Hey All

Miles from Demiurge here to let you know about some new character updates that are coming soon to Marvel Puzzle Quest.

Invisible Woman (Classic) - Coming 4/17/15
Invisible Woman is our 2nd oldest 4-Star character and has been waiting patiently for an update for a long time. When we originally designed her, we were balancing for a version of the game with longer, more difficult matches. In that version of the game, powerful, high-cost powers have more use and damage prevention is more powerful. When re-evaluating her abilities, we had a big focus on utility. Her two unique powers got a lot cheaper, allowing players to use them much more frequently. She should be locking tiles and making people invisible all the time, not occasionally at the end of the match.

Elektra (Unkillable) - Coming 4/17/15
Elektra is a very unique character in MPQ. She plays very differently from other characters in that she is capable of dealing huge amounts of damage but only indirectly. She’s also the only character in the game who can stop any amount of damage. We wanted to update Elektra, but maintain her unique playstyle, and we found we were able to make her more powerful without being unbalanced.

Wolverine (X-Force) - Coming 4/17/15
X-Force was our first 4-star character. He’s been through a few incarnations, some too weak and some too powerful. We’ve realized that we’d made him too powerful compared to other characters, especially the AP generation and cascade potential of his most recent Black and Green abilities. We’ve re-designed him to bring those abilities into line. The damage of Surgical Strike and Recovery had room to grow, so we’ve increased that as part of this rework.

Beast (Classic) - Coming 4/17/15
We think we captured the essence of Beast as a character, but he wasn’t very useful, and players didn’t feel there was a strong reason to bring him to a fight over other characters. Considering that the bulk of Beast’s power banks on the presence of Blue special tiles, we made his Blue more reliable. The original design made it too easy to match away the special tiles it created, but this re-design solves that problem. We also increased the strength of his other two powers.

Doctor Octopus (Otto Octavius) - Coming 4/17/15
Doctor Octopus is an interesting take on a utility character. He manipulates the game board and reacts to actions instead of directly damaging other characters. He has a huge breadth of ability effects, but there are a lot of times when only a few of those effects are useful. She-Hulk (Modern) - Coming 4/17/15
She-Hulk also has a wide variety of powers. Her Blue power was overly complex, and useful only in very specific situations, and the power to give her team a burst of health doesn’t really fit into her comic book persona. We’ve updated both her Green and Blue abilities with the goal of making them simpler and more useful.

Character Health Update - Coming 4/17/15
As you may have noticed, many of the characters listed above have received updates to the amount of health they have. They are just the tip of the iceberg! Most characters are going to be receiving a health upgrade. Characters with less health are getting the biggest increase, while characters with a relatively high amount of health aren’t changing at all. Here’s a list of all the characters that are going to be affected.

Lower-health characters trade health for stronger powers, but the health penalty they were paying was too large compared to how much stronger their powers were getting. This update lowers the health penalty they pay.

Iso-8 Leveling Costs Update - Coming in R75

Finally, we’re making some changes in level-up costs for 3-Star and 4-Star characters. In order to help players get their 3-Star and 4-Star characters into a useful state more quickly, we’re making it cheaper to level them up at lower levels. We don’t have final numbers at the moment, so stay tuned.

This change will not change the levels of any existing characters, but they will immediately become cheaper to level up.

EDIT - The total amount needed to level up 3-star and 4-star characters is decreasing. This will not change the current level of the character, but the cost to level up will be less than or equal to what it was before.

TL:DR - Invisible Woman, Elektra, Wolverine X-Force, Beast, Doctor Octopus, She-Hulk and Health updates coming 4/17/15. Iso-8 Leveling costs update coming in R75.

As part of these changes, we’ll be offering increased sell prices on the 6 characters listed above. Invisible Woman, Elektra and Wolverine X-Force will have double the normal Hero Point increased sell prices.

Other characters with increased sell prices (Iron Fist, Magneto (Marvel NOW!), Mystique, Thor (Goddess of Thunder), Ragnarok) will be returned to their normal sell price when these changes take effect.

  • Wow... You didn't just change Xforce, you disemboweled him.

