    Actually, this event ends at a really convenient time for me - Saturday afternoon - so I should be able to spend some time tonight and tomorrow clawing back.

    Honestly right now the ranking doesn't matter. I went to the toilet and by the time I was done I was #1. icon_e_smile.gif There is over a day left, so I can say, wait until there is 24hrs and then shield, but obviously you aren't going to win #1 right now with that strat. I refuse to spend a ton in shields since I haven't made any HP back. I will rather spend the HP i have on rare covers, rather than pray I get them by chance. I have blown at least 1 rare cover worth in the last 24hrs and for maybe a return of 150 or so.

    What bothers me is I can work super hard for 24 and 5 hours straight, but that last hour determines everything. A good enough player could probably go from nothing to top 10 in the last 8 hours, no problem.

    This event ends in 1 day and 5 hours. Today is Thursday, currently 6:10 pm on the east coast. This event ends Friday at midnight for me. I'm now in third at 555, I am still shielded and letting the rest of the top ten get knocked around.

    Oh man, too funny. Had an alert before saying my team had fought off an attack, 35 free points, don't mind if I do. Checked the guy's roster and it was so much better than mine (I'm running 87 Patch, 85 OBW, 65 Hulk.)

    10 minutes later, get another alert saying he beat me, same'ish level Patch, 100+ Hulk, 100+ Spidey. Obviously couldn't stand the shame! icon_e_biggrin.gif

    Bah, in the same bracket as RangoFett. I guess its fine since I only need to place in top 45 for this tourney.

    This is amusing, both Phantron and Nemek are in my bracket and top 10 atm. This is the first time I see forum goers in my bracket, I believe. Oh well, I only strive to place top 45 really.

    I got lured by the seed teams in the tournament and couldn't pass up beating them down. Only going for top 45 anyway because I only need one more cover for Spiderman. Probably going to stick with my usual strategy of hitting top 5 and then hope can stay in top 45 without a shield.

    look that's MEEEEEEEEE lol i honestly cant believe my luck the past week. from getting nowhere in the last 2 months and getting no new covers, in the past week alone i finished in the top 5 for the daredevil tourny, finished top 10 in the soul destroying horrible heroic mode, finished in the top 25 in all the lightning rounds yesterday and got covers for Hulk,OBW,Spidey,Daredevil and Classic Storm and now this in the Wolvie tourny. and my team is not the best either so i dont know why all the luck this week lol to make matters better i dont shield and the four attacks against me i gained points. Hope this luck continues until tomorrow cause i want those spidey covers icon_e_smile.gif

    I was going to retaliate against your retaliation before but thought I'd leave it icon_e_wink.gif

    Whilst I'm talking about retaliating; does anyone else hate the way you can be attacked but the retaliation notice will be for a different Wolvie, so you can't actually retaliate with the team that was attacked? Doesn't seem like it should work like that!

    Just by doing my retaliations from overnight (11 am here) and on only one node at that (only have Ast. Wolverine) and not even all of them (I don't bother for less than 15 points usually) I placed higher than yesterday, currently snugging 7th place. Oh well it won't last icon_e_biggrin.gif

    Someone said that you should simply leave those where they are and they could turn up at your node later. Definitely happened to me once or twice; I also don't have to fight Ast. Wolverine the whole time when retaliating, sometimes there are Patches or X-Force Wolverines on enemy team.

    Retaliations will fill up the board one on each node. Then you have a backlog. If you only do the retals on the node you fight on, the backlog will flow into your node. So in essence the first 2 retals are fodder but its an easy price to pay for consistency.

    Well its getting late so im away to bed (goodnight all) currently sitting pretty at number 1 in my bracket with 701 points, 140 ahead of second. dont use shields so its gonna be fun when i wake in a few hours.... what are the chances of been knocked down about 150 points? very high...please please dont attack me random people.

    The playing prior to the last day is more like setting you up for a good position. You can think of all outstanding retaliation as points you 'owe' people, and likewise when someone attacks you they 'owe' you points. Starting with a high point going into the first day ensures more people owe you points when you need to collect at the end as opposed to the other way around. After all, retaliation is likely your easiest way to find people with a ton of points.

    yay, just topped my bracket as well....too bad it won't last, especially since I'll be off for the last 6h of the tournament...

    Does anybody have any ideas what could be done to make the tournaments more fun/competitive outside of the last 12h or so? I mean, at the moment there's little to no incentive to even start before that, just grind yourself up in the last few hours, shield and be done with it.

    It would be nice if there were some added incentive to start early like rewards for placements (you get something if you stay in the top 10 for 6h or something like that)?

    If you are on top, you must be in a relatively non- competitive MMR range.

    Because when I go above 500, I have retaliation every 5 minutes. Lol.

    Ive tanked 4 LR, I guess that won't work now, you just need luck to have no one retaliate against you.

    Try attacking those with higher rating than yours. Or similar rating. Also to place anywhere close to top 5 you have to use shields, alas.
