Since I don't have a maxed team, I'm just using Juggernaut to headbutt everybody to death and it's working extremely well, if you allow for the fact I"m playing a match about every three hours.

That is why you go swing by the Venom chapter in the prologue mission, pick a match with a guest Spidey if you lack your own, and casually heal before going back in and pounding the snot out of M. Storm, Iron Man, and then Black Widow in that order.

I see that the brackets are growing quite slowly. I should have no trouble making a late night push and shielding for a guaranteed top 15.
  • lol I see someone in my bracket shielded at 240.
  • I still think that I like the juggs, im, storm team for defense. Storm can be swapped for black widow but honestly, if she is the only squishy them she is dying first. Far more likely storm gets lucky and messes you up than bw gets 9 blue. Bw will annoy you, storm will actually kill you. If I see two 100-1600 hp opponents on a team I am much more likely to fight them. Venom can be swapped out for juggernaut for the sole purpose of his purple, but personally? I am much more annoyed with juggernaut as an enemy. 6 ap for 1100 damage is better than anybody else.can say. Seeing how the machine prioritizes red so much you get hit by one at least 1-3 times a match vs him unless you get a good board. To me, that is much more annoying than venom's stun.

Still, its all about points. If they are low lvl I will fight. If they are high and worth high points I will see if they are worth fighting yet and will probably keep them qued. If they are high and mid points I will probably skip. 2 squishies + tank doesn't count. I will feast on storm/bw/im type combos all day if they are even with me in points.
  • Hee hee, a guy snuck past me and shielded at 388. He paid actual HP to do that with 29 hours left.

I never bothered leveling IM and BW past 33. I have the ISO to top them off, but I just cannot bring myself to do it.

As much as I would like the Psylock covers I just can't invest. My IM is 17, Mstorm 12, Widow at 7 and Juggs at 4.
  • Ah hah ha, I passed him and he unshielded, earned 10 more points, and then spent more actual HP to Shield again. Maw ha ha.

I guess these games really do make money.
  • ROFL, that's pretty sad.

But, yeah... these games do make that kind of money.

I've pushed my way into the top 15 in my bracket completely unscathed in one push and still going. Looks like only the top 5 placement will actually require any real effort and/or shielding.

I don't really think that more than a handful of people in each bracket are willing to endure the 25-30 matches + retaliations without a healer to reach 500 points to be a serious contender in this one.

I wonder if this is how tourneys will be in the future once Spidey's power is diminished?

How leveled is your team? I think another factor is that people don't want to commit to leveling 1* characters.

My team is my original Prologue crew, minus Hawkeye (as he had to go because of early-game roster issues). So, I am running 50 IM35 + 50 MStorm + 40 MWidow in this one. Never really the luck to pull the 1* villain covers as I was going through the Prologue (or had roster space for them).

So, yes, I would say in that regard I would be advantaged... except that everyone in creation that didn't throw away their 1* crew can reasonably be close in power, so no one can really pull away from the pack.

The nod here is that the recent change to the scoring system allows players to reach 500 relatively harmlessly.

From my experiences in the recent tourneys (you can test this out with a retreat),

If your rating is less than 300, you are protected from 75% of rating losses.
If your rating is 300 - 399, you are protected from 50% of rating losses.
If your rating is 400 - 499, you are protected from 25% of rating losses.
Past 500, you are fair game.

Thus, brute forcing to 500 is easily possible (400 for sure) in this, and every tourney. Yet, as of this moment, 400 is about 10th place in my bracket. I'm sitting comfortably below the 500 line right now with one other person in top 5, watching the top 2 current desperately and futilely try to break away from the pack (won't happen, there's no 141s or Patch to chase away the zombie horde here). Although, I think that if a person could somehow sprint to 600 and toss a 24h shield at this point, they are probably golden unless a lot more people start becoming interested in the tourney and reach 500+.

I brute forced my way to the 490s, and I was still finding tons of teams with half leveled rosters in the 400s with relatively few skips, as losing points is very hard to achieve in this tournament (at least south of 500 points).

