how loud do we need to complain about drop rates

That is no where near the worst box, I have opened a BB before where the only rare I got was the guaranteed one and no mythics

This literally just happened to me on a big box of Kaladesh. But it's cool because I was able to convert all of my dupe un/commons for 2,000 runes! </sarcasm>

    Time for a break.

The last BFZ box I bought was exactly this. One guaranteed rare, no mythics. All 71 cards were duplicates. I haven't bought a single BFZ box since.

Yeah look at my previous post. I have one rare and one guarenteed, but 8 rare and a mythics but all dups.

I think we need to bring this back to the devs attention, it's gone on unanswered long enough. Honestly, this is the single biggest issue with the game, it affects literally every player.

The past 10 or so Rares and Mythics I've gotten have been dupes.

It's like the chance that you get a card goes up after you get it once and all the ones you don't have go down.

I have 5 out of 24 Mythics from Battle For Zendikar ...
but I've gotten Emeria Shepherd twice and Part the Waterveil 3 times.

Seems like MTG:PQ RNG = Broken!

Oh the rng isn't broken, it's just complete ****.

The first problem I see is that rares and mythics are just too rare considering the amount per set. The first two big boxes of a set are going to fill your common/uncommon collection, this part is fun and interesting. But after that, anything you open is just going to be 99% dupes. Which is very frustrating.

Secondly, dupes are just worthless, the runes you get in exchange don't feel meaningful because you are converting cards into planeswalker levels. I'm not a fan of having to level planeswalkers but that's a topic for another day.

Mtgpq is a collectible card game, but there is no realistic way to collect all the cards. Players have no way of guiding their collection into a specific direction, they are at the mercy of RNG. Assuming you buy 3k runes, that's 100$ for 5 fatpacks and probably an average of 3-5 mythics. There are 30+ mythics per set. Are you really expecting people to spend over 1000$ on a mobile game? At least with the paper version of magic, the cards you buy have an intrinsic value and can still be sold afterwards. I'm a whale, I'll admit it, I've spent a few hundred bucks on this game, and I've felt cheated every single time.

I'm sure the comparison has already been made with Hearthstone, but that game has systems in place to make people feel good about spending money. First, duplicates can be converted into new cards at a reduced rate (via the dust mechanic) secondly, cards can be golden (foil in mtg terms) adding an extra layer of collection and giving even duplicate commons a chance at being worthwhile. Thirdly, the random generator isn't random and has built-in systems to prevent dry-runs. Every 5th pack will have a guarantee epic and every 40th a guaranteed legendary (these counters reset if you find one sooner)

In my opinion, spending 200$ on a set should pretty much guarantee a full collection. (of course, you need to be able to do this f2p as well)

And RNG is the problem here for sure.

Right now they have that Mythic Set on sale... but if I drop 350 mana crystals... am I guaranteed to get something new?
Or will I get a dupe... that's why I haven't done all three... I did one. But I would be absolutely pissed if I dropped 350 crystals on one freaking card and it was a dupe that I only got 1000 USELESS runes in return.

For 350 Runes they should let us pick the card! Then I'd be interested in doing it.

I have a lot of trouble putting money into this game b/c it just doesn't seem worth while.
I've only dropped about $25 or so, but that's b/c my experiences with opening big boxes with earned crystals definitely DO NOT justify the prices they ask!

    14 packs...
    0 Rares/Mythics

I can't even get the uncommon I'm looking for.

    This is the 3rd time I've gotten 0 Rares/Mythics from 14 packs.

    Your drop rate sucks!

    Haha I know your pain.

Think I've open 15-16 boxes of SOI/EMN and haven't got the uncommon that creatures a vampire on an active trigger....

I've been looking for graf harvest for my zombie deck.

I have the one you're talking about.
  • First of all, made an account just to complain about this.

But before I get started, I get the impression that the guys complaining about only getting one rare drop in a box are upset because drops are not like paper magic, but here we are promised nothing more than 1 rare in 1 box (unlike 1 rare in 1 pack like paper). So if you got what was advertised and you feel cheated, you should probably step away from the game.

With that said, I am not an apologist for the drop rates, and in fact I have my own grievance to field. I bought 3 SOI boxes last week just before they were pulled from the vault. The first box gave me 2 or 3 rares (all new). The second box gave me 2 rares (both new, too). The third box gave me six rares, and five of them were the exact same rare cards I had just pulled from the previous two boxes.

I can tolerate getting dupes just fine, and I can tolerate only getting one rare in a box, even if it happened to be a dupe. I can even tolerate getting 5 rares that are all dupes. I don't like it, but I tolerate it. But getting five rares that are all dupes of cards that I literally just got feels like a really big bias in their algorithms, not to mention a slap in the face. Since none of us know what the drop rates are like, we can't really speculate how probable or improbable this is, but given my cursory knowledge of statistics, this is certainly really high up on the improbable list. Which also lends me to believe there's some biases introduced into the rng to affect drops.

And since there's no open discussion about the drop rates between devs and the community, we have to assume that things are working normally. D3 already has shown what capable developers they are by giving the game numerous other problems and glitches and bugs, so we're just supposed to take it on face value that the rng is working as it should? And from my brief unscientific testing with a too-small sample size, not even the crystals that were acquired through purchase have any higher bias for rare card drops. You'd think a f2p game would try and throw a bone to their paying users/whales once in a while...

Jeez really that's your first post.....

We are not complaining about it not being comparable to magic paper. Obviously 1 rare per pack would be "nice", but not vie-sable.
We just want a fairer drop rate.

It's obvious that the Rares and Mythics are "graded" and that you get the same rare over n over because that is what the game is built to do.
It's a cash cow and if you buy the $30 mythics then you'll be ahead of the game.

My idea is this: Big Box - guaranteed mythic, the drop rate of mhthics and rares should be this: mythic, 1 in 10 packs
    Rare: 1 in 5 packs
    Uncommon: 4 in 2 packs
Just a rough idea, also if this change was made then the price of the mythic packs should be lowered to 250/200 crystals.

The only problem with your idea is... well... d3 loves their money. So why would they bother satisfying players by increasing drop rates when so many people drop money on the game now.

They have embraced the "Pay to Not Suck" model.

There are less and less people spending money on the game now. If they increased the drop rates I can guarantee that more people would drop some $$ on the game. Although this only if the lag and cheaters and tiebreakers are ALSO solved. We live in hope.

I certainly would be more willing to put money into the game if I thought that it was going to make it worth my cash...

    What cheating scenarios are there.
I know one is the fact that I seem to fight Koth all the F'ing time during events that have no red node.
    That's annoying as hell!

    DISCLAIMER
dot get to hyped up over this -- it could be nothing and just a coincidence.

So, over the last 12 hours roughly I've heard an astonishing amount of positive and amazing stories of pack openings and drop rates. It may be a coincidence but there are so many stories and I can't ignore it and pass it off as the random person getting a good pack or fat pack every so often. This has been an overflow of good pulls from fat packs and single packs. I will update and edit this post if it continues or dies off. Let's hope it continues. I am hoping so much that the drop rates have finally increased.

    I'm still getting **** pulls.
I got my first rare in about 2 weeks yesterday.
I have 600 Crystals waiting to buy a big box when they make Shadows available again... so we'll see.
