  • Hey guys, Im back! Sorry about the 0s for my scores for a while, I let Favabear know in a PM but I guess I forgot to post here. I was on a 10 day vacation to Japan (since before the update to allow score viewing) and just arrived back home last night. Im still horribly jet lagged, so my sleep time will probably be a bit high in the near future, but my playtime will be ramping up very quickly again and you wont see 0s next to my name ever again!!!

Thanks for being carried during that time, and I will make it up to all of you with some killer scores in the near future!

Welcome back kermit! I hope you enjoyed your trip! Where did you go in Japan? I spent three months in Japan as part of a college program several years ago; mostly in Tokyo with a few trips to Kyoto and some of the surrounding areas. I absolutely loved it there.

We've just welcomed our first new member, HeySid, into the alliance and I feel this is a good time to start forming some official policies about alliance membership. We're now pretty fully into the swing of things, and although we are not a fully competitive alliance, we need to make sure that our members are contributing so we can keep ourselves in the good rewards tiers. Having said that, here are some new policies for the alliance, effective immediately.

New members: In lieu of overly restrictive membership requirements, new members will be on trial status for the first 5 days of membership. All this means is that your performance will be monitored during this time to make sure that you are capable of performing at the level this alliance operates. This is a good time to show us what you've got. If you can keep up with the middle of the pack for the majority of events, then you will be considered a full member. We totally understand that some events can be much harder than others, depending on what characters you have access to, so if you have any concerns at all please let me know and we'll take this into consideration. We're a pretty friendly bunch, and we're definitely not elitist, so all we're really asking for is some effort and proof of contribution. Come hang out with us here or the in game chat and we'll be happy to get to know you and help you out!

Probation: Going forward, members will be expected to output at least a modest contribution to the majority of events. We've been having a little bit of slipping as of late, and that's ok as we haven't had an official policy until now. Events prior to today will not count against you. From now on, if you are absent from several events in a short time period or are giving an exceptionally low performance, you will be on probation status. If you anticipate having a period of low activity coming up, let me know ahead of time and the events you miss will not be counted against you. I will however, reserve the right to put members on probation if their behavior is problematic or if they are absent for an excessive amount of time. Communication is key! Members who are active in chat will be looked at much more leniently than silent ones.

If you are on probation here's what will happen. I will contact you to let you know of your probation status and to ask you if you're having trouble finding time to play or struggling with the events. Please understand that I like you guys a lot, and I want to avoid kicking people, so I'm on your side as much as possible. We'll talk things out and try to make this work for you. If I don't hear back from you and/or your performance remains low for a few events after that, I will unfortunately have to remove you from the alliance. Nobody likes to see this happen, but we can't afford to hold onto members that aren't contributing.

That's enough official stuff for now. If anyone has any questions, feel free to voice them here. You guys have been doing a great job. I've been enjoying chatting with you guys in the new message system and I'm really happy to see where our alliance is right now. Let's all do our part to make sure this alliance stays great!
  • Having a policy seems necessary. And it's nothing outrageous.

K, got it, thanks! I'm going to start culling my list and removing all the people I don't recognize. Trying to whittle it down to people I receive stuff from regularly (so I know they're still active) and Alliance members. That'll take a while to remove 200 people from my Facebook friends... icon_rolleyes.gif

EDIT: Also, how do we look at alliance performance? I'd like to see where I stand from event to event. Make sure I'm not being excessively slackery.

Haha, yup - thats the same places we went. spent a few nights in Kyoto, then went to an Onsen, then the last 4 days in Tokyo. It was incredible, I could see myself living there for sure. Best place I have ever visited, without a doubt.

And yay, Im not in last place anymore! As I said before, still in a wierd timing of things cause of jetlag, but Ill make sure I hop up to at least the 300s before event end.

Honestly, for an event that there was little interest in, we are doing fairly well in it.
  • I had a lot of trouble with that event, between a lack of days and having a single bad cascade pretty much shut me down for the rest of the evening one night with a lack of HP packs. Hence is the issue with having a single character who has a single cover be the required guy for the entire event, and also having a severely limited roster. Never really focused much on Wolvie - Im more of a Thor or Ares kind of guy.

Lackluster alliance rewards -- that was our 5th lazy cap cover (4 blue 1 yellow) earned ... and the 7th one offered through alliances
Lackluster individual rewards -- more of the same, as I had already earned 8 lazy cap covers out of a possible 14 offerings(placemente rewards)
Limited roster -- Unless you had BP or PSY boosted you were pretty much SOL anyway
Crazy scaling -- couldn't even make it through an initial run on day 1.
Unreachable progression rewards -- Did anyone reach the top of any of the 4?

