They should have tried to manage expectations a little better. I guess I'll do that on my own next time. Expect less.

IceIX made a pretty good point over in general.. Not everyone can complete this in 30 minutes like many of us did.. plus it is re-playable for thousands of iso and a few hundred HP.

They also want to make sure that after the movie launch (07/17) that all the new players have time to start, and get rosters built that have a chance at him.

Don't look a gift 4* in the itty bitty mouth!

I don't disagree with any of that actually. And I do think it's a great way to get a new character out to lots of people. It's just the expectation setting failure. But part of that is on me for expecting more. I saw 30 day event and thought, wow! It was fun, but it was a v small event in the scheme of things.

Who are you guys using for the final wave? I am getting destroyed trying to carry ant-man through it.

xf, rogers. Let antman play meatshield.

No plans at current but it's possible. Definitely want to see how the playerbase takes to this particular one first before we decide on an encore or changing it up with another character or what have you.

Please do! I'd love to see this as a monthly (or weekly icon_e_biggrin.gif) with other 4*s.

I went with Steve Rogers and Hood - my go-to team for these long waves. Once you get a couple of Peacemakers down on the field, you basically stop taking damage. I also found pretty decent utility out of the 70 Ant-Man, nullifying opponent strike/attacks and generating some strikes/attacks of his own. Hood there just to get the AP a little bit faster and getting Cap's shield to return faster.

My normal go to team for survival nodes is xf, rogers, obw. In the last node, I left obw off the team, bc her health was too low to survive for long. But yes, the key is to keep matching blues to launch peacemaker and get those protect tiles on board.

I used xf to soak up damage, and collected yellows to promptly heal him back up. Hood is okay if there are right colors on the board. xf gives you green, and therefore a rainbow team w/ antman/rogers.

I really like this approach, because 30 days is more than enough time for 2* players to luck their way past the last node. icon_twisted.gif

Okay, in all seriousness I totally understand how players with a smaller roster would have trouble with this event. You absolutely have to build a strategy around antman. Do you bring meatshields to protect him while collecting aps to trigger his power? Or do you use antman as the meatshield and down the opponents via another means.

Or do you throw in the towel and pray for covers from events and/or vaults to get the characters to put up a better fight in node 5?

    Oh the possibilities! icon_mrgreen.gif
  • The final node was a walk in the park with CMags/XF. Make sure you kill the hero in each wave and build up AP while you take your time with the goons. The only exception to this rule was Kishu who went down even before Daken. CMag's blue and XF's black did all the work here.

    3) To give players that just start the game after seeing the movie to get rosters strong enough to get an Ant-Man cover

Funny. Or do these scale to your level? If not, I think you'll need more than a month to get a team capable of clearing quad Deadpool. Don't get me wrong, i loved it. Still, at a year in, my teams were badly damaged on the 4 round survival, and Antman was my only survivor on the 5.

I went in with a level 166 Daredevil and 166 Blade with the loaner character Ant-Man. I used Mohawk Storm blackflag.png team up.

Billy Club and Keep Your Enemies Closer, along with Nightstalker got me through the 5 nodes.
  • Anyone got that "Just when I think I'm out..." meme handy?

Was just lamenting where I am with MPQ these days, enjoying another title and devoting substantially more time, effort, and well, you know, to it...

And then I open this thread. It's like I'm reading a foolish dream I had about MPQ long ago, only it's happening in real life?

Perhaps it's time to go beyond DDQ again, assuming I can scrounge enough for another roster slot... icon_rolleyes.gificon_e_wink.gificon_lol.gif

The event went by so fast for me personally. Kept clearing one node after another like a freight train. LOL Then I finish wave 5 in the last node, and I'm thinking, "That's it???" icon_eek.gif

I totally understand the rationale for making this 30 days. I think newcomers who start playing mpq after watching antman movie would be a major source of sales for cover packs and slots. the antman cover prize is a big carrot for these guys, and the work involved for d3 to put this event together is quite minimal. So I think this is a win-win situation for everyone.

If GI was to stretch out longer to get the pink cover, then it would mess up w/ player participation in enemy of the state event, and the versus events as well. Now, with 30 days to clear 5 nodes, players can finish it at their leisure, or wait to obtain characters to beat the survivor nodes.
  • Definitely a thumbs up to the devs for the "free" cover, but I think it would make more sense to have the Ant-Man cover as the final reward for his pve. Something similar to the 3* cover which is the 800 reward in pvps. Now, don't get me wrong, I am still grateful, but it feels weird to have a second event for the same character at the same time when the reward is a single cover. That said, I hope they do it again, but I think Ant-Man was an exception because his movie is coming out next week.

I definitely understand the rationale, and am not unhappy with getting 2400iso/50hp/Antman for <30 minutes work.

