If the enemy triggers the power at 6 cost but then recovers 3 due to a cascade, does the UI use the gained AP to offset the cost and therefore show the power's cost as reduced?
Yes, this is probably what you're seeing.

I figured, but "probably" is a conditional statement.

If it's possible, it would be nice if the devs could split things into two distinct cycles (cost and benefit, loss and gain, etc) that would accurately account for the behavior between casting a power and reaping its benefits.

To be a little more clear, I'm certain this is what you're seeing, but I said "probably" because declarative statements I can't prove are something I save for theological debates and questions about whether the AI gets more cascades than the player.

Ragnarok has been vaulted since season 7, longer than any other character. He's the only 3* character to lack a third cover. He will almost certainly get a third power if he's reintroduced at the end of season X.

There are some suggestions and possibilities for third powers here already.

Here's hoping. I personally have been thinking less about what the third power could be and more about choice of color, with Rags always having just two color-strengths to begin with. I'm really hoping he's not just another R/G/Y... an R/G/Blue like She-Hulk would be welcome, though.
  • There's four color choices - Yellow, Black, Blue, Purple

Yellow and Black with Red and Green are both extremely overdone. Hoping those are quickly ruled out.

I don't think anyone is Red/Green/Purple (EDIT: Forgot about GSBW), so that would give him value even if the power is a dud. There aren't many who are Red/Green/Blue, so that would be ok, too.

Rags only has two "strong" (actually medium) colors so he could be a candidate for the first char with two abilities in a single color
  • If he had a double red power...

    red: creates green, decent dmg
red: shakes the board, mild dmg
green: shakes the board, mild dmg

... oh, dat rags, mostorm loki combo... lol. or if any other color was a board shake really...

I have a feeling they're going to get rid of the double-medium tile strength. (Which, by the way, just makes him weaker than other 3*'s, and unable to tank for most characters. He should have double-high tile strength if they're going to go that route.)

They'll probably switch him to Red-Green-Black, given that most of the Dark Avengers characters use black as one of their colors.

While I don't think the game needs yet another Red-Green-Black character for awhile (if at all) (especially so soon after Gamora), I do agree that he should finally get a standard spread of tile-strength distribution for tanking purposes - especially as I assume the buff to 166 will push him over 10k health.

In the Hulk PvE that just finished, I had an enemy Rags node where he was buffed to LvL 166 due to scaling,
and at that Lvl he has the exact same Hit points as Lazy Thor and Sentry do at Lvl 166: 10200

so if he ever does get that 3rd power, he WILL have the same high amount.

    Excellent! Thanks, Gamblor!!
  • For right now, is it even worth to keep him in the roaster? I have him sitting with 1 cover and have a feeling that getting new covers for him would take even longer than other 3 star ones.

That one cover isn't currently, in and of itself, super-important. You could sell it with impunity.

    But.

Ragnarok will probably come back in about five weeks, with a third power. At that point, he'll probably be offered in some PVEs and PVPs like Loki and Doom were when they came back, and probably be an essential at some point. If you think you'll be able to get those covers fine when they are offered, you're probably fine selling him. But you might regret it if the essential is for someone you want and you don't have any, or if the one you sell now is one you need later.

I'm not saying keep the cover (spots aren't cheap); just be aware of this potential downside.

If you're going to keep him in the roaster you need to keep the temperature low and cook him nice and slow. Ragnarok meat can be quite tough!

In all seriousness I would definitley keep him in anticipation for his new power and even just at 2 powers he can be quite usefull in PVE or sent out as a team-up.
  • I just hit day 60, earned my first Ragnarok cover. I can see how this would have been a decent reward a few months ago. Does anyone else think that the daily rewards need to be updated to be relevent to characters not vaulted (atleast during the transitioning stages of play, first 6 months)? Is Ragnarok worth a roster spot at this point?
  • I try not to throw away 3*s if I can avoid it (hence my one covered Beast just sitting there in my roster). Also they have said getting Rags a third color ability is on the horizon. I would keep him if possible. Overall, I actually like the daily rewards being consistent. Getting my GSBW green cover and Mags cover while he was vaulted was something I really looked forward to.
  • Ragnarok is probably going to get a 3rd colour and his 2 existing abilities are actually pretty good PLUS he is a damage sponge who'll be even more spongy when he can be levelled to 166.

Never underestimate the value of a hero who can feed a colour (green in Ragnarok's case) because you only need to find one hero with an awesome power in that colour (hello XForce for one but there are others including 3*s) and you've got a decent combo. Since PvP only requires one good 3* combo for you to essentially be the same as anyone else in 3* land he probably is worth a roster slot.

I have high hopes for Rag's third power. I know, it might not be great, but they did an excellent job with Loki and Doom. But, yes, if it comes down to juggling roster space, he probably isn't the best option if there is no way to keep everyone.
  • I suppose sinced he's being reworked ill give him a spot on the roster. I got a Doc Oc and Colossus cover right before they were vaulted and sold them to make room for Luke Cage and Squirrel Girl. Starting to feel a slight frustration with Marvel Musical Chairs. Thank goodness for the increase in HP from daily rewards!

Ragnarok hurls his hammer into the skies, controlling it with his mind and charging it full of ambient electricity. He catches it and is filled with a surge of power. Converts ??? random Green tiles into Charged tiles and gives Ragnarok a burst of ??? health.

Ragnarok slams his hammer down, releasing a blast wave of power and carving a chunk out of the battlefield. Deals ??? damage to the enemy team, deals ??? damage to his team, and destroys a random column of tiles. Does not generate AP.

Guess who's being released next season...
