On Galactus run 1 (Game feel vs Ultron)

"The saddest thing is that, this only does a great disservice to your own work. During this last year you have designed some really cool and fun characters: X-force, Mystique, Grocket, Thora, Cage, Kamala, IF, Professor X, SW, HB, Ant-man, Thing, Jean, Iceman, etc. All of them good and fun to play with and all of them pretty much useless and unable to shine because the endgame in boss fight demands to win in two turns or less.
We are supposed to lose. Fine, but why are we supposed to lose in three turns? Give Galactus 1,000,000 health and a strong ap drain and a moderate damage-dealing passives. Give the players at least the chance to put together a team and die fighting. I would rather die after a ten minute match than the travesty we currently have at less than one minute. There is no gameplay to enjoy. "

To be fair, that ninja node with Gorgon is way easier than it seems, if you know how to play wave nodes.0

for captain marvel essential, a gorgon 395 wo arrives after 6 or 8 teisatsu and who begins with 30 red ap ???? seriously ?
So far I've wiped three times on Galactus and once on that node. Thankfully, I'm in the class of people this event seems geared to: people with a ton of useful maxed characters. Boosted Jean Grey and Switch made 395 Gorgon a joke. Wipe all the ninjas and blow up all their tiles with 5000+ damage AoE and then 5 cover black stun Gorgon.
But there are many people in my alliance who don't have a Jean Grey at all, let alone a second Jean Grey with a different cover configuration. They don't have a max covered Marvel either.
You made this too difficult for the majority of the users and not that tough for the rest. That isn't good design.0 -

so we are suppose to lose, so every Galactus node opening, then we should lose 5 times per 3 character cause we used the best team we have. that is 15 health packs. -10 were supposed to let regenerate. that is still a deficit of 5 health packs were supposed to buy. and using boosts just to be able to use a power maybe once. and somehow still be able to play pvp even though we are letting health packs recharge; more we have to buy to compete. so how is this even not supposedly not a hero point grab? like "True Healing" wasn't supposedly not a money grab. yeah i'm a guy who won't let "true healing" die.
then give us unlimited health packs and boosts during anniversary, if we are suppose to lose to Galactus and still be able to play other aspect of the game.
but i guess this is not a money grab.

True, I wasn't just referring to this node though. Probably tough to take down Galactus in the later rounds without an X/5/X Wolverine or a 5/X/X PX. You have to really be able to cheese the damage quick or get into a true infinite combo.
I think the only reason I wiped on that node the first time was because I had no idea what to expect. I didn't know Gorgon was waiting at the end... I didn't even know it was going to be 8 TTS ninjas. Only way to know what to expect in a survival node is to play it once.0 -
In all reality none of our b!tching is going to do ish until the powers that be get back to the office on Monday...both Anthony and ice made it a point to drop a post and bounce without any reply to anything, so I guess that "we are prepared and have extra staff available for issues" went out the window at 5pm or whatever...30+ hours and this is the best excuse u guys could come up with? Wow, just wow....0

Didnt they specifically say theyd have more than a full staff for this event which I would imagine includes the weekend
Who ever said they all go home for the weekends anyway? Online games don't stop because its saturday.
What I do know, is wherever they are, they ARE reading this and CHOOSING not to comment.0 -
seems the Event is intended for the 'elite' as mentioned, the rest of us hit a brick wall very quickly and it's not fun anymore.
And the line about 'easy minion fights', how is a level 375 Gorgon in the 2nd wave easy? I guess that goes back to my first comment about being geared toward the elite......0 -

no one is at office or watching servers during the weekend. if something happens, they might send someone to turn it off and on, but not fix anything till the work week. that is what i think.0 -

IceIX wrote:That break means that you have plenty of times for Galactus drained Packs to refresh while you can go in and get some Black Vortex in.
Took your advice Ice, and got some Black Vortex in. Some of the time my wins didn't get me any points and, as usual, got hit for -200 as I approached 950. Since I was running on empty from "Galactus drained Packs" syndrome and since Galactus wasn't paying out HP like last Anniversary, I couldn't keep fighting and I couldn't shield up. I ended up knocked all the way back to 480.
(I know this isn't exactly breaking news, but it still sucks when it happens.)
Galactus is easily the biggest outrage, and rightly so. But don't act like Black Vortex is any kind of cure. It's just a different type of frustration. But maybe I have a basic disconnect with how the game is supposed to feel while playing it.0 -