I was kinda hoping to see one of each cover offered, even if it meant Ultron-Loki-SheHulk at the end of it. So that part is a bit underwhelming.

I think all character introductions should have this format. They get a 5 node mini-story. 3 of the nodes have 25 HP rewards. You get a cover at the end.

This was awesome! Thanks D3. 73 roster slots and counting...

Ant-man + Thing + Carnage is going to be a tough team.

The Event is exactly what you're looking at, nothing hiding behind refreshes or anything. 30 days to grab an Ant-Man cover, 1500/2000 Iso a node, and a few nodes with HP prizes.
This is the best event you guys have ever done, and I'm not exaggerating. It's what the gauntlet wanted to be, but turned into a horrible slog. This event is perfect. Please don't listen to the people who complain that it is too short. As you know at least a few people will complain about literally anything you do.

I love it. More events like this, please. If you started giving out each new 3* or 4* this way, it would go a LONG way toward fixing the game.

Also I LOVE the target of new players with this one. Thank you for throwing a bone to the people who aren't sitting on a full 166 / 4* roster.

I actually agree with this. Was dissapointed because I expected more from the 30 day event announcement, but now that I'll know what to expect, it is a good way to get the new character into people's hands.
While also eventually getting people to pay real money for HP. Honestly, I've been on this game since month 1 & had not spent any real money until about 3 weeks ago when I needed to buy HP for roster slots. And honestly, roster slots are pretty much the only thing in this game that I will spend money on. I could see that becoming something that will cause me to spend real money in this game because when I get a new character cover for a character I really want from a strategic standpoint, I would rather pay money than lose the cover through sale or timeout.

Well, that was a little anti-climatic, but the Ant-Man cover is very much appreciated. And I did enjoy the fights, it'll be nice to have the time to go back and get the HP and ISO from the nodes.

For reference, here's the characters to expect in the wave nodes. Knowing who to expect really helped me pick a team for the last wave node, which took me a couple of tries to defeat.

Inner Space Cadet: wave node - 4 Waves
    • wave 1: Deadpool, Yelena Belova, Black Widow (1*)
    • wave 2: Moonstone, Captain Marvel (2*), Deadpool
    • wave 3: Ragnarok, Thor (3*), Deadpool
    • wave 4: Devil Dino, Squirrel Girl, Deadpool

Big Things One Day Come: wave node - 5 waves
    • wave 1: Daken (2*), Pyro, Kishu
    • wave 2: Brawler, Empiricist, Sentry
    • wave 3: Sentry Fighter, Lieutenant, Doctor Octopus
    • wave 4: Muscle, Teisatsu, Bullseye
    • wave 5: Grenadier, Hitman, Gorgon

I would suggest making this PVE a Prologue chapter for the reasons it's a 30-days event. Even better, create (at least) +10 missions, +2 Ant-man covers.

NEW PLAYERS WILL ONLY GET DISSAPOINTED OF A CHARACTER WITH ONLY ONE COVER=POWER!

Also disappointed, like Grumpy Smurf I thought we'd see three covers available - perhaps each as progressive points, so the 1* rosters can get one cover, the 2* can maybe get two, and the 3* can get three.

Three covers = all colors available, so folks can pay HP to get more covers. Season rewards used to run the three covers in a row - I assume in part so this was possible? (Ah, for the days when a 3* was only introduced once every three seasons.)

What I take from this is they are selling more HP for roster slots then they are for covers. Hence, release characters in this fashion so everyone MUST buy the next roster slot (and make him essential right away, of course). But no reason to release more covers, since folks won't buy more covers.

The other thing to take from it is that more Whales are buying more 42 packs (or whatever) than covers are being sold in dollar amounts. Don't give out covers, whales will buy packs. Do give out covers, whales will only buy covers...and that doesn't make you as much money.

I took a screen-shot and threw it in alliance chat, joking about how the last page of my roster is filled with 1*'s that are worthless outside of DDQ, 2*'s that are worthless outside of DDQ and occasional essentials....and 4*'s that are worthless except as weak essentials, and they'll continue to be worthless for a year or more (500ish days now). Not just new players that get fed up with 4*'s that will sit on roster with a couple of covers for years to come.

HB was a fun event because you could earn all three covers (well, if the points had been set right....), and you could buy tokens with a high pull rate. I spent money shortly after the event - because I could finish off HB! Imagine that, you get people close but not all the way there and it encourages spending....

If Ant-Man had 3x the points needed for the 2nd cover, and 9x (exponential growth, go ant man!) the points needed for the third cover....the nodes were repeatable only once a day, so if you could beat them all you would need 13 days, but if you could only beat a few you could still maybe get the 2nd cover....if it had 4% drop tokens at 50HP once a day, I'd buy one of those every single day for thirty days.

Instead, I have an empty event that I have to look at but not play for 29 days. Maybe make a "hide" or "dismiss" tab for events?
