come up with and courage to make him so complicated. They can't all be home runs, but I enjoy the diversity.
This isn't a home run at all. Or even a double. Or a bloop single. It's a wild pitch at best.

Big thanks to Sourcream and trenchdigger for the maths!!
Thats the sweet collab the forum needs to get back to!If High Evolutionary doesn’t boost lower tier ability damage then he is stoney baloney. Like Katt said: His powers are death.
-No not death: deaf! One hit of these descriptions and you deaf! I can’t hear tinykitty! Seriously made my ears ring re-rereading.
Hit hit hit cough bro you know what would be sweet? Hit cough cough if like 3* players had a 5* character that makes them better!
Wooa bro gurgle-gurgle cough duuude imagine how sweet their match damage will be!!
Hey bro do you ever look at your belly and think about swarm tiles?0 -
Someone should tell to their ambitious character designer that right now they have problems to run the simplest character without bugs.
So something less astounding would work better.0 -
I really do like the idea of a boost character like him, so it is a shame that the numbers aren't very impressive. Maybe they could one day do something a bit more simple like "brings X's lowest level teammate to X's current level (up to 550)." Then there would be reason to level X for those in 5 land, but the character could also be used to make 4s more useful.

To be fair it was always going to be about evolving things which meant some sort of change to others. That's what he does. Clue in the name. But...I do wonder if this design has the definitely not going to be him new Boss Event in mind. These powers sort of sound like they will work in a Boss environment? I dunno. I still don't know how he works. Why couldn't we have had a 5* Raccoon or Space Dog?

If you run him with 2 4* then shouldn't the boost be 0 since he is the highest level character (assumes he's champed at 450 and not unleveled at 255) on both teams?

@dianetics
I have tried this, and the boost to his teammates is still the same formula ie. difference in level/295 * 140% (for 5 yellow)
eg. I brought a bottom lvl 70 4* with my lvl 300 Evo, and boost to their health was 230/295 = 78% (*50% for 1 cover yellow * base health) = 39%
I was facing puzzle gauntlet opponents at approx lvl 200, so Evo was the highest.1 -
And also, if Evo is in the middle,
eg. highest enemy 550, Evo 450, teammates lower level than Evo
then all 3 of your team get boosted:
Evo by difference between highest and Evo / 295
Team mates by difference between Evo and teammates /295Sounds great, but in practice boosts are too low. If only the 295 was 100 instead he could have been really interesting (but still not meta).

Does any of this stuff change when High Evolutionary gets the +100 level boost? Or are you guys testing him with that boost? (I read back but I can't tell for sure).

So there literally no reason to use Evo at all.
Even as a transitioner you are better off using a synergy team instead of boosting 2 great 4s.The boost per level is far too low, if they were my initial guesses it could have been acceptable at some level.
His only real use is his blue now giving ap per match or power fired. I would rather take Abigail.
boosted Abigail Brand is pretty solid actually. She's great an denying ap to the enemy.

@EB
I assume if Evo was boosted to say 600 and highest opponent was 672, then Evo would get 72/295 *140% boost, but can't say this for sure yet.
And if teammates were at 450 then they would get 150/295 *140% boost (but again can't say for sure yet).So like most 5*, he could be useful in a boost week depending on which other 5*s were also boosted that week.

The wording is exciting and makes it sound like he will shake things up and make opponents weaker while boosting your underleveled characters, but it sounds like in reality he does mostly nothing. Maybe that’s why these descriptions are so confusing, to help sales.

@dianetics
You are absolutely right. I looked back at @SourCream's streams and with Evo at 550 and opponents at 570, Evo receives no boost.
I had assumed the up to 550 was only used to justify the denominator of 295, but seems it is also used to calculate the numerator as well.
That does match the description, but they have been so flaky recently, you never know.I have to say, that this means he is also of no use during his boost week either. I was starting to waver about whether to pull for him, and this is the final nail in his coffin.

Hahaha, so that 550 number in his powerset is hardcoded? Oof. I thought it might scale if he's boosted. His black power is percentage based, so it presumably also doesn't scale with the boost...
Not lookin' good for ol' Evolutionary here

Yeah, hard pass until his balance pass 🤣

25 shards away from a fully champed kang, looks like I can get back to hoarding for the foreseeable

Sad to agree and we have a solid contestant to Bugged Awards 2023.
He could be the first character who needs a complete rework before his release.
Add him to the long queue of tasks to do in the game, devs.0 -
There's a fantastic general point to be made here.
Percentage-based abilities in MPQ, that don't scale with level, are either horrifically bad or way, way too good, with very little middle ground. They should stop making them altogether.

Normalized abilities are a thing in arpgs with no legs. If you don’t feel getiing more powerful the hampster Wheel has no power.Oh you nailed it, that's exactly it! I didn't think about why those abilities are bad (or sometimes, too good). It's because MPQ is all about the hamster wheel! The whole point of this game is levelling up your guys, and fixed-percentage abilities make that pointless.

It's getting harder and harder to get excited for any new characters these days, at least for me. The only puzzle in this game trying to figure out these complex characters getting churned out left and right.
Complex wouldn't be too bad if the abilities worked and the character was actually good. With some of these characters just seems like a big waste of everyone's time, developers and players. Releasing complex characters that either aren't fun, weak sauce, or bugged. Then players having to decipher what level of trash we got from release to release and see these dud characters clog up the latest legend store for months.