This should be a solid idea. The ISO for these fights is so good that I have remained unshielded thus far for the duration of this event. Oh...but wait...at least half of the fights I engage in give me NOTHING. No points, no reward, zip. I just go back to the event screen with the exact same three nodes that I started with. Oh...but wait...with the health reduced on the characters that I just fought with.
Yes, that is a lot of sarcasm and nonsense that I just typed out. I'm not really that upset about it, it just makes such little sense.
THE ONLY TWO EVENTS RUNNING RIGHT NOW ARE BOTH A DISASTER.0 -
IceIX wrote:Hey all,
Wanted to share a few things about how Galactus works and what we're expecting versus what we're seeing.
To start, it seems like a lot of people are on a basic disconnect here, looking at the boss battle similar to how Ultron ran in terms of how things work.
It rather seems to me you devs are on a basic disconnect here, on what constitutes anniversary, celebration, entertainment, even basic fun.
You said it would be like Ultron. Ultron was a fun puzzle of bomb management with a minimum of 8 turns.
Galactus is neither fun or a puzzle. And his CD are bugged, popping a turn early. This means a match takes a minimum of 3 turns and a maximum of 3 turns.
Losing 3 characters per attempt is not fun. 6 attempts total per node refresh means 18 healthpacks. How in the world are we supposed to play Black Vortex without healthpacks?
The tone of your post was also downright insulting. You guys are in dire need of media training. When a disaster happens, you need to run crisis control, not insult your income source.0 -
Adding my thought to the mix which will probably get quickly buried and never read but oh well.
I'm all for challenging events. I like Ultron. I love the Gauntlet. Contrary to the general consensus, I even enjoy Heroics (although that's mostly because I'm an old-timer with a well-established roster but I understand why people with smaller rosters hate them). I like having to form specialised strategies based on limited resource which is challenging.
The problem with Galactus, however, is the fact that he can completely defeat you without you being able to do anything. In round 6 onwards, he spawns enough CD tiles in the first round that, if activated, simply wipes you out in one go. If you start with a bad board, you are pretty much screwed because even with full AP boosts, you can't even make enough matches or use any abilities to slow down/destroy the CD tiles. It's the equivalent of starting the game and rolling a die, and if you get a certain number, it's instant loss. That's not challenging or fun, it's just a slot machine.
The matches need to be redesigned so that you have a shot of beating him even with a bad board. It should make us think hard, not just seeing the beginning board and know that you're dead.0 -

After the events is well under way. Thanks. If only we knew ahead of time this was a blindfolded haunted house. Yeah, the reveal on those is always the best part.IceIX wrote:... it seems like a lot of people are on a basic disconnect ...
Rather interesting that you used the term "disconnect" (a break in a previously existing connection) rather than misconnected (just plain not connected).
Yes, "disconnect". Bait and switch does tend to have that effect.IceIX wrote:Ultron ... higher end Alliances would chew through the entire Event in about 12 hours and let it kinda sit for 3 days.
BWAHAHAHA. Hmmm. Finish Ultron 1 and 3 with some time remaining yes, finish it in 12hrs no. Look, bub, when your aim is to present yourself as an authority laying down the factual info ... take care with pesky concrete facts and avoid exaggerations. It calls everything else you troll out into question.
Later in the thread, you tell a player that a character description reads something it doesn't. This is easily verified information. Verify it before responding. Your credibility is gone.IceIX wrote:Galactus is different. The "minion" fights against the villains are relatively simple. They're there as minor hazards but relatively easily winnable.
For the first 24hrs ... and then they aren't. Are you aware of the version of this event that went live? Maybe that explains the disparity between your statements and the live event; you are referring to a production version, and while you went to NYCC, the devs pushed out a cranked up version you never tested?IceIX wrote:Galactus on the other hand is a massive threat. He's not going to be stopped by gnats ... So he gets bored and swats them away. In game terms, this means that players are going to be beaten ... You're supposed to lose.
Players are gnats to be swatted and beaten. Losers. I'll be sure to pass that along to my casual alliance, they are still playing this for fun. If only they knew who they were playing for and what was thought of them.
... far enough, it doesn't get better.
This Galactus design is a slot machine pull. Puzzle Quest was never a slot machine.
Your team ramrods multiple changes designed to slow matches down ... and then drops this hot pile of instadeath on the playerbase?
In addition to factchecking yourself, get an editor. One who bring some capacity for empathy to the table. You're here to persuade and (presumably) reassure. Could have used a content and tone check, might have salvaged your effort.
Successful communication requires a transmission and a reception. In this post, you focused solely on the transmission, not at all on how it, and the Galactus event, would be received. Having to telling people what they're supposed to be thinking, supposed to be hearing is a sign of a failure to communicate.0 -
I just decided to give it another go after staying away for most of the day. I cleared out the Hood/Kingpin/Doom node and Galactus didn't unlock. I finished the Captain Marvel node with the level 395 teisatsu and Galactus didn't unlock. Awesome. It keeps getting better and better.0
-
What's so insulting about your original post Ice, is that you think you are actually giving players obtainable rewards. Sure there are good rewards at the top of the mountain but they are out of reach for most.
Half of my alliance has rage quit this event and I don't blame them. It's frustrating, boring, mindless and lazy in its design. I want my alliance to play together because it's fun, not because it's fear factor and they have to eat a cow's tinykitty soaked in tinkykitty if they want to win the $50,000 prize.
It's hard enough encouraging people to play in your alliance when there are good, obtainable rewards in fun events to focus on but I'm not a politician or spin doctor (and apparently you aren't either judging by your tactless post) and why should I ask my alliance to waste their time playing 6-bullet Russian roulette? What's worse is because we are locked into our alliance for the duration of the event those who still slog onward will not be able to reach ANY of the cyclops rewards. To add insult to injury, we get garbage progression rewards along the way.
And you're not even sorry about it! You defend your disaster and try to convince us that this quagmire is fun?! You have a lot of nerve.
I encourage everyone who is unhappy with the state of the game to go to the App Store and rate the game accordingly. I'm on my way there now to post an honest review and give it 1 star. Maybe you'll listen to all of us if we all start posting there - you are clearly not listening to players posting in the forums.0
