This makes a good case that it's Jeff the land shark
Could this just be a clever April Fool's joke and character teaser rolled into one?

I hope the 3* is the small cute Jeff the Land Shark. And the 5* is somehow modelled in this fashion

The fact that everyone comes into every new character thread and immediately checks if it's the new meta counter that we all need SHOULD tell the devs all they need to know about how broken Chasm is. I have a level 500+ Chasm, so it's not like I'm not benefitting from the brokenness myself. But i respect that people are tired of it, and im tired of having to use the same two cgaracters all the time (unless there happens to be a worthy boost list on any given wrek).
Dianetics has repeatedly pointed out that there's a super duper easy peasy fix--passively punish or disallow unlimited revives. It's so simple. Oh wait, I forgot... we only do ridiculously over complicated characters now which rely on algebraic formulas and certain numbers of character-specific combo points that you better memorize to be able to do [thing].
Ice can say what he wants about this "not being sold as a Chasm counter", especially since if that WAS the designers' goal (as almost every 5* release low-key has been), they've widely missed the mark again. No one needs a 5* Grocket counter, and Brolaris is already easily countered by a variety of 4 and 5* teams.

The whole thing could've been avoided if that ability didn't have void tiles in the description.
That one inclusion warps the discussion about this character from "fine, if limited in use," to "bad attempt at a Chasm counter."

Yes, but I'd guess the first question asked if it were omitted would be "does it destroy void and web tiles?"...

Honestly this shark doesn't have any other appeal than to be another chasm counter wannabe. His toolkit is totally niche.
Then the sad addition to better sell him is his "awesome" counter, for someone picking him in pvp.
I'd say chasm is already a serious issue to the game for to sell bad counters on discount as a premium character design, but well to each is own.0 -
I still want to see the non-placeholder, numbers-included description of this character before I dismiss them. I really don't think they're that bad.

I dislike PvP entirely, myself. Battling against the meta teams have always exhausted me, and Chasm hasn't made that any better. I could go on and on about what I think doesn't work there, but here's the true facts: the last several characters have really wide and complex power kits so that they AREN'T just a Chasm counter. What I see is that the Dev's know that Chasm is an issue, and they are trying to get a VARIETY of solutions to him. Have any one of the releases been a perfect counter? No, and I don't think they are meant to be.
So consider the range of Chasm counters we have so far. None of them are perfect counters to everything Chasm does, but there are now several ways you can choose to handle him. No, none of them are as powerful as him, and yes he's still definitely the Meta-Man, but fact is the variety of ways to handle him makes for a more interesting game.
Besides, is skipping through a few options for PvP really that bad a deal? When I play PvP at CL 7 or 8, I see champed 5*'s I can't beat all the time. But, I do have the chance to flex around what characters I use, and modify my approach to the team I'm trying to take down. I rarely if ever use the same team twice in a row in PvP because I'm usually changing my strategy to the opponents.
I acutally ENJOY the variety of options against them. Biggest feedback I'm hearing is that none of these characters have a true counter to Chasm as the AI has a hard time utilizing these complex power kits against him successfully. So, your defense team isn't amazing? Well, honestly, not every team is good at defense and that should be a good thing. If every character was a beast in the AI's hands, then PvP would be even LESS interesting. Fact is the PvP play is geared towards the active player already, and Chasm is one of the few characters that dominate at defense.
If I were to get specific about problems with any of this, the released characters are too broad band to handle Chasm specifically, but I honestly don't see that being an issue. If they released a character that did everything necessary to stop Chasm, then we'd only ever use that character against him, and that hurts the variety. This character is actually a rather versitile answer to several team mechanics, not just Chasm.
I can appreciate the way the dev's are trying to answer Chasm, actually. Its through partial powers, I get it, but again if any one character was too close to a counter to him, then we'd never see anything else. I'm happy to see the Chasm Meta being handled with a variety of characters, and this one will be interesting to see against teams that DON'T have Chasm on them.
Like this character VS 5Magneto? Interesting dynamic that I'd like to see.

Correcting a common misconception (again): the clearance level you choose for PvP has no effect on which opponents you see. It only decides what rewards you get at the end. You should always choose the highest CL you have access to.
Why does Chasm get to be special? Why does he deserve special consideration that no other character gets? Is he, like, the final boss fight of PvP? Is he 6*? Is he harder to get than every other character? We have characters that hard counter other characters, why should this character be immune from that?

I love how any new character immediately makes people cry about Chasm or not being good enough to counter him.Just nerf Chasm so we can get back to crying about other things lol
I like your way of thinking.

I didn't know that about the Clearance Level, good to know. I'm curious, eb, what hard counters are you thinking of? I'm trying to think of a specific example and am missing the mark.

Hey dev team I have 2 ideas for countering Chasm:
1) create a character that stuns the entire enemy team for 5 rounds whenever an enemy tries to stun. Than we can sit there for five days seeing a loop of stun / anti-stun action.
2) just nerf Chasm.

What Entrail said regarding SCL. You can play SC1 and you will still see 5* if that is your MMR. If you are seeing 5* - PLAY THE HIGHEST SCL AVAILABLE!!!!

There are quite a few hard counters in the game. 5* Scarlet Witch against Immortal Hulk (without Chasm) is one -- it's almost impossible to beat her with a Hulk team. Electro also does this pretty well.
Some other fun ones: 5* Kitty vs anybody who makes one tile every turn (Ronan, Iron Fist, 3* SW). Killmonger vs America Chavez, Shang-Chi, or Karnak. There are probably a bunch more I'll remember, or others will fill in.

If BCS's strategy is to create a chasm-like character and then the next 6+ releases
are counters to it, then they are doing a good job, if not a great job.Imo this is leaves a sour taste in my mouth. And my strategy would be to wait out for the next chasm-like character.
Also the problem now is not, there are no counters to chasm. It is to change player's away from using chasm ihulk which is a very difficult thing to do. Because the counters right now are just not a strong enough deterrent. Imo the best deterrent has been having 10+ boosted 5*, like they did for Valentine's week and women's month.

Chasm vs every other character (lol). But seriously Chasm vs BRB and Rocket, essentially anyone who does something at start of battle is hard countered by the beginning stun and it doesn’t happen after that. Also Chasm vs any character who needs even a reasonable amount of AP to be effective.
Not that he needed one, but 5* Electra hard counter’s Knull’s one strike at a time passive.
Kraven and Dazzler were both hard counters to Rocket, but not good enough because Kitty outpaced Kraven and Dazzler couldn’t tank a match or survive a hit. God Emperor Doom was another attempt to hard counter the then-dominant Kitty/Rocket meta, but not super well because he had to die to do it.
Eddie Brock Venom hard counters BRB’s protect meta even though he is older, but since he is a 4* he lacks survivability to do anything with it. Black Suit Spider-Man similarly sidestepped the strike meta, but vintage fives were hard to chase in those days when that would have mattered.

Oh good call, BSS completely neuters the Kitty/Rocket team, forgot about that one!
There are tons of softer counters in the game too, but I was thinking of the sort of character who works on defense -- the team in question can't beat them, or at least has extreme difficulty doing so.
