lol I don't know how you guys do it. I can't imagine the devs wanted their elite events to turn out like this. Although maybe all they care about is the bottom line (HP burned).
I do wonder how an unshielded elite event would look like. It would probably resemble something close to how the SHIELD tournment works (everyone hovering around the same point totals).0 -

I'm completely baffled to see so much shielding going on overall with these rewards structured as such.
They are indeed adding up. Yep, unless you're prepared to go all the way and spend as much as it takes there's not much reason to shield. Maybe one or two, as there's a nice ISO bonus for Top 100 and up, but nothing like what happens at the top. The only reason I am able to keep up this pace is the HP I got from the first Elite tourney. Josemartins has been making it rain for the last 4 days.0 -

I got into top 10 and didn't start shielding until last night.
So far I've used one 8hr shield and four 3hr shields. That's 450HP and you win 500HP for top100 placement.
I think anyone with a decent 3 star team (max cover 100+) can hit top30 with minimal shield use.
Only those with deep pockets or a stockpile of HP should attempt the top 3 summit ascent... 4th place is where dreams go to die.0 -

After dealing with 230 teams all day, a 141 team isn't that bad. Plus, everyone competing for that top spot is boosting every match for sure, regardless of their roster. It's all about determination, speed, vigilance, and timing.
..and shields.. lots and lots of shields.

If you're not shooting for the top 3, then that amount of shielding is not even close to worth it. It's also not nearly as necessary. At this point I need to break shield and attack every single time I get one of the top 3 queued up. If I were only going for the top 100 or so, I could queue up three juicy targets and only break shield every 8 hours or so, and I could have started the tournament with two days to go and done that. The only reason we're spending so much is that the top 3 reward is so good. If I get it, I will only need covers for IW, **** Wolverine, GSBW, Moonstone, and Psylocke. I will have no reason (other than ISO) to try in the new Psylocke tournament because my **** Wolverine will already have 5 green. After this insane weekend of playing, I will only need to do the PVE events (which with as strong of a team as I have, is only 1-2 hours a day), and tournaments which offer one of the few covers I don't have. I will be able to farm fun, interesting teams, try new strats, level **** wolverine up, do whatever and only try really hard when new characters are offered.
The end of that last paragraph probably made this game seem like a lot of work, but it's really just these elite tournaments, for me.0 -

Though I'm not participating in this one, I'll give my perspective...
I have 15K HP saved up - there is literally nothing to spend it on. Sure, I can spend it on getting Psylocke covers early, but that just means I'll have no reason to join the tourneys where she is the reward.
For me, the elite tournaments are the most exhilarating tournaments I've been in since the very first month of play. It is SO exciting/stressful in those last couple of hours as you're either trying to make it up the bracket with tons of people gunning for you or trying to keep your spot on top.
Fortunately, I've been lucky to come out ahead or even on HP in all of the ones I've participated in...though that is certainly not the case for everybody (probably less than 1%, really.)0 -

lol yeah i figured you had more then enough to not worry about it. But can we really even call 15k iso a "good" reward for top 10? I mean hell 15kiso isnt even enough to max a 3 color 1* character!
I dunno I just think that they should have had top 10 with at least 50k Iso so that someone could actually make a noticeable jump in a 3* character. Top 50 could have been 25k and top 100 15k. *shrugs*
-Edit- and yeah i totally understand the lack of HP sinks and infact spent 800 of my HP on the 1* covers special sale that went on to "convert" it into iso0 -

15K, plus seven days worth of iso earned moving up the leaderboard... that's not an insignificant amount.
Personally I love the format. NHB rules in an LR style bracket so I can actually attack the people I'm competing with. Nothing more sastisfying then queuing up someone ranked just above or below you, waiting for them to unshield, then tagging them for a 40 pt swing.0 -
At what point to I deliberately unshield to try and bait the others? Break shield for a quick fight against a really weak team, then watch the leaderboard for when/if the top 3 break shield to attack me, queue them up and then shield before they can finish matches. Would that even work? I'm hoping Josemartins or Doombot gets greedy enough to try for first, but if they wait until the last hour to do so, that might not be enough time for me to close the gap.0

I've seen some shield breaks in the past hour from those around 10th place. I'd be patient for now and keep hitting that skip button (note to NHB elite contenders, DO NOT install update until after tourney is over, unless you like paying out the nose in skip taxes).
If you're still not getting any decent matches with 4 hrs to go and it's still turtletown at the top... I think it would be worth it to get a quick strike in, see if you can sucker someone into giving you a defensive win or get someone in the top20 to break and chase.0 -
I wouldn't force a move yet Rango, with how JoseMartins plays I am sure you will get a chance at him soon, and once he unshields the rest may follow suit. Things began to ramp up with about 4 hours to go last time.0

Doombot is unlikely to be the one to break shield - he's 50 points away from me, and over 100 on you. It's too risky for him since he's got Top 3 locked.
Josemartins is the most likely candidate, as he has shown that he really wants first, and is well within striking distance. If I were him, I'd queue you up but not attack you until the very end and aim for just enough points to take 1st at the buzzer.
If he does unshield early to attack you and takes 1st, I'll queue him up and attack him at the the buzzer to retake the lead. If he's thinking through my possible strategy, he knows that and may not take the risk. Or, he may already be holding onto one of us queued up and counting on that to put him over the top. Or, he may just ride shields out until the end, but his past behavior has indicated he's willing to go for it.
I dunno about unshielding first, as you have no idea if they're even watching the leaderboards right now, and to stay unshielded long enough to ensure they pick you up in their queues may open you to a drop as well. I'd probably let Josemartins make the first move in your shoes, but I can see why you'd take a risk on it as you've got to get them out in the open a few times to close the gap. It's a tough spot.0 -
I'll wait until 4 hours before the end and see it there is any action before that. If not, I'm going to have to get risky.0

I know it might not mean much but im rooting for both of you guys! (RangoFett for 3rd and walkyourpath for 1st)0

On the contrary, it's much appreciated!0 -
Wondering if I can join with 3 hours left and still make top 1000

Probably. Took me about an hour to get up to top 100.0 -
Hm if it's that easy maybe I should join. But I don't know if I want to put in the effort. What's the point threshold around 100 right now?0

Haven't seen either team roster in a while but I would think top 100 is more than doable for Psyko and Jozier.0
