**** Professor X (Charles Xavier) ****

Still think IF can pull it off, especially if you have enough for 2 casts. MNMag can make one crit, but probably not 2. BWGS ability is still expensive and pretty much drains the green from the board so you can't use it easily again afterwards.0

But, if you score enough purple, you can get enough to use it again and score 6 more green AP hopefully between that and first time you have 19 at that point.0 -
Personally, I still think his purple is a tad overpowered on offense, but people won't realize it until they 1. Level Prof X up and 2. Start using it and realize that they're triggering the passive 2 turns out of 3. Also, if he's your last guy he's a contender as long as you can keep at least one strike tile out. Ironically, having his protect tiles be generated first weakens the offense of Purple. His yellow seems a little weak considering the average ability costs about 8-9 AP.0

So 3 Pink matches and it's 4k damage to all... If GSBW was more prevalent there would probably be a nerf. Wouldn't be surprised it her ability got changed similar to MNMags, eg: place 4 green and 4 red tiles are randomly generated.0 -
I think IF and Mystique still has potential, even post nerfs. As long as IF isn't in front, you'll get blue or purple back from Master Plan, which fuels either Infiltrate or IF's purple, both of which drop a lot of black for match-5s. Then it's just a matter of juggling the order of powers, when to purge some black with Masterstroke and when to just nuke away with IF. There's also the question of if The Prof's yellow will **** the board up too much, and if it's worth dropping red strike tiles with IF's green. Neither color swap skill with overwrite special tiles, so too much junk on the board could become a problem over time. Still, with 5k per Master Plan plus the other two firing attacks of opportunity along with all those cascades, "over time" might just become over fast.
I do think it's pretty strange though that maximizing the value of a 4* basically comes down to making him into a 'roided up version of 2* Hawkeye. Weird.0 -
Even with Mystiques's slight nerf, she is still an automatic pairing with Xavier if you opt for 5 blue. And yes, IF and Mystique I do beleive are the way to go now with the combo, it's more random, but IF can easily get enough purple to fire off 7 black which should be enough to trigger a cascade.
The only way to abuse yellow is to have low cost skills and since the cheapest is 5AP except for Devil Dino, or unless you grab Star Lord, spamming this seems to be really hard. In the end I really think 5/3/5 is the way to go, purple just seems to have too many clauses
A.) you need Purple AP
B.) invisible tile has to exist
C.) you have to have Xavier make the match
D.) you have to have special tiles out
E.) Xforce, CMags, IF, Hood, Hulk, Mystique, Cyclops, Doom, and all the other cascader's need to leave tiles alone
But trying to max out yellow requires 5 purple, which requires Xavier to be making lots of matches which means he has to be always the strongest blue, purple and yellow guy on the field, in terms of 4*' X-Force, and Devil Dino are the only ones that would let him match all 3 colors. I am not kidding though that if you go that route, Devil Dino becomes very strong0 -
Despite the nerfs to Magstique, I still think this will be possible, but it will just be slower to start.

Yeah, people are having strong emotional reactions, but all of the nerfs are actually decently justified. The only question is if Thor was nerfed too much or not. She's still stronger than any 3*.
And yes, the combo will still be strong. The main difference is you won't be able to win on turn 3 anymore, and will have to actually make moves inbetween. But feeding red for Magnetic Flux is not a bad deal, as that can generate up to 25 AP.0 -
Two more thoughts on this subject.
First is sort of a hybrid using a 5/3/5 Xavier with Star Lord and Iron Fist. You're going to want Star Lord's purple to be your strongest color, and probably boost one yellow (at least) just to get the ball rolling faster. Now all you need is two yellow matches and two purple matches. Drop in Star Bieber's yellow followed by two 3 cost IF purples. That should give you a nice fat cascade with hopefully a couple match-5s. Master Plan's returning purple, which is good, but you've probably picked up 12 black by now and you don't have any way to get rid of it, so the IF cascade machine is done. Now you can either use whatever purple you get to nuke with IF or, if the board's showing a decent amount of blue, have The Prof go incognito (which only costs 5 if your yellow countdown is still out) and start buffing your special tiles. You've already fired three powers so there should still be a few out there even after the cascades. Hopefully all that puts you in good enough position to clean up with attack/strike tiles and match damage, IF's green and purple, and maybe even an Oldest Trick.
Second is 3/5/5 Xavier as turbo-Falcon, paired with some combination of Daken, Psylocke, and 2* Wolvie. Not sure exactly which would work the best. I want to say Psylocke/Daken, but the other pairings have potential as well. Then it's just a matter of spamming fast powers, getting The Prof invis, and buffing tiles. There is the issue of levels though, because Daken will tank purple and both he and Betsy will tank blue (and I suppose AWolvie could tank yellow), which is problematic since you need Xavier matching colors while invis for his buff to work. This one really seems like too many moving parts, but it's the only way I can think of to make good use out of his purple consistently.0 -
That video was fun but we will get to do that in about....2 years.0

Rag / Mystique / MMags were not deserving of nerfs. If anything they needed tweaks (changing colors around being the easiest solution) or buffs. They could have at least given Mystique and Mags targeted CD tiles to compensate. Knee jerk reactions to new character releases is terrible game design.
*I stand by my statement that the Hood's yellow was massively nerfed in response to the impending release of 4hor. He's significantly weaker PvE than he was before.0 -

Totally agree, sad part is Ragnarok is considered to be "buffed" by D3....what a joke!0 -

I think the nail in the coffin is when Ragnarok killed himself letting me win the node.
Like.....did anyone think about this at ALL? He gives his enemies charge tiles, has a s**t green, kills himself, hogs green and blue from actual useful abilities.
I can't fathom what's going on besides Moonstone eventually being the only usable character.
I've said it before but it's sad ragnarok being "buffed" as an enemy is the best part of this patch0 -
This is the wrong thread, but part of Rag's buff is that we can take him to 166 now instead of 140.0
-
Wow!! 13 pages and he releases today!
The feels are strong with Chuck.
But ooooh, so close to the 3-passive character I WANTS IT SOOO, YES IT DOES.
By the way, just thought of it. It's a Pactive Ability!0 -
Just was curious if anyone has drawn him. I looked and his acquisition is set at 0.4 and was wondering. I don't trust the developers and I'm sure a big release like prof x their looking for lots of cash flow. Curious if anyone's been "lucky".0

Not sure if it's supposed to work that way, but I noticed that the passive part of his purple skill (where if you have an invisiblity tile out you upgrade special tiles when Professor X makes a match) triggers after attack tiles. So for example if you have his invisiblity tile out and you have some attack tiles, after you make a match-3 with Prof. X, ending your turn, your attack tiles trigger, and only after that do your special tiles get upgraded. Shouldn't it be upgrade first before attack tiles trigger, so you benefit from the upgraded attack tiles for the current turn? That's how Falcon's Inspiration works so this is kind of weird.0

Currently, my favorite thing about Prof X being in this game now... is imagining him, with or without chair, getting thrown by Colossus.0

Wow if that is true this is another huge nerf for Prof X. I guess it could be seen as a balance since PX can boost tiles by matching 3 or more colors and Falcon can only boost with a yellow match but this design decision does seem weird.0
