People buy slots when they need space for a new character. Getting a new hero already feels "impactful," and any slot that doesn't have a hero in it is just wasted spending.

I'm guessing your metrics showed a significant amount of players stopping at 11 or 14 roster slots? Come on, I understand that grouping roster slots is a change that will likely get d3p a little more revenue while having little to no negative impact on the majority of players but don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.
Actually, we're expecting this change to have a minor *negative* affect on revenue. One of the major reasons we made this change is so that players don't get into the mindset that 1.99 purchases are the way to move forward in the game. It works, but it's not at all efficient. We get quite a lot of reports from players that we nickle and dime them early on in the game but feel forced to pay anyway and almost invariably, they are players that spent 20 bucks in 1.99 purchases when 15 in 5s and a bit of saving some HP in the same amount of playtime would have served that player *much* better. There's something psychological about getting into a rut in spending on the same pack over and over because it's familiar. We want to lessen that impact some. At the same time, eliminating the 1.99 purchase altogether not only sends the wrong message (lesser paying players need not apply) but also doesn't account for those users that *do* spend a tiny bit here and there.

So why take AWAY the option to do it the other way? Look, I get it, you guys need revenue. But don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. Don't pretend "oh we're doing this for the user" when the end result is invariably needing to spend MORE MONEY. Maybe if the packs were a better deal... But they aren't. It's just "You now have to pay for roster slots in a way you cannot achieve through F2P means". I'd say this is shafting F2P players for the sake of paying players, but it isn't even that - it's shafting F2P players for the sake of shafting F2P players. It's telling them even more than you already have been "You must pay if you want to get anywhere". That's not good F2P design. I've spent some money on this game for the sake of buying roster slots. I seriously considered spending money on a Daken 10-pack. But this change and the other changes and above all the justifications you guys keep throwing out there have convinced me not to spend any more money on this game until you become less blatantly anti-consumer or least more honest.

This is a stupid joke... 2 star black widow now is much better then 3 star spiderman, this nerf was needed but now the spider is almost useless...
  • Thank you so much for this change. PVP is so much better now that every other team I face doesn't have a stun-locking spiderman in it.

Also, PVE has been much more reasonable.

i bet you are much more happier with all the 141 5black Hulks that are dominating the pvp landscape now. icon_rolleyes.gif

Actually, yes. They're much safer to ignore until last

I'm incredibly relieved that I hit 24 cover slots a little while ago and so this change doesn't apply to me. Part of the appeal of MPQ over other F2P games was that new players could get enough Hero Points for their next slot just by playing the game and progressing in events; if you won a new cover, there was usually enough time to take part in another event which would net you enough HP to buy that needed roster slot before the cover expired. While I was a new player building up my roster, the steady one-by-one progression of roster slots for my rewards was invaluable in keeping my interest in the game.

But then, having typed all this out, I've started to see things from D3's perspective. If new players are hoarding their HP to buy roster slots, they're not buying anything else (like shields, health packs, boosts...) until they either have enough slots to either be competitive and start winning more HP in tournaments, or get bored with the game and move on to something new. By forcing players to spend more HP at one time on roster slots, instead of thinking they can just get by on freebies from the prologue and tournament rewards - they increase the pressure to buy HP with real money. It's cynical, exploitative, but makes perfect business sense.

This is actually true. NO more spider-man everywhere. Instead we have OBW, L. Thor/Ares, Featured... Everywhere!

As far as 141 Hulk is concerned... He drops in 1 turn. At least in the Daken Tourney...

Lazy Thor unleashes Yellow & Green, Daken unleashes his blues... Punisher retribution... Bye bye Hulky and in case, he is not about to die with retribution... Before unleashing Daken... A couple of extra Molotovs to the face!!