I do that all the time usually; I just don't feel like it for this tournament. I'm usually just doing this pvp when I want to take a break from the pve.
  • this morning i did not expect my point increased by 30+ point due to 3 retaliation that fail... guess my AI get a good board or the opponent just sux badly... guess my line up jug/ironman/storm or black widow really work so well xD

Maybe players trying to tank for the next PvP? This event requires more health packs since the 1*'s can't heal during a fight and are not very effective with board control or stopping the opponent from using powers by stun or AP steal. Unless you go through the labor of healing in the prologue missions you're going to have to burn through heals or wait hours in between matches. I could see people competitive in the other events deciding to tank this one. If tanking still is effective that is.

You can't tank by losing a match anymore. Doesn't mean someone not in the know isn't trying it though I guess. My guess is just a loss. Modern storm can turn a lucky board in the jungle into a win pretty easily. Heck, if they got thier tank lord fast they might just retreat, counted as a loss, to save health packs. Worth it ic you only have % and are willing to prologue heal.
  • Won't lie, I climbed to 600+ in the wee hours of the morning just to throw 300 HP at a 24 hour shield. I really want those Psylocke covers, and given everyone is almost on equal footing in this tournament, it's comparable to trying to land 30 kills in an FPS without anyone noticing. Hopefully I'll get top 5, as I already know that the last few hours of this tournament will be a veritable bed of cannibalistic piranhas, gnashing and chomping at one another for any measly scrap of meat they can get, keeping everyone low and vicious.

Its a good plan. I want a couple covers as well but I do not want to invest the ISO into the lowbies, they are all 3x, never needed to get them higher back in the day. Also do not want to spend a large amount of coin on them. End result is hopefully I get one...Will 3 hour shield for that if necessary but I assume I will get mangled in the last few hours.
  • I'm shielded at #2 for 24hrs. Dug my way up to 659pts.
#1 is at 806 currently, unshielded, but he got +200pts in the last 2hrs, so he'll probably go even higher.
    them it's 658, 611, 556, 536 all shielded. Hopefully I'll end in top5, but top15 is also fine.

using boosts (+AP) in this tournament is OP.

EDIT: During the night I lost about 66pts (no shield), then in the morning when I was playing, no one attacked me. Now when I'm shielded I already shielded 5-6attacks (revenge probably).

EDIT2: #1 is 761, so must've lost to someone. guy named Budie7i is going up, currently at #5 with 590.
  • In my second week playing I started selling all my 1* to make space to 2* and 3*, and found myself with just a lvl 30 storm, 17 venom and 1 IM35 (luckily at least at max covers/best builds)
Now, after some regretful ISO infusion, my team still looks too yummy, no one is maxed. I can run circles around the AI on attack and win relatively fast, but on defense I aways lose, so I HAVE to shield to get my sexy ninja 3 covers. icon_neutral.gif
About 95% of the players I see are at maxed level, but at least it's 50 and not 230 this time icon_rolleyes.gif

But this format actually feels good, fun and fair, I hope it runs more often. Next time it won't find me naked icon_lol.gif

I see what the devs did here: as there is usually a big and nasty veteran player base seeded in the top spots of every event, lately a lot was built towards letting newcomers enjoy the game and actually have chances, like scaling and this. This tourney is just perfect for the purpose, and the dreaded scaling will be very good once it is fixed - hopefully sooner than later.

The way I see it, it should be as regular as Lightning Rounds. Really fun to participate and even tourney.

I think so too. In the event I have burnt a lot of boosts/health pack got myself up to second spot and shielded - probably be only good for top 15. Waiting for the
health packs to regen in case of an unlucky cascade in my final run at ISO-8 which happened one too many times this morning (Got Ares to 18HPs then we one shot my patch for example:()
  • I guess I'm the odd man out then with regards to this tournament. I'm not fond of the lack of variation, there's 5 viable characters to use, and most people didn't level up Juggs or Venom, so it's almost entirely IM35/Widow/Storm... and boring. Every fight is rush to 5 red, nuke board, reap in cascades, try to get 10 green, and either you've gotten off Thorned Rose (assuming Jungle) by then and gone bananas, or you're doing a retaliation on another node and just trying to kill their Storm before things go stupid. Then stun, slam down Widow with Iron Man's abilities, and stunlock IM35 while you gather up enough AP again (which isn't hard given Storm) for the finishing touch.

I just like the variation of other tournaments, people mixing this hero with that for a surprisingly strong deterrent. I feel like we all have buttons to kill each other in this tournament, and the question is who and when.
