  • Another quick question: what criteria do you guys use when clearing nodes? Doing every stack in every node every refresh doesn't seem feasible. Doing all the stacks in some nodes? Some stacks in every node? Just highest points?
At what score do you look at a node and think "Nah, I'm good" and wait for the next refresh?

Many people already complain that PvE events are too long. I can't imagine that extending it would be the better option as opposed to hastening the playing of those who are choosing to exploit rubberbanding.

The difference is that extending the end-date doesn't mess up people in the current sub - and no one can realistically have a plan for tackling the final phase either, since we don't know how it'll run.

So the choice is between screwing over a bunch of people or no-one. Call me insane, but I think the latter is preferable.
  • Just inject some imaginary points into the progress bar, at a rate (e.g. 5k/min or something like that)

Player won't even notice (other than the increased rate of progress). You don't have to change any other thing (like rubberbanding, end time) that will upset people.

Or maybe the devs could log on to the game and grind more! You know, spend their hard earned money on health packs and such. icon_e_smile.gif
  • And to provide some input for future events like this, keep the timer that will definitely end the sub, just make the point limit end the sub early. Would prevent the situation we are seeing now.

We had a version of that for the Brotherhood storyline... progression would open up a one-time "money" mission while the timer would determine when that particular sub closed.

My impression was that this was an experiment to try to address the complaints that a fixed end-time was unfair to people in various time-zones. The big problem was because they didn't estimate the point rate correctly. (In fact they've now failed to do this twice.)

So it may be time to go back to the lab and rethink how they're doing this.

I'm generally going for top 20 in main, not top 2, and don't care about sub finishes much because of nerfed tokens.

I usually get there by playing 2-3 refreshes, taking the top 4-6 highest-value nodes in a sub and hitting them until they're worth less than 200 points

I genuinely do appreciate that they're trying to address that concern, but even in theory I think this is a poor way to do it, since it just means you feel driven to check on the sub progress every couple of hours

    You mean like scaling? icon_e_confused.gif

But in that case, wouldn't people just wait for the timer to run out, instead of trying to fill up that points progression bar? In that case the points would need to have some extra incentive, like a global reward or some such.

And now, unpopular opinion time. It appears to me, they're deliberately trying to make the ending times a bit unpredictable to shake up the whole 'play as little as possible, religiously follow the meta game, last hour rush' mentality. Having a fixed ending timer for the sub would negate that. I think (and hope!) the variable, not wholly predictable ending times are more advantageous for the broad majority of players who just play as much as they can, whenever they can, instead of chaining themselves to fixed times. Maybe it'll make the whole thing a bit less stressful. If people so desperately wanted the sub to end sooner, they would play more and grind more points... looks like for the majority getting to the last nodes is not enough of an incentive.

edit: I generally really like this more community goal oriented, less set in stone approach. In fact I'd grind those nodes down as much as I can to help fill that progression bar - if it were not for the scaling. Get the scaling under control and it'll work nicely, in my opinion.

...or...a community reward if we reach the point limit before the timer. Aside from the Hulk reward for reaching the points, I do not remember another event with a community reward. And I'd have to say, the community loves these rewards.

I may be over-interpreting, but from the comments that IceIX made way back in the beginning of this event, it sounds like they are actively monitoring scaling and tweaking it. This doesn't change the fact that some people are still getting the snot knocked out of them, but I think they are still working on it.

I'd rather like to know they are working on it, with details on what they like to achieve and intend to improve. Some sort of feedback to our feedback, preferably on a regular base. To me, scaling currently still feels like punishment for investing time and money into the game, I get longer, more difficult, way easier to fail fights than before, for the same reward. Not really the carrot I'm looking for.

Yeah, maybe a lot of people don't have godmode patch, but the combination of him being the best there is and not having phantron's favorite blue moves has been keeping the scaling quite manageable
  • This is not a good time to have the comm link disrupted... icon_neutral.gif

Edit: Phew, only a few minutes.

Further edit: It's spotty at best, and keeps dropping the connection to the server. Anyone else having this problem?

Yep, seems to be on their side. And patch getting deployed?
  • Uh, Catch Him Monologuing just dropped from around 180 points to around 45 points for me, without playing the mission. Anybody else seeing this?
  • Yeah, connection keeps dropping here too.
  • Has anyone followed the current rate of progression for the global achievement bar ? I did not pay attention this time ?

When do you expect the sub to end ?
