Can 3* player hit PVP progressions?

Just to add to the testimonials, with 10 max 3* chars and no great 4* char to use (525 x-force at level 196 that I never use in pushing), it is absolutely possible to hit 1k WITHOUT using a shield. Note: possible = not easy.
It's a crapshoot, and basically boils down to do you have the right buffed characters for the week that will allow you to attack and gain points quickly. But with floating at around 650-750 points, somewhere in the last day or so I have been able to make a mad dash to 1000 in... 40-50% of the pvp events of the last season. Again, your mileage may vary, but it is certainly possible without spending a fortune on shields.0 -

The problem with putting it on the forum is:
1) It's too slow. When someone is hopping, they will be unshielded for only a few minutes. Going through the forum to post or read that information may as well be an eternity.
2) You don't know how each individual will use that information. Using battle chat, especially with people from various alliances, requires some level of trust. Posting shield status on an open forum, you have no control whether someone will use that against you.0 -
just to add another experience. I've hit 1000 about 6-7 times over the last 2 months. 2 months ago I had 1 maxed (thor) with another at 142 (loki). middle of that season I got mags covered and maxed him. I hit 1000 3 of the last 4 events that season. I have since added a maxed fist and loads at 140 now (I think 7) with most of the rest at 120. this season I only targeted 3 1K spots and I hit them all, although I've found 800 to be very easy now. 1000 takes some work and hopping for me still, although I still don't have a handle on when its safe and when it isn't. in the torch event I had to do 2 matches in hops because of how many points I needed (played my initial push one match too many and came out -100), and I have not had much success doing 2-hop matches, but they went off without a hitch and torch/fist/mags worked ok, but my matches weren't fast. but apparently everyone elses matches weren't fast either, so that worked out. i have had other events where i could not finish one match in a hop without getting hit before i came out of my 1 match. i remember the last event of the previous season (sentry event i think). grocket was boosted and i had a looooong match where the opposing grocket healed...twice. i knew i would come out of that to several hits but didn't - no hits at all. was able to shield and felt good about getting to px blue. next hop, play one match, hit. try it again later, hit. so, I'm not entirely certain what the variables are that made a long match ok at one point but 2 quicker matches not good enough at another point.0

You can be in different brackets but still hit people in the same shard/time slice. In god of lies, I was in the same bracket as alot of the heavy hitters in the xmen, finished 44th I think with around 1100 points.
so everyone in same time slice can see each other?
Yes, you're not limited to players in your bracket.
huh, didn't know that...

This has been a very good thread everyone...I know BOP will be a weird event since it's off-season, but this'll be one of the better events to see if I can get to 1300 since the grounds are "even".
I guess I'll just keep trying for 1000 rewards and ignore 1300 rewards since I haven't been invited to Fight Club, I mean the PVP Point Mystery chat thing and plus they prob wouldn't want me since I'm always streaming and could endanger their families0 -

Combine that with a cover for first that everyone needs and you have a recipe for late starts trying to snipe a fresh bracket and therefore low scores.0 -

My bracket currently has 4 ppl over 1000 so....0 -
I don't expect scoring to be very high here. between seasons and there's a huge chunk of the player base that just skips theses altogether to recharge the batteries. also they throw **** awards on these, so some of those who might put forth an effort for shulk progression (should be since the last pvp was shulk placements) and blade placement might see doc ock progression and QS placement and think - 'not worth my time/effort'.0

This is the first season in around 5 months where I hit 1k to 1.2k every PVP just for a decent season prize. The last time I worked this hard I got top 25. This season I got top 250 with it.
I think that's the proof there, granted there are other ripples like the increased availability of obtaining 3*s. 3* rosters can easily compete with 4*s if they lay down some HP, and it appears many are willing to do this.0 -
Wow! I was ranked #70 with 5333 points and I barely tried and skipped/hardly played some PvPs. Top of my bracket was NoGard of S.H.I.E.L.D with 16547 points.0

It seems pretty clear that the post was a response to Dauthi's post immediately above it.
As far as the hunt for 1300 goes, good luck with the target hunting.0 -

