So, Etiquette. Your Thoughts?

What are some general thoughts from players regarding etiquette during gameplay and within the community? What things irk you most in regards to other player interaction? What things do you enjoy seeing?
I realize that this is a really broad question, and I hope to see a myriad of responses as I would genuinely like to know what people think.

I probably didn't understand what "double tapping is" - but actually looking at player name and trying not to hit the same player multiple times is something I really, really try to do - and those that hit me multiple times I say nasty things about under my breath.0

Well, sure. And then there are the players I hit for 45+ points, who then go on to retaliate. .. Which means they again show up for 45 points. (Someone did this four times for me yesterday. Either they didn't understand the system, or were trying to be nice to me.)
If someone is going to be nice and offer points on a platter, I'm taking them.
On the flip side, you make it sound like there is much option. I think we've all had the experience of only having four people in our queue, so no matter how many times we skip we can't get past the same tiny(kitty) list of names.
Frankly, I think the best way to have fun is to ignore names, and just play. I actually wish they were hidden (perhaps revealed after the battle), unless we get to the point where we can challenge specific players.0 -
As a mobile player, I've wondered: Is there any way to see the queue? I have just been skipping through the three options offered to me until I find a reasonable opponent.0

Fully agree with this. I understand and appreciate the sentiment of being nice, but I cannot help to think that people who suggest it, play in a different level of reality. When I unshield and I need a few matches to reach a certain score and I'm spending hundreds of iso skipping to find a match over 35 points, I'm sorry but I'm not going to go "oh this guy, who finally showed up giving me decent points, must have just unshielded, I won't snipe him" and wait 10 minutes while I'm being attacked, losing hundreds of points; nor I will spend 150/300 HP in another hop to wait on each person I encounter while unshielded.0 -
Maybe your schedules don't permit it, but getting into an organized truce or shield check room is lightyears beyond the way you guys seem to enjoy playing. You don't mind just hitting anyone and everyone to get your progressions? Really? Do you enjoy random hits yourself? Get organized and you'll never have to skip dozens of times to find points, or deny someone from reaching their own progressions.
Cooperation is key and it's incredibly easy, gentlemen.0 -

If you don't have your 2 or 3 matches lined up before you unshield you're doing it wrong. If you're at a point where you haven't used your first shield yet you can afford to wait 8m before hitting a 70+ point target.0 -
I do my best to try and not hit the same player back to back in PVP. And since I mostly play PVP for progression (occasionally for top 50/100 if I'm in need) I also do my best to let people complete their hop if I can.0

Yeah, that's a bit difficult for me. It's already bad that PVE governs my life as it does. PVP I play in bursts when I can/feel like and it's worked for me so far. Camping a chat room until the proper time for everybody participating seems like spending an additional bunch of time into the game to what I already invest, while forcing me into more scheduling and planning my life around it. Moreover, it's not like the system is infallible; your group may all coordinate and cooperate but free-style people still can snipe you especially if you are taking your sweet time unshielded. For the system to be perfect, /everybody/ would have to get in the spirit of cooperation and that's just impossible. So I'd say that for people unwilling to spend more than small percentage of their days in MPQ, it is anything but "incredibly easy".dkffiv wrote:If you don't have your 2 or 3 matches lined up before you unshield you're doing it wrong. I do queue a few while shielded, though that has bitten me on the **** a few times when I find out that from the point I queued to the point I play, that person's score has actually decreased. Anyway, once I've defeated those, if I haven't been attacked, you bet I'm going to keep looking for targets. I appreciate the MPQ community but not enough as to waste 150 or 300 of such a precious commodity as HP just to benefit a complete stranger, when I don't even know if people finding me will extend me such courtesies.0 -

As someone who once shared your skepticism about chat room organization but recently had the opportunity to join one, I will say that my shield hopping and overall game experience was much more enjoyable having joined one. No longer did I have to feel the pinch of guilt and worry about whether or not the person I was hitting was unshielded or not and it was nice knowing there were many players out there that wished to extend the same courtesy. You are right there will be the occasional rogue snipe and maybe it does extend play time a bit (I don't know) but for me the benefits far, far outweigh the negatives.
To put it more simply, don't knock it till you try it. You will be surprised about how nice and cool the people are behind the target names that come up in your node.0 -

If you are at 1k+ and completed 3+ matches there's a higher than 90% chance that people saw you but chose to wait. How often are you getting hit for 300+ slightly after shielding? Can almost guarantee all those people were waiting for you.0 -
Graargh, very well people, you win. I'll give it a go in Jean's PVP (I don't need any of the rewards in Psylocke's).
Good job in presenting a well-argumented position while staying polite. Jerks.0 -

So, my question to you is whether or not this would be acceptable behavior? Is it "unsportsmanlike" or simply "just part of the game"?0 -

This sounds nice, but if the person getting "double tapped" is in the highest rankings, how is someone who is rising closer to the top going to avoid having only the same few people to attack? Is this even an option or is it simply frowned upoin no matter what?0 -

If everyone sniped (hit the biggest targets you see as fast as you can) it would be significantly harder if not impossible to hit 1k/1.3k. When shield hopping results in negative points you're just throwing away HP so fewer people would try to climb high making it harder for everyone else.
Unless you let people shield properly its nearly a zero sum system. Any points you gain will be taken away by someone else.IamTheBiggs wrote:SnowcaTT wrote:I probably didn't understand what "double tapping is" - but actually looking at player name and trying not to hit the same player multiple times is something I really, really try to do - and those that hit me multiple times I say nasty things about under my breath.

If you're near the top you attack that person but after they shield (while you're still hiding behind your own shield). You gain points, they don't lose any, everyone else who queued both of them get big fat +70 targets. Net gain to system 600+ points.0 -
When I'm hopping, I'll give my targets some time to finish their matches before I hit them. However, I don't shield before I reach 1000, which means that from 800ish to 1000, I don't wait 5 minutes before attacking a juicy target, which could ruin someone's hop.0

An xman who shall remain unnamed hit me 3x in one session in the if event. Too bad he doesn't realize I actually look at the names, and I'll be motivated to hit him more frequently in the near future.0

I don't take it personally (or at least I try very hard not to ) if someone hits me unshielded. But I sure hope the people I end up hitting don't take it personally either - although I know for a fact that some people/alliances do, having been a victim of the occasional coordinated snipe. But it's part of the game.
I do try to wait until targets finish their hops if I know they're unshielded - even if I can see you above me on the leaderboard. I only play for progression anyway, not placement.
The one question I do have is , these shield chat rooms, how massive must they be for them to actually work? I suppose they would be smaller if organized by slice, but there are still a lot of people who would need to be in it for you to get good info.0 -
This weekend is the first time I understood what a tremendous metagame there is behind PVP rankings. Between this thread and the locked/deleted post about sniping and dumping, I realized I've been playing an entirely different game than the people on this forum. It's good to know that it's not just my skill level or unwillingness to spend that's been holding me back on ranking high in events.0