I ran with a 2 cover torch, max wolvie and a recently-pumped-up-for-this-event mHawkeye(level 56 at the end). One loss would basically bench me for the next few hours.

There was alot to not like about this event. So I completely understand.

But we were still able to collectively pull 7000 iso, 300 hp and 2 blue lazy caps. icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • Im surprised at how many lazyCap covers they have given out via alliances lately, but I still have 0 LazyThor covers.

I also wish they would put more focus on older 3*s. Lets have a boosted Punisher event, or Mags, or hell, even Ragnarok (might make him even useful!). Seems like we end up working to get these covers that end up sitting by the wayside, never to be touched again. In another month maybe even Cap wont be seen anymore, in which case, why do I have so much in him? I think the issue is with the number of people they boost - as the number of characters increase, they need to boost more of them in order to not leave some out in the cold all the time.

Same with 2*s. My Daken was my first maxed 2* because he was boosted in an event, but that seems like it was ages ago and I havent seen him boosted since then.

For what it's worth, the next PVP after the human torch event is Punisher.

I agree, I would like to see more rewards for some 3* characters I largely missed the boat on early on, or at least ones we rarely see anymore (BP, Mags, Spiderman, LazyThor vanished shortly after he was released it seems). If they keep releasing new characters, the focus is gonna be on them for a while (get ready to see a bunch of Falcon events coming soon). I would like to see a temporary freeze on new characters while they take time to tweak/balance the roster out. Especially to give the 2 skill guys a third skill. Probably won't happen though.

I missed a bunch of the early ones as well, which is why I don't have the two most broken 3* (Mags and Spidey) leveled. On the other hand, I expect them to get rebalanced, so investing resources into them now would be a waste anyway.

The devs are in an interesting position. They have to keep introducing new characters in order to keep the money coming in, but at the same time, too much dilution is bad for new players, who they have to figure out how to retain. One solution that has been floated before is to separate characters by 'seasons,' which would allow people to specialize to some degree.
  • Ok, I just don't understand the reasoning behind tanking, and I figure I better with his new tourney starting. I know how to do it - go into a fight with your 3 lowest heroes and immediately retreat, rinse and repeat. Do that over and over until your people die.

    But why though?

It lowers your points, which takes you back to easier competition, granted. When that happens though, you overall points drop as well. So you start again on the attack. Wouldn't you basically hit the same glass ceiling as before, that made you want to tank? With as prevalent as it is, I am obviously missing something.

For ~12 wins(less than an hour of battles), you can get the low tier progression rewards(300 level heroic token), then get hit about 20-25.

    Cons:
Drops your event point total during that stretch.

    Pros:
MMR is dropped with not even being on/actively trying to tank. You can double dip by also tanking in (prologue) shield training if need be.
Get a ton of guys queued up for retal when they have higher point totals. The higher their points, the higher the reward for beating them.

Overall, you wouldn't want to tank for an event you want to do really well in. But it is possible(see below). It could negatively affect your alliance. And part of the reason I asked if anyone cared about the covers or not. If noone cared, I probably would not have battled back last night. This is exagerated even further with the new season mode, which will punish you for not performing well in every event. So tanking in PVP events will happen less.

Case in point about battling back post-tank... At the end of Hotshot, I was seeing only level 100+ teams to fight. So I tanked the early part of Army of One(got up to 300 then put in a scrub team). Lost 170 points... but got my MMR down dramatically. If noone cared about the event, I could have left it there, but because others wanted her, I decided I would go ahead and push up the ladder. My first three retal fights were sub 50 one star opponents for nearly 100 points. I climbed to 600 within the hour and still had health packs left over. I paused there, did not shield, and waited til this morning to continue. When I woke up, I had been attacked three times, all by sub 85 teams, and all wins. I finished my push over 700 that netted me the 10th overall position.

In the end, I still had more losses than wins(or it was fairly close if not). Overall, I lowered my MMR and still ended up with a top 10, two cover reward. I could have probably pushed 900 had I not tanked, but that would have only netted me a top 5 finish(ie - negligable difference in rewards) and MMR would still be bad(worse actually).
  • Standard PVP event is 2.5 days(2 days 12 hours) There is 25+ days in this event. Meaning we are going to see around 10 PVP events during the season 1 cycle.

    Notable Progression rewards:
3000 - Hulk black... average of 300 points per event. Mostly everyone should be able to do this.
5000 - Heroic 10 pack ... average of 500 points per event. Definately doable. A little more work involved.

7500(500 iso) and 10000(50 HP) are the only thing higher than the above.
