Simulator Basics part 2: Electric Boogaloo (Mar 21-30)

Maybe a dev can look into the scaling thread and see why people with simlar total points/roster strength have a very wide difference in the starting levels (230 versus 80s for example).0
-
Made the Mistake of trying Hard Mode. Enemy got about 3 Five Matches in a row that started out with one that came in completely from off screen. I'm never doing it again. It's not worth the aggravation.0

Folks with lower leveled rosters are fighting opponents more difficult that I am. And somehow folks with all 141's are fighting trivial opponents. I've just come accept this very second that I will never understand how scaling works.
Because scaling, like MMR, isn't based on your roster. It seems to be based on some alchemy that takes into account some selection of how many matches you've won, how fast you've won them, how much damage you dealt, what your hit points were, etc.
However the scaling is actually determined, since tanking isn't really effective in a PvE, the observed practice for avoiding scaling seems to just be "play as few battles as you possibly can"
Such an odd mechanic for a game, discouraging players from playing it.0 -

And have you noticed a lot of the mechanics seem to do that?
My levels have scaled too high to even have a chance - I can't play (this hasn't happened to me recently, so good, maybe? but some people are still complaining about it)
My stacks haven't refreshed all the way - better not play
It isn't the last day of an event, so I'll just be rubberbanded/retaliated - no point in playing
And even the mechanics discourage you from using them -
If I use a bunch of boosts or health packs, my enemies will just scale until they're too hard again - no point in using/purchasing them
I can either get retaliated for 30 points or spend a bunch of iso on skipping - tinykitty this0 -
If someone from 5DeadlyVenoms can tell ragthor that he's more than welcome to take second pace in our main bracket...

I think they need to add a PvE points component to scaling. Let's say you did all the missions in simulator for 3000 total points (everything down to 1), and then someone later hits a single mission for 3000 points. I suppose it's possible that the first guy is a lot more awesome than the second guy, but they got the same number of points! In the scaling thread we're finding a lot of cases where those two guys are actually equally strong.
I know they don't want to encourage grinding, but right now this is the opposite effect. If you grind, you're actually punished. Right now Spiderman makes this irrelevent but the concept is still backwards.
Actually, they should make PvE scaling only depend on your total PvE points. I mean, isn't that the point of why we're doing these events? More PvE points = doing better on an event, and the harder everything should be? Who cares how you got those PvE points. If you have a million points in Simulator Basic, you must be doing pretty good and should be fighting harder stuff no matter how you got those one million points.0 -
I have not played either of the Simulators yet today. I compiled the opponent levels just for the sake of comparison. This is what I will be subjecting myself to this evening. I’ll be lucky to make a full pass on each Simulator. I’m not sure if this info helps out at all, I thought it would be interesting to see though.

I remember ice saying they changed teh mechanics of the level scaling so that no so many players would see so many 230's during the heroic juggs event.
If it's still in effect here I think we've broke it.

Maybe you guys just haven't whined enough? I whined ENDLESSLY during the first couple scaling events and now my levels are fine!0 -

I am an avid Spider-man user. I boost when needed as well. Lately I've been healing with Spidey mid match as opposed to the end of the match since coming out of a match fully healed is also detrimental to your performance.0 -
out of pure curiosity - how do you know levels of some sims when you haven't played the chain before?
I cannot open them before I defeat the previous one at least once0 -
I have been playing when I can, as I have had to work quite a bit over the last few days but I have floated around that top 10 for most the event. I have enjoyed the difficulty it's made me use some of the guys I wouldn't usually use. Iron man and his ability to generate have come in handy on a number of occasions, couple him with lazy Thor and black widow grey suit and it's been fun times.0

Little piece of advice, target IW first and good luck with simulator4, that one has been a nightmare for me0 -
^ Hmm, I dunno, I targeted the Brawler first, since the mook generates green and blue AP for Spider-Man and IW. Once the Brawler was out, it went much easier. In the easy sub I targeted Spidey first though.
Sim 04 is indeed nightmarish, I went both Spidey/Loki on that one and still only managed the hard one with 3 or 4 tries. The important thing was to take out Doom first since there's nothing you can do with attack tiles and they work through stun, oh my god, does it hurt.0 -

I thought so at first also as 2 of my 141s are punisher and patch. Then I just stuck 2* Mags with spiderman and relaxed. If I'm going to be fighting enemies near 200, I'll try to out-cheese their cheese.0 -

I've had pretty good luck on sim 4 with just Hulk/C. Mags/Hood surprisingly. I'm starting to get a lot more impressed with the hood, who really shines against these long, drawn out fights against 230s. Hulk tanks a ton of damage and gets cascades with green, while you build up purple and red to finish people off.0 -
For Sim 4, I've been using Hood, GSBW, and Spidey. It's been working well for me. I target Punisher first and only stun to keep Wolvie from healing or to keep them from firing off a power, in the unlikely event that Hood lets them get enough AP to fire anything off. Once GSBW gets enough purple, it's almost an endless turn. It's also a good time to use those Critical Tile boosts I keep winning from the other subs...0
-
When I went through every battle last night I was mainly running Spider-Man with Ares, BP, or Punisher. Team damage has been huge in this round. Mags I know you said you've been going with GSBW...what do you have her leveled at? I have her at 115, but I worry about how squishy she is.0
-
I have her at 120 -- her health is 4318. She's still squishy, but not too bad. She did get wiped out by C. Storm's Wind Storm when I was playing in the desert with Hood and Punisher. (Though to be fair, that nearly wiped out Hood and Punisher, too.)
If I don't have Spidey available to stun, I just try to pay attention to AP, and if someone has enough to fire off a power, I try and put whoever has enough health to survive the attack in front. I'm mainly playing with Hood and Punisher anyway, and they don't have significantly more health than GSBW.0