Just accept this message as a refund request for the HP I put into getting him covered, which should be 7500HP or so.

So looking at this, still need to evaluate the abilities, but this format does not look good. Suggest editing it so new abilities are up top grouped together with current below it. Will edit this post when I go back over it.
  • Can we get some clarification on Surgical Strike? The standard naming convention is that if an ability does not say 'does not generate AP' then it generates AP so does that mean the new version still generates AP? That's a rather key difference.

These xforce changes were exactly as I was told. I'm done with this game. Thanks for the hours of entertainment devs!

I have no comment on the nerfs or buffs.

I would just say that the developers need to understand, they're not making or changing characters in a vacuum. Players are invested in them-effort, time, money, emotionally. Once they put a character out, it's not just theirs any more. They should compromise at times, do what they need to to fix the character, but make sure players are still going to be happy with that character. In other words, like m hawkeye and c mags, not like rags or xforce.

Be realistic everyone, the Xforce nerf is justified. One character shouldn't be the best tool for every job, and that's what he was.

Haven't had time to read through and evaluate but thank you, thank you, thank you for telling us.
  • This entire thing looks like a clusterscrew.

The best character in the game got neutered, some unplayable characters are now marginally playable, and virtually every character got a massive HP increase.

This doesn't even go into the level changes in ISO costs, which damn well BETTER compensate those of us who have been working to put ISO into characters only to have the total cost sliced.

Seriously, are yall TRYING to find ways to piss off the veteran players who have been here for 400+ days?

Yeah, it's really really tough to get a sense of what's substantively changed, especially given the sheer length of the list. But I can say that the X-Force changes go to the point where he becomes a board-shaking specialist with really really unreliable damage, which is not earning a spot at the top of my rotation.

(FWIW, I'd balance XF by upping the cost on his green to bring it in line with the move's utility, and converting SS to an AP drain up to 10 rather than gaining AP from destroyed tiles, so if they have no green AP you get no green AP)

Wow what a load of ****
  • I just noticed that The Hood is not getting a HP increase. Not that he needs to be made more powerful, but is he really supposed to 66% of the HP of the second lowest HP character in same tier (Storm)? Iron Fist is now on the lowest HP tier, which is fine because he's only the strongest 3* in the game so now there's at least a risk and now he won't be beating people with only his passive.

Force Bubble Crush is basically the new X Force at least in terms of damage/functionality (well, it'd do about 3K more) and a considerably higher price tag (12g + 7blue).

So X-Force is neutered, but hey, at least She-Hulk is playable now! That'll make the vets happy right? (just in case its not obvious, SARCASM guys, I'm using SARCASM) (seriously though, new she-hulk looks pretty neat)

Hood doesn't need a HP increase because the only reliable way to take him out quickly just got his balls removed

Is the rate of healing outside of a match increasing too, or just the max Hit Points for most of the characters?
  • Gonna get the popcorn. This is gonna be good.

Joking aside, the season where I had a decent sized roster and was going to start playing with shield hoping, they added timers. This season, I started putting in work to XF and he's been nerfed.

Once again, a day late and a dollar short.

There is no reason to play this game other than to kill time.

Anything you work for is a complete illusion that can and will vanish at any second. Have fun on that next 50+ hour PVE grind LOL.

Not a single $0.01 will be put into this game going forward. icon_e_wink.gif Props on the health increases though!

Everyone's going to be talking about the X-Force nerf, but the health changes confuse me a bit.

    For example:
    Colossus - Old: 10,200 - New: 10,710
    Cyclops 3* - Old: 7,650 - New: 9,265

One is a tank, the other a damage dealer. One will never be used again by anyone.

I'm reading that as the amount of iso to take a level 40 to 166 stays the same and that they're changing it so that the lower levels are cheaper and making the higher levels more expensive.

And unlike a lot of people, I level a lot of my 3s to a certain level of usability and leave them there until they are changed or become worth the cost.

If the cost for taking 3 star characters from 40 to 90 is significantly lowered, then I just got bent over for actually having a diverse roster.
