If you can clear each of the nodes once, then you are hurting yourself for not clearing them twice per pass.
A simple example explains why:
-- Assume that a node with full stacks awards 1000 points on completion.
-- Stack size is 5.
With each stack worth 20% of the node points, the possible points awarded would be 1000 + 800 + 600 + 400 + 200 = 3000.
As numbers, those just look like points. However, if you view these numbers as a percentage of the total points for the node on a full clear, an interesting perspective emerges.
-- First stack, 1000 / 3000 = 33.3% of total points earned, 33.3% of total points for this stack
-- Second stack, 1800 / 3000 = 60.0% of total points earned, 26.7% of total points for this stack
-- Third stack, 2400 / 3000 = 80.0% of total points earned, 20.0% of total points for this stack
-- Fourth stack, 2800 / 3000 = 93.3% of total points earned, 13.3% of total points for this stack
-- Fifth stack, 3000 / 3000 = 100.0% of total points earned, 6.7% of total points for this stack
A direct average would state that 100% / 5 = 20% of total points should be earned for each stack, but as shown above this is not the case in a diminishing returns scheme. The first and second stacks on a pin are advantageous to clear, as they payout more than the expected average of 20% per clear.
Note that the third clear is **exactly** on par with the expected average in terms of percentage of points earned for the stack. Under the right conditions, a fair argument could be presented for a third stack clear of high value pins. Although there is no inherit bonus to clearing this stack, the diminishing returns scheme awards 80% of the total points for the node for only 3 clears, instead of 4 under a straight average. Whether or not a third stack clear is "worth it" is debatable in terms of the unknown PvE MMR creep, but on high value nodes the risk could be justifiable in terms of points awarded.
In any event, barring health pack restrictions, only clearing a node once per refresh and not twice is shooting yourself in the foot.0 -
You make a good point but that isn't taking scaling into account at all. Those extra clears could send your mmr through the roof. It's kind of a catch 22.0

I don't know why people are even worried about scaling when you can't reliably clear enough missions to drive up the scaling in the first place. Waiting until the end to clear stuff is just asking community scaling to slap you silly. Patch is not as powerful as he looks because you have no way to mitigate the drawback of Berserker Rage in this event, and simply having regen doesn't help much against Ares/Juggernaut.0

So... Do 'em twice if possible. Okay. I'll try to remember that.0

Thank you, devs.
kthxbai.
Ditto I finished mine about 40 minutes after your's which is very tight if we gain points at the speed we did on saturday, but as it was a weekend and we going a little slower this sub I think we will be fine, unless the Devs move the goal posts again!0 -
Mizake wrote:If they are going to use community points as a stopping point instead of hard start/stop times (like 9 am/pm PST in the past), then they need to do it for all rounds for it to make sense. It's too hard to try and determine how long each sub is going to last to come up with an overall deadline like 7 days for the entire arc of an event.
The most logical solution is not to change anything further at this point; let the sub close at 400 million points, then open up the final main event with no time limit, but also with a point limit. 200 million, 400 million, whatever.
That would make the event consistent along it's entire continuum.
This, having a fixed end time in the main with community-based approximate end times in subs is obviously risky at best. While I like the fact that they try something to address the suboptimal end times issue, in this case the main ending time should have remained open too instead of a fixed timer. That way they shouldn't have had to screw the first subs points and instead could've compensated in the second subs points since they really don't want to give those progression awards anymore.
Might have been fun chaos, and most importantly, equal for everyone to try to guess when the main event ends. Or not I don't know anymore. On other hand having a fixed timer on everything gives at least a little predictability in an otherwise very unpredictable game0 -
Look how tight this is

Besides, with how silly big his boost is, TBTI can actually be viable. Right now he takes 4/6 colors for me, with IM40 taking the blues, storm taking blacks, or mags taking purple. And IM40 can feed him reds to cast it fairly well too
Now that I think about it...the church of patch has been oddly quiet this event....0 -

Horrible waste of red imo. much better off saving that for storm's red after a berserker. 3 uses likely means around the same damage minimum, plus ap.generation and possibly WAAAY more damage off cascades...along.with the ability to select multiple opponents to attack.
You really need to have enemies above 200 to have any real trouble with boosted patch (and I am.talking about a base 60 One too...). As long as the lvl is low enough for him to tank match damage, berserker +cascade is too damn deadly. Of course, mine is 5/3/5...you miss a lot.of that damage if you are only running a 3/5/5 (which I personally don't get as tbti is almost never the best option available sans 2 ko-ed teammates)0 -
anyone know about how long until the next refresh? in 3rd right now, and I'm guessing the next refresh is gonna end this sub so I don't want to be too late to keep in top 5.0

They've already stated that they'll lower the 400m if it's not reached within their desired timeframe.
Thing is: nobody knows when that is, and we're apparently not getting an advance warning 12+ hours beforehand, so we're not able to time this short of throwing darts.0 -
12 hours after you last cleared0

Doesn't the refresh depend on you and your own playing times (i.e. 12 hours after you cleared a node), or have I missed something?
In this tracking thread (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7139&start=40) Sumilea estimated that the sub might last about 16 hours more, although that was 3 hours ago, the rate has slowed down a bit, at the current rate it might be as long as 18 h more. That would make sense tbh. Leaves 24h for the remaining nodes in the main event.0 -

For me it's more about not having 5g than having 5r. With 3g you can actually use it early without being reliant on infinite turn abuse. Oneshotting lvl 200 jugs is just a bonus.0 -

I use both of them depending on R availability, it's really cool to 1-shot jugs with 9k+. But if all your strike tiles are intact indeed mistress does similar amount. Strom really rocks.0 -

These hours are always the lowest in the 24h period. The last 2.5 hours, 24 hours ago we did 8M points. the last 2.5 hours today we did 11.9M so we going faster than yesterday so my prediction of quicker than the 19 hours to gain the points for yesterdays rate still holds.0 -
seanarmstrong wrote:didn't know that, guess I should pay attention to when the last refresh was only node I have over 100 points is overwatch and I can't beat that one without boosts
You find my table of values quite a few pages back but even with NO rubber band scaling Overwatch will get to 220 at max stacks0 -
currently 15th overall number 1 in the sub event, beating overwatch is stupidly hard buffed bullseye is not fun.0

Is there anyone else besides me and possibly Lyrian who isn't touching the sub anymore to wait for the main? :S I'm feeling lonely. Maybe I should touch the sub in the final hour frenzy, but overscaled DAs are no funsies.0
