So does this (changing costs and abilities) happen often in this game? I ask because changing the abilities of a 5/5/3 character that does what you want, into something else that can be hugely inefficient for you sounds... lame? If the characters could level to 5/5/5 then there wouldn't be a difference, but the 13/15 changes all that. I think the decent thing to do after a significant change to a character, would be to allow players to break him down to his elements (covers and ISO) and let them decide how they want to go from there. If not, then it sounds like an elaborate trap. "Let's give obviously OP (and cheap) character abilities, let the players create a build and then cancel that and force them to start from scratch."
I don't mean to sound hostile, and since I am a new player I have no Ragnarok covers to complain about, but I just leveled Wolfie to 5 green and now I hear there won't be abilities that cost 5 or less. It makes sense, but I wonder what took them so long to figure out what was obvious to me from the first time I saw a fully powered Ragnarok. Wolfie may still be great after any changes to his abilities, but since I threw all ISO to him lately, I wonder if it's worth the risk leveling any character above 3/3/3, or maybe wait until the game is out of the testing phase.0 -
I have to chime in that I feel very sad the way game developers are dealing with OP character. Simply put, every time there's someone OP in any game, the developers manages to overnerf them to become **** tier. Even Icefrog, the master of balance, has been known to overnerf a few heroes in his days. Yes his red now does more damage, but comparatively to other red skills it's bad. What I would have liked:
-increase red AP from 2 -> 4 (nerf)
-add a 3rd ability (buff)
So you get an AP nerf for red to 4 AP, which is quite significant because you need two triplet matches to use it once, and can't chain it infinitely. But it doesn't completely destroy his red. Furthermore, you give him a buff in form of a new ability to compensate.
There is a specific reason why I prefer nerfing red slightly and adding an average 3rd ability over nerfing red majorly and adding an amazing 3rd ability. Because there is no respec in this game, if later on the devs give us an amazing 3rd ability to compensate for red becoming **** tier, then you can't respec your 5/5/0 Ragnarok. So please, tone back the red nerf and give us something extra for him.0 -
I bought his covers to max him out with real money. I still kept the receipt. Now end up having the wrong/not-as-described-earlier "product". Breached of product trust devs?0

how? you invested money in something that 95% of the player base knew was overpowered and was sure to be changed but still did it. best you can do is go file a ticket and see if they will give you a refund on what you purchased.0 -
You purchased Hero Coins with real money, not the Ragnarok covers. How you spend the HC is your choice, but you got the promised product of $ to HC. I know it feels dirty, but you got what you paid for. That being said, they aren't ignoring you, they're still figuring out how to remedy this situation, given it's a pretty tense thing. Just give them some time and see how they sort it out.0

hero points is a currency in this game. those covers are products.0

First off I want to say thanks for taking the time to clearly explain the thought process and goals with the upcoming Thor and Wolverine changes. I think the changes are all pretty fair and balanced and seeing how you decided upon where you'd like them to end up really seems to make a big difference in how this community receives the changes.
At this point it surely won't have the same value but I still think it would be great to see a similar kind of write-up on the changes to Ragnarok. Now that we know there is a planned (sometime in the far future) third ability his changes already make a little more sense but, still as things stand it looks like Thor will continue to be stronger after his changes.
Really, I just like understanding where the developers are coming from when they make changes and it's cool to get a little peak behind the scenes.0 -

He is, yeah. Saw a dev/mod mention this in another thread.
Think it makes sense if he's meant to be a three star alternative to Thor.0 -
So with the change on slowing the meta down....6 AP for skills isn't bad at all. You can fire it off alot faster and while it wasn't as amazing...it isn't as awful. Now if his green generated AP we would really be in business
Long story...I'm using Rags and using Rags, C. Storm and O. Widow....it hasn't been bad.0 -
If his green had any sort of advantage, I might play him. But for a skill that costs that much and does that little damage, it's a waste of AP. It was a waste of AP before the nerf. His red is the only reason people used him. And now his red isn't terrible, but it doesn't do anything special. It certainly doesn't make up for his green and his poor matching damage. I'm glad he works for you, but with Thor's new yellow and red, he's the better choice.0

Power idea for Rag's third color.
Ragnarok can be unpredictable. If one does not exist, a 4 turn countdown timer is created that will have unpredictable effects when triggered, with a 85% chance of being injurious to Ragnarok's team.
Level Upgrades
-
Level 2: The effects are 65% unhelpful.
Level 3: The effects are 50% good and 50% bad.
Level 4: The effects are 65% helpful.
Level 5: The effects are 85% beneficial.
There could be 50 or so effects that could be triggered, and the list of effects could change at the whim of the programmers, likely based on whatever is easy or already existing.0 -
Does anyone use Rags anymore outside of LR and buffed situations? As a tank? A green battery? Just curious, I rarely see him.0
-
I had a max level 115 Rag from the olden days and he is still my highest leveled cover...he's a decent green mana battery and with some luck his green can destroy countdown tiles or cause cascades. but mostly he's a tank for red and green color.0

Thunderclap is essentially lazythor's colorshifted thunder strike, so Rags definitely has its uses as a green battery. Godlike power is for the most part completely useless, but it does have fringe playability now for clearing human torch's black ability. I think he has some use on a team that is trying to spam green abilities and lacks a good red, like with lazyThor or GSBW if you have someone else covering the other colors. I don't get why people think he's bag-tier: while he's obviously not the greatest, at least he has one good skill whereas bagman has none.0
-
He use to be amazing. he was an engine all by himself as both skills would feed each other very cheaply. now...he's mostly a meat shield. he use to convert 5 to green and now its only 4. In LR rounds though he is a beast. absolute beast. but that's about it these days sadly. a third skill would round him off nicely but probably not anytime soon.0

I don't think anyone literally thinks Rags is as bad as Yelena or Bagman (heck, in the most recent rankings he's rated higher than two other 3* chars and both 4* chars, as well as most 2*s), but I just cannot think of any team where I would pick rags over some other option else unless it's something like Dark Avengers where the roster almost forces you into it.0 -
I'm certainly getting some miles out of my maxed Rags this weekend for the Dark Avengers tourney.0

If Ragnarok's Green was changed to have the ability to gain AP, would this massively change his condition? Would it be too much? Too little?
Assume no other changes. I'm not someone who had a high-level Ragnarok so my opinion is sort of irrelevant. My assumption is that people like mStorm's battery, and this would essentially be both a cheaper version and not as random (as you can see what colors you get, but the colors themselves would be 'random' but able to be manipulated)
Purely hypothetical of course, as I doubt the devs are planning to make someone else a potential infinite turn character, as the character balance queue suggests.
