  • Ive played no mission over the night and the simulation 4 has increased from 144lvl to 165 lvl.... Is that normal?
  • Well, I am happy enough to have a vast mid-level roster and a 5 blue spidey to tackle about anything with the correct approach, but I really feel the pain of those who don't.

I found me a nice lazy bracket, currently leading 1st in all 3, and my Wolvie & Son are in their 101s and 190s hard mode.

I really hope that at least normal mode does not scale like crazy, I can bear with some grinding, but not when it takes 20 minutes per match.

Except from scaling, the event was very well designed. I really hope we get this every other week, with different teams and challenges. And a slower scaling please? icon_lol.gif

Yeah, it'll go up based on how the community is doing.

Started in about an hour ago, to start the hard version is level 40ish it was like 20 when I woke up this morning, kinda wish I didn't have work as now the 5k ISO mission started at 213 for me for the very first go at it. I've got too much fatigue from TaT and Osborne Hard mode to compete in this one.

I'm just wondering if the timing of the reset, in terms of points available, will be more rewarding to those who are in the same time zone as D3? Cos when the event started it was 1am where I'm at and I only started playing at 8am.

If they don't reset the scaling per event I don't see myself participating any more. In my "easy mode" the daken team is already past level 100... it was a nightmare killing them at level 135+. I was really excited about this event when it first started but now its getting to be in the same boat as TaT, not even motivated a little bit to play it.
  • Since the scaling is cumulative this time around, I assume tanking is not really an option this time (like it was in the TaT-event). Probably would only work if it was mass tanking.

Nah, it saves you some work actually. The rubberbanding is based on the points of the first players overall, so you can leapfrog those who started much earlier. This game rewards you the most when you play not too little, not too much, and also feels better this way.

What I'm finding incredibly frustrating is that in most missions I only have 1 reward, yet when I replay them to try to get more rewards, I'm getting 20 ISO every time. 3 times in a row I've beaten Sim 9 in Easy mode to try and get the 500 ISO (I got the recruit token first time), and 3 times I've gotten 20 ISO. It's ridiculous! They should make it so you get all 4 rewards if you beat the mission 4 times. At least that way you have a proper incentive to replay all missions.

Edit: Make that 4 times in a row! It's absurd!
Edit 2: Now 5 times in a row I've gotten 20 ISO with 3 rewards remaining. Am I only allowed to get 1 reward per mission or something?
Edit 3: 6 times in a row! This is taking the piss now.
Edit 4: It took until my 9th attempt to get something other than 20 ISO, which was of course the 100 ISO reward! There is no way the odds of those rewards are 50/50 as IceIX suggests.
  • I can understand scaling difficulty to stop grinding but i dont understand scaling difficulty to stop you playing.

If they really want to make events accessible to a broad range of players then they have to approach scaling from an entirely different angle. Currently difficulty increases for everybody as players beat the missions. The stronger players will usually breeze through those missions a few times, essentially causing the weaker players to get locked out for good within a few hours. What should be happening is that missions get easier the more players complete them, at least for those players that were unable to complete them so far. Make event points gained scale with mission difficulty, so those players who help the community in lowering the difficulty level will receive a slightly bigger reward.

I hope all hard mode missions end up being 200-230; it should actually be hard, instead of "normal" and "slightly more difficult normal" modes.

I think that level 120-160 is a good range of hard for most players: 200-230 just seems like you either have spidey stunlock or you die. Granted, I was able to do some 3x 230 missions with thorverine/OBW back in the day, but I don't think that strategy works anymore.
There are still alternatives even at 230, they're just likely harder or less reliable so no one bothers. All of TaT could be cleared without Spider-Man, the majority of it significantly faster, obviously excluding missions where he was required. The Storms' board clear & AP gen can work wonders with a lot of luck, and other control-heavy characters like Magnetos can minimize AI turns. The problem is that somewhere around high 100s to 200+ you're looking at content most of the 1,000ish people who come here can't do, and some who can just won't, or will grudgingly wade through a little because Spider-Man mode is a chore. Where do we reckon that leaves the bulk of the other 59,000? A few missions like that gives the most determined with the best developed relevant rosters an advantage, which is sensible, but shooting everything up there would just be asking to have the game shuttered within six months. Who produces content exclusive to such a small fraction of users?

More than one 230 here now, and more seem well on their way after pretending to stop earlier. Devil Dino's probably out of most people's reach by now just 'cos of that low AP attack. Notable that MagsDoomHood isn't going up much - does this suggest the global scaling is heavily influenced by which missions people are actually doing, or just lower base level? That one's a harder team composition than the family Logan and mook, just not so impossible until it gets past playable level caps because squishies.

The normal mode is reasonable so far (up to 100ish), but no one who can't do hard is placing in that, because people who can are facerolling to top 10. That doesn't seem too bright, either, though someone focusing on the normal might be able to offset it with rubber band and time. There can't be that many with time to grind both subs right down twice a day, can there?
  • It's funny how the reaction to the past 3 PvE events has been:

Event Launch: 'This is pretty cool, good job Demiurge'
    Scaling kicks in: 'Bugger'.

I think it's doing a better job this time round of keeping everything doable, with relatively few borderline impossible/stunlock required, though obviously after previous showings give it another day and who knows?

What's just bizarrely silly is that starting out at the ceilings would've made it perfectly clear to most people that they weren't welcome in hard mode and could try to rubber band into top 10 with a lot of carefully-timed easier grinding or wait for tournaments to get shiny new character. Apparently crushing widespread false hope makes events more "interesting".
  • The main thing I am upset about is the scaling and not being able to get Psylocke. icon_e_sad.gif

Instead of fixing the scaling problem it will be easier to give everyone Psylocke covers and 50000 iso.
  • Managed to beat level 167 Muscle, X-Force (thank pasta it's X-Force and not Astonishing, his delayed healing is hilarious) and level 166 Daken with level 3 stunlock, cStorm's passive and oBW's stealing helped a lot as usual. Sitting on 12k ISO and hoping to get some new covers since all of my heroes are capped.

    After not even a day I find already Daken-XFW-Maggia at lv226! icon_cry.gif

I don't think it's intentional, they just lack people with a good feeling for numbers. They are obviously trying to correct some of the more glaring design sins, it often feels like someone is tossing a coin though. Now that they managed to break PvE three times in a row somebody in the right position will hopefully realize that there's a community out there far more familiar with the game mechanics and eager to help. Letting the community participate in the design phase instead of just deploying the next prototype and disappearing until the storm blows over would benefit the game a lot.
  • i got several at 230 already in hard. Even my normal sim has almost 200's.

    sigh....

They gotta be kidding me, I couldn't start yet due to overtime @ work + sleep and now I'll probably start with 230th already before I've done a single mission? tinykitty that
