Both will work, tho dying seems to drop the levels faster than retreating (per battle) so it might be "amount of hp lost" related. The actual math is likely very complicated.

If the enemies are already all 230s you'll likely have to tank a TON to drop them, like having your entire roster dying a few times.

I'm on my 4th rotation of killing off my entire roster (I own every character) and the enemies are just beginning to drop in level. It's not exactly "ideal".
  • Well it looks like with the new patch people have stopped playing the event. I've done less than 1.5 iterations in my sub-bracket but I still lead by 400 points (representing a 33% increase over second place)

Edit - And I lead in my main bracket by close to 2k points despite only doing 1.5 iterations in it as well

It is faster than retreating, but retreating gives you the benefit of having non-dead characters, which will get their health up faster and let you tank again. If you can't do it multiple times before your next refresh, let them die, but if you think you can fit in multiple downs, retreating works better, imo.

I've certainly been up & down with this event, but just limped my way to the 20k Patch - overall conclusion: Thick as Thieves was just horrible, and I hope we don't see an event like this again. icon_e_sad.gif
Nothing against the design (I don't think anyway - hard to tell, beyond that 3 rapid blue-yellow henchmen together does not = fun), but the scaling mechanic was utterly joyless.

I think one of the maps (3rd I think) was actually fairly fun, but the rest of them were really quite appalling - doubly so when the buffed characters were rebalanced/bug-fixed, since their preposterous efficiency up to then were apparently the only thing making missions tolerable.
Seriously; if this was rerun with Captain America, IM40, Hulk, etc. it would have been straight-up impossible - buffing the most rabid strike tile generators and the healer/countdown-extender/sapper Black Widow is the only reason this event was playable.

I tip my hat to any new players who had this as their first PvE event and a] kept playing b] achieved anything in it, because if I'd had this instead of The Hunt: Punisher then I don't believe I would have stayed more than a weekend. icon_e_geek.gif

Customer feedback #1: Please don't run this Thick as Thieves again.
Customer feedback #2: Please don't use this NPC levelling mechanic again.
Customer feedback #3: Do please run another version of Thick as Thieves in the future, as I want to see the story but am not prepared to sacrifice my evening murdering my entire roster 3-by-3 to see it piece by piece. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Seconded! I really hope this is run again soon-ish with a better leveling mechanic in place, because I do want to see the story.
  • For the first time i able reach the number 1 spot in main bracket... hehe not to brag about it but hopefully i am able to hold my place to earn as least a xforce wolverine cover xD
you know... the "must catch them all" thingy icon_mrgreen.gif
but 2nd to me still can catch to me so i doubt i can hold that long as most my mission already grind left 1 point only icon_neutral.gif
  • How are new players competing in this? The 2nd player in my bracket has a roster of level 1-20 characters and he's completed most of the missions it seems. None of the mobs are lower than level 40s no matter how many times I die to them, and the last mission is level 100+. How is a guy with level 20 characters clearing all this?

Just need to die a bit more. After spending the last 1.5 days killing my entire roster over and over again, I've found that lvl 17 is the floor for mob levels. For the last missions I've dropped them to lvl 32 lowest, but they shoot back up very fast as soon as you win any mission.

Another poster mentioned something about it being a late entrant facing super low level foes but unless they have no difficulty scaling I think it's ****.
I entered my bracket a couple hours after the even first kicked off and the guy in 1st has mostly 1*s and some unlevelled 2*s.

I'm thinking there is a lot of PC "training" that's been talked about in a couple of other threads.

If you're lower level, the mobs must be lower for you. My guys really aren't that high and mine are always level 230
  • I have been able to beat the Maggia goon missions with 66 Patch 60 OBW and 56 Spidey. But it's like walking on eggshells. One wrong move could spell disaster. The goons build blue AP so that helps get Spideys stun going thanks to Widow. The main problem is they also use Yellows as countdowns, so I've went to go stun with no Yellow tiles available. Spidey and OBW work surprisingly well together against the Maggia though, despite using the same colors.

    Still hate this event though.

That is what annoys me the most. To beat these levels, it's not the skill of the player or the actual character in the game, it ALL comes down to the luck of the board; and that's really really really annoying.
  • Since Thor red skill been nerf i am unable to denied any pistol yellow tie skill of the Maggie
But with the combo from OBW/Spiderman/Patch i can clear almost all the lv230 mission multiple time with luck and focus... one wrong move = disaster...
When you notice they collect enough to activate a skill or countdown is inevitable i let my Patch to tank the damage... while he heal back i will let spidey or OBW take over the incoming damage and lock any AI that seen threat to activate the skill... then when i have the chance i will heal back full from spidey yellow skill... the worst mission i did so far is Rag/Daken/Moonstone combo and 3 Maggie with the tommygun skill which straight kill your whole team... literally if they got a strike tile cast on the board already when tommygun blue tile go off icon_neutral.gif
  • Maybe some of those low level guys aren't trying to compete in every bracket so they never got their enemy levels up to ridiculous numbers.

The goon fights are easy. Just retreat before any damage ability resolves. You get 4 shots at beating it. Since they only attack via countdown it's actually very safe to fight them even if everyone on your team started with exactly 1 HP. On your winning board you can have OBW or Spiderman heal you back up. It's easier with Spiderman but OBW can do it too (just make sure you clear all the CD tiles first).
  • Question about pve, are the rewards in various subs traditionally the same every time like they are in this one? I'd love to see some variety in the rewards.
  • People need to lay off on the accusing everyone of hacking now that they can see rosters. In this event I've been fighting lv17-40 mobs pretty much the entire time so any starter one star team can do that just fine. You don't have to hack to do well in this event with low level guys.

Pistols is last in priority as long as there are Hitman or Muscle on the board and should rarely be seen. Threaten and Covering Fire by itself does trivial/no damage (though in conjunction is nasty, but Threaten generally has priority over Covering Fire anyway). An all thug lineup is actually pretty hard to stop, but you can actually survive a hit from a thug too unlike Sniper Rifle/Tommy Gun.
  • but overall i never aim for all the countdown tile... when there is 4 match available i will match it and it will always end up cascade the board which eventually clear the countdown tile accidentally icon_razz.gif

Interesting, so the top 4 or so right now have what look to be late 1* into early 2* rosters. I think I'm going to start grinding main event to first every 8 hours from now on. Should be able to get 1st if I'm awake for my 5th green x-force wolvie, and then i can not care about that cover anymore.

Tintykitty this event in the tinykitty tinykitty.

So we arrived at a stage where players have to kill off their complete roster over and over to be able to even play? I run a 4/3/4 patched Patchy at lvl 60, a 5/4/4 Grey Widow at lvl 100 and a 3/5/2 Spidey at lvl 92. I am getting **** in the ear. And then I look at top 10 of my bracket and see people with way over 30K points and a team of lvl -17 Classic Hawkeye with untied shoelaces and a lollypop, a lvl 3 Yelena with a a Dolly Doll and a IM Model 8 with side wheels. What utter tinykitty. Took the fun right out of playing.
