And I certainly don't believe in the mantra of shielding every 2-3 fights when you are under 900. A climb from 500-600 to 850-900 in one go, before shielding has proved for me to be the best use of my time and HP, hopefully only needing one more hop to reach 1k (for which I do try to line targets in advance, though that has betrayed me a few times when my target ended being much less valuable than I expected.)
It is really simple, since I climb from 600 to 900+ at once and follow the 5 minute rule. Queue up 3 solid points. Hit one, queue up a replacement. Hit one of the two already queued up, find a replacement and repeat. You are climbing non-stop and still giving players the courtesy of time. Take advantage of the fact that you can queue up 3 at a time.0 -

I have thought about joining a competitive alliance, but the alliance i run is made up of my wife, some RL friends, and others.. not going to be leaving.. as for line.. it's one thing to be playing while watching tv.. but if i monopolize the laptop to use line while playing as well.. my wife will destroy my phone. Plus, the new Diablo 3 patch is coming out soon.. so, evenings will be taken up with my wife brutalizing me in rift runs.. (she is hardcore when it comes to her D3 time, not that i mind)
As for 1k, waiting until just around 3 hours to line up and go for it, so i can re-shield immediately after i get it. Will start lining up targets around 11:50am EST, slice ends at 3pm EST.0 -

No. You're not listening to the excellent advice that has been given throughout the thread. Look for targets NOW. And every time you have a chance until you find good ones. I try to always find 2 good ones for a hop when I'm in your situation, so if things don't work out with the first one, I have a backup.
"Good targets" means people with as many points as possible, preferably 20 or so more than you need to make your progression goal. It also means people who will keep these points: people you know are often high on the leaderboards, people you can see in your leaderboard, people from top alliances. I don't know what slice matches the time you mention, but if it's slice 5, there are lots of X-Men in it for Fresh Cut.
Yes, that means spending many hundreds if not a few thousand iso. That's the cost of success.
Also, playing at exactly the 3h left mark is a BAD IDEA. Many people hop exactly then, or plan to finish their push exactly then, to shield to the end. If your current shield will allow it, wait a bit longer. I've had better success at around 2 hours to go than 3.0 -

Very true words, plus keep an eye on the top10 of your leaderboard, when they unshield, skip until you find them, it usually won't take more than 10 skips and you will know that they still have the points when you make your push later.0 -

My current shield will last until the event is over if i want it to.. so my options are a 3 hour or a 24 hours.. which is why i was waiting for the 3 hour mark.
So wait until the 2 hour mark then??0 -
yes, and go find juicy targets now lol
Good luck!
P.S.- As already been stated, make sure those targets are reliable aka either in your Top 10 or a Top 10 Alliance that you can check in-game.0 -

This is what I already do. However, that gives like 2 minutes, 5 at most since I queue until I hit, which is far less than the 10 to 20 some people here suggest. Anyway, as promised, I'm going to give the whole system a go now; I'll let you guys know how it went.0 -

If you don't want to join an alliance and abandon your wife and family, then I'd suggest joining the same truce that Django is in on Line. They have a shared battle chat and such. I'd also suggest contacting the top alliances and ask about joining their sheild check rooms when you find yourself in a slice with one of them. Most of them are pretty cool about it and will offer helpful advice when asked.Malcrof wrote:So wait until the 2 hour mark then??0 -

Ok, so to sum up. Went looking for targets now instead of waiting, saw a really soft target worth the points i needed (cost about 200 iso to find it), so i broke shield and went for it.
The result:
MY FIRST EVER 1k in a PVP! and yes, it is very much worth the 300hp to re-shield, at least to me it was. IMHB is now 1/5/3
+1 for everyone! Now, time to make this a regular occurrence lol.
I do have line on my phone, but if i am playing, and minimize MPQ to check it, the game is slowed to a crawl when i maximize it.. my phone is not top shelf. Z9700 -

Congratulations! I hope you get a lot of use out of your shiny HB cover.
Now, I'm sorry to be the one raining on your parade but this started as an etiquette thread after all: if you unshielded to hit as soon as you found this target, which is what it sounds like from your post, you're still not doing it right.
You were shielded with no time pressure on the shield. You were scanning through nodes long enough to have spent some hundreds of iso. This means that the people you were queuing were no longer from the local buffer on your device but were pulled fresh from the server. So that person you hit for lots of points was probably hopping. If you didn't wait, there's a real good chance you caught them mid-hop, before they could reshield. It's quite likely you cost them quite a bundle.
Think about it for a second: could you have played that very same match 10 minutes later? That's the central idea of this whole thread.0 -
TxMoose wrote:don't mean to go off topic but I'm starting to hit 1K regularly and I can't imagine getting to 1300 at this point. sometimes I've needed a match at event end to make 1K (that was one where I didn't intend to go for it, but made it anyway). I can usually get there with 3/8/3 or 8/3/8/3 depending on timing but only way I see 1300 happening is throwing lots more hops that include 24hrs in the mix (triple to quadruple hp spend) and basically being required to join the line groups (not happening for me).
Two main factors to get to 1300 are: roster strength and hop number. I peeked at your roster and it's good, but not a lot of scarecrows for 1000+. So as you said, you would need to increase your number of hops to be able to protect your points. Without a scarecrow team, your hops past 1000 will likely only be 1-2 fight hops.
As discussed in this thread (and others), Line is not a requirement to hit 1300. I was hitting 1300 long before I joined and Line groups. Line makes your hops more productive, by making it easier to find high point targets. The guys and gals I hop with, will typically drop their first shield after breaking 1000. With 3 good queues loaded per hop (and you won't necessarily do all 3; especially as your score gets higher and event end gets closer), 1300 is very reachable. For simplicity's sake, let's say you find 3x50 pt targets prior to each hop. 1st hop (maybe 10-12 hr from end) is fairly safe and you do all three. Score is now 1150. 2nd hop (maybe around the 9-10 hr mark) is getting a little more dangerous so you only do two fights. Score is now 1250. 3rd hop (maybe inside of 3 hrs) is when all the sharks are circling. One fight and get out. Final score is 1300. Obviously the number of fights you do will depend on your roster. But this is a simple outline how most of us hit 1300. 24-hr shield is also not required. Line definitely helps, but again, not a requirement. Line reduces your time investment searching for those juicy targets.0 -
