Just to clear some things up...

-- Carol Danvers got her power from Mar-Vell after she was injured in an explosion. Long story.

-- She became Ms. Marvel, because there was already a Captain Marvel.

    -- Mar-Vell died circa 1982.

-- Ms. Marvel continued to be Ms. Marvel, and her costume got skimpier and skimpier. (That's the 2* Ms. M)

-- Upon feeling a sense of empowerment (i.e. when Kelly Sue DeConnick took over writing), Carol took on both the Captain Marvel title and a significantly less sex-kittenish outfit. (That's the 3* Captain M.)

-- Kamala Khan is an Inhuman whose power is shapeshifting/healing. She discovered her power after the Jersey City Terrigen incident when a classmate of hers got in trouble, and she instictively shapeshifted into her favorite superhero -- Carol Danvers -- to save her. But... she shapeshifted into the Ms. Marvel version of Carol, not the Captain version. She was spotted by a news photographer, and -- given that Carol was already established as Captain Marvel -- the headlines asked "Is Ms. Marvel back?" Kamala wound up embracing the Ms. Marvel title.

So it's perfectly possible for there to be a 3* version of Ms. alongside a 3* version of Captain, because -- at least in the current Marvel universe -- they're treated as separate and distinct heroes, even though Carol has been both.

[edit] tl;dr: read Ben's comment above.

Thanks a lot for the information! That def sounds like it could be her. I was going for Rogue because turul said "loosely" for shapeshifter. Also I could see the healing since she steals powers and life force.

So the 2* isn't a reverse lazy ala Human Torch?

Cause if it is, I'd go with Cyclops (Classic), blue uniform/yellow visor.

With the release of Professor Xavier and his 'invisibility' power I'm really eager to see an IW rework.
But with the releases of the Shapeshifter, the Villain, the Sharpshooter already on the list together with the Ragnarok's rework I suppose I'll have wait a bit longer icon_rolleyes.gif
Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited to see all this new characters but it's a bit sad to see IW on the shelves when I know she could awesome! ...or should I say fantastic? icon_e_wink.gif

Professor X has set a new bar for Invisibility. 7 AP for self-invisibility. Xavier has to enter the minds of his opponents and create a psychic block.

Sue should be even better at Invisibility. It's essentially effortless for her to become invisible. At the very least, I would expect that she gets passive Invisibility - when she takes more than X damage, creates an invisibility tile which targets her. That would then need to get some interesting upgrades per rank to encourage people to cover that skill.

You're right, Sue should actually be even better in the 'invisibility' stuff! icon_e_biggrin.gif
What makes me optimistic is the fact that the devs introduced an invisibility power for Xavier tend to prove that they are currently working on the true Invisible one!
  • I'm even more skeptical on Sue being "fantastic" after the rework. They took someone on par with Xforce and 4hor and made him a little worse than Fury. I'm not going to hold my breath for her anymore since it appears to be another few months at least before they fix her.
  • Though she doesn't really match with any of the hints, until Xavier was officially announced I thought the Inhuman named Naja might make an appearance.
  • Could sharpshooter be a hint along the lines of *knife thrower*? Not necessarily a accurate firearms type but an thrown weapons specialist? Personally I'd love for this to mean Marrow

I'm wondering if this expected 2* is being designed to fill some gaps in the 2* tier?

There's not a lot of special tile generation in the 2* tier. Torch is the only attack tile generator, Daken and Wolverine are the strike tile generators and they overlap on red strikes, Cap and Bullseye create Protect tiles and neither of them are highly prized.

I think a different Strike/Attack tile generator could fit the "sharpshooter" archetype.

The 2* tier is actually pretty well stable in terms of colour variation. I wouldn't mind seeing some more variation on Yellow, since it's mostly expensive big hitters. Perhaps something to make use of collected Team Up AP, like a 2* version of Panther's Battleplan that creates attack tiles?
  • I keep coming back to Archangel, who is literally a sharp shooter, but him being a 2* doesn't feel right. But then neither does Juggs being a 1*, so who knows.

To a point, 1* Juggernaut is just a dumb bully. He's the 1980s X-Men cartoon Juggernaut. He wasn't a deep character. He just took dmg and walked through stuff. Remove his helmet, and he was immediately vulnerable. I still think he should have a lot more HPs as a 1*. 5000 HPs sounds closer, in 1* terms.

I'm not saying the helmet vulnerability bit changed, but certainly writing and story helps grow juggernaut, in terms of strength and ability. I think the greater issue is that hit points isn't a definition of durability so much as it is a definition of how hard it is to take character x down. No Professor X couldn't take a adamantium strike from a 1980s Wolverine. But he has enough psychic defenses and abilities that he could mitigate or stop such an attack, hence the 9700 HPs.

Look, I get the whole thing about hit points being abstract, and ultimately game balance is arbitrary. I wrote a small novel on the subject in general when talk of the new hit point tier was going on. But even in the '80s cartoon it took a whole squad of X-Men to take down the Juggernaut. That's a super team against one dude, and he was winning for most of it. That doesn't scream 1* to me. The fact that he's dumb a basically a one note character is sort of besides the point.

Anyway, none of this has anything to do with our fun little new character guessing game. More cryptic hints to obsess over, please! icon_e_smile.gif

NONE of the characters in that episode did anything fascinating save for Cyclops who created a trench, and Juggernaut, who crushed a brick wall with his hands. They did an especially bad job with Logan, whose claws were better suited for barbecuing sausages rather than slicing anything.

It struck me as a lot of 1* chars vs Juggs, who we concede is at the top of the 1* heap.

Yes. Back to cryptic clues. More talks about bald guys, please. Maybe a villain?

It would be hilarious if this turns out to be Gambit. I mean, he won the most requested character, right? Why not make him easily accessible for EVERYONE? icon_lol.gif
I was hoping for Gambit as a sharpshooter, but I will be much disappointed if he is only 2*.

    That cartoon premiered in 1992.

Also its hardly fair to sum up an entire character from one 21 minute cartoon made for kids age ~7-12.

    Edit: I stand corrected icon_eek.gif

The more I think about this, the more I feel that The Gunslinger was on to something. New players are a big revenue source and Gambit is an obvious fan-fave, so why not make him far more accessible to new players?

Clearly Sharpshooter is a combo character, like Rocket/Groot, of Dazzler/Longshot. She sings sharps (and flats and other notes), he shoots. ;-p