Raisinbman - prior to the new point structure and boosted characters, seasick pirate had a post about a 1000 point challenge... Using only 3* toons, it can be found Here - I would be willing to argue that with the point changes, you could employ any of the teams we were trying out based on who's boosted for the week, and since points are roughly 50% higher now, you could probably hit the 1300 progression with the same number of shields & hops that we were doing...
Lastly, I agree with everyone who has mentioned out of game communication being the key to success in high end pvp... It really makes the difference in scoring higher...0 -

As I stated in another part of the forum, this is wrong. D3 gave out free 20 man alliances because no alliance should have an advantage over another. Yet, here is another advantage Walmart alliances have over small "ma and pa" alliances."There's no secret club. If there is, it's quite poorly kept! There is a large network of players on LINE. Alliance activity and coordination matters. Spending time acquiring targets matters. In Season 16, the first 5 events I averaged 1150. Not bad, but it was pretty rough. I made a few new connections, changed slices and stayed in that slice for the last 5 events, and averaged 1400 with less effort. That's a big difference!
If you are thinking that bolded part is absolute **** raisnbman, then you are absolutely right. Imagine if you are some guy trying to play this game and don't frequent the forums, according to this guy your progress will be prohibited because you are not in the "club" of forum goers in the Walmart alliances. The system is broken when considering this.raisinbman wrote:... What are your experiences with PVP?
Well, I hope I've answered this above? Get connected to the wider game....
Getting "connected" to the inside elite shouldn't ever give an advantage like this in any game. Remember what this person said, this is how MPQ is right now thanks to large Walmart alliances.
In my experience, you just have to play during "unshielding" periods and in the first or last slice. Push between 8 hour/3 hour periods before the event ends. You can use all those Walmart alliances to jump off of regardless of being in their inside club. Tell others in your alliances when you find great queues too (when you are in the same time slice), it will help them push forward.0 -

And like I said earlier, since I stream everything I doubt anyone would welcome me to show their privileged information, so I'll just have to figure it out...0 -

It's not absolutely necessary, but it does make things a lot easier. You can also run alone with some patience and willingness to skip - I avoid the battlechats as I like to see what teams people are running anyway and am too lazy to track them down.
Just be polite and queue your targets early instead of jumping on immediately - you'll find they're worth more anyway after. There have been many occasions when a 40pt queue ends up being worth 70 points when I get round to my hop long after they finish theirs and are safely shielded. They're happier, I'm happier, and we don't even need to talk to each other. /antisocial hermit0 -
What tinykitty said.
Also, Dauthi, by your classification, what kind of alliance is DjangoUnbuffed? S.H.I.E.L.D? Ace of Blades? Chaos League? These alliances lack junior teams, at least active ones: DjangoRebuffed exists but it never ranks and is truly for retired people. But they still employ outside communication, and not just out of competitiveness either. Are we 'mom and pop' or 'Walmart' alliances?
In Django itself, there are players that never use chats for PvP, but still hit 1000-1300 progressions when interested. Not all of them have strong 4* rosters either. Using those secret elite Fight Club chats is helpful but not necessary for progression. As for placement, one usually wants the best queues available and here, chats do help, but progression easily beats placement now when concerning 4* covers.
Using outside communication (namely, software designed to make communication easy and instantaneous) is a choice to make one's game experience better, not a cheap trick that is somehow unavailable to those who refuse to use it.
In online shooters like Team Fortress 2, or MMORPGs like Dota 2, using specialized software like Mumble or Teamspeak for real-time communication helps to achieve better teamwork, and competitive events do not ban the use of external software. Why should they, when it's a choice for quality of life, not an unfair attempt to modify the very game itself?0 -
I think only with at least 75% of the characters of 3 stars maximized can manage to get the 1000 points. After using a shield for 5 hours and win two fights I lost at least 7. And in all PVP event this happens. To date only managed to reach 1000 points only once. I find it very unfair to have to compete against multiple players that have multiple characters of 4 stars maximized. 375 HP tossed in the trash today. Sorry my poor english.0

I don't have any 4* characters leveled yet, but I have a pretty decent roster of 3* people. I hit 1k in 7 events last season. It can be annoying and nerve-wracking, but it's certainly very in the realm of possibility.0
