sucks i thought this was going to start Tuesday but signs are pointing towards NOPE

hopefully this does not replace the normal everyday PVE

What signs? They mentioned R71 in the interview, and based on their update schedule, that should be hitting on Monday/Tuesday
  • From the blurb it sounds like the first essential character is going to be Cyclops so it better not start until after Iso 8 Brotherhood is over if this is the case.

The survival nodes are harder than people think. Just because there is exactly 1 guy at most on each enemy wave in Enemy of the State that can move the board doesn't mean this is always going to be the case elsewhere.
  • They will make sure to "gain" something out of the daily PvEs. So the last survival node will be nearly impossible to clear, you'll have to use boosts and health packs.

The scaling was so high in Enemy of the State for the bugged node, that I had to give up on it.

Looking at it economically, they are giving everyone the chance to gain something they value at 1250 HP. There will be people who wouldn't spend that on a cover, but would spend 200 HP on health packs in an attempt to gain the cover.

I see this as a way of encouraging additional regular spending of HP where people are currently hoarding it for roster slots and shields.

(Of course, if you spread out your play during the day, you'd have time to heal up between nodes.)

One question, the qualification for the 3* cover part of the quest is just having that 3* already? It's not already having a cover for that 3* of that colour?

Sometimes these things are ambiguous and we're surprised at how they're implemented.

So, just to be completely and utterly clear, if I have a 5/0/5 Hood, and the first event is Hood blue, I am not locked out?

Economically speaking, this is to keep people playing longer in an effort to extend the life of the game. Mobile apps have a notoriously short lifespan with the rare exception (e.g. Clash of Clans), and getting the "1%ers" to continue to spend money on a game without anyone else playing it is untenable in the long run. The biggest complaint players have about this game is the difficulty of the star.pngstar.png to star.pngstar.pngstar.png transition. If enough of those players "stuck" in this phase quit, the game dies because enough people stop playing it makes it no fun for the high spenders. they will move to another game.

That being said, I'm sure many players will spend $10 on a "critical" cover of a star.pngstar.pngstar.png character they own (e.g. icon_hood.pngblueflag.png ), therefore, if they get a couple of blues from this kind event, there is a much higher likelihood of someone taking the plunge and spending real money to make that character actually useful and improve their chances at being competitive. I know I would spend $50-$100 to finish off a few characters to start being more competitive in PvP with my Alliance. I would never spend $100 for 42 covers because statistically you are very unlikely to get anything useful. It's unfortunate, because I spent a good $400 on Brave Frontier a year ago because the cost:benefit ratio was high with summoning units, unlike in this game.

TL;DR this is a long-term economic move to appeal to players who otherwise wouldn't spend money, thus making the game more enjoyable for everyone!
  • This is fantastic news. The 2*-3* transitioner's dream. I understand that just giving covers away is out of the question, but please don't overwhelm us with survival mode scaling. Some of us will still try to fill our covers with pve and pvp wins. So having our 2* roster dead and all health packs gone trying to win that desired cover will destroy our pve scoring. Which in turn, will make us suffer by not being able to achieve progression scores with cover rewards.

That logic leads me to believe "Z" is beyond the 3* award. Maybe some crazy ISO boost behind the Survival level? Or maybe the Survival level is never ending and just piles on ISO until you die? That would be crazy.

The devs did get a kick out of how much people enjoyed the bugged Black Hole node. I bet it is some kind of endless survival with scaling ISO rewards.

If this is the case, then I see no reason a 2* player can't do it. Just using OBW+Ares+3rd and keep healing while you're killing. Max OBW+Ares should be able to go through a lot of enemy waves , especially if they are goon waves. OBW heals and bumps up the CD tiles.

But I'm guessing quite a few 2* players make the same mistake I did. I saw how weak OBW was, so I didn't bother to level her. But I liked characters like Wolverine and Thor better, so I leveled them first. Had I actually known how powerful Ares+OBW really was I'd have leveled them much sooner.

Oh well, lesson learned the hard way is a lesson truly learned. icon_e_wink.gif

This is no joke. I had 5 maxed 2* before finally testing out the hype of OBW. What a difference it made in fighting lvl 130 goons with just lvl 94 characters.

This is really well thought out and greatly appreciated. I'm excited for myself to finish off some 3*s that have been eluding me, but I'm even more excited for my sister and mates who are well and truly stuck in 2* transition hell. Good job icon_mrgreen.gif

From how they described it, there's one or two nodes that require you to have the character that's being given away that day - one of which gives said cover away.

Man, am I ever on the happy happy joy joy train for this one! I can say without a hint of irony that this looks like it's being handled perfectly. Provided we don't get scaled out the wazoo, it sounds like a huge boon to everyone. All this and in a new game mode? Jeez, guys, can't a guy have something to complain about? icon_e_wink.gif

Oh and I just have to say that this quote:
There's no leaderboards, no placement rewards, no alliance rewards, no replay times and no points draining. It's just for you to play, by yourself, at your own pace. If you complete the whole event each day, it almost doesn't matter when the refresh time is.

Made me so excited I almost passed out. More of this thinking in the future, please!
  • To those afraid of the end rewards being hard to obtain:
    1) Enemy levels are pre-set, that suggests that it has nothing to do with your roster
    2) People are overestimating how quick this will let them get full covered 3*s.

There are 33 characters you can get (up to this day). If we theorize, that they will go through all characters and all covers once before any is repeated, that means 99 days. So worst case, you will get 3 covers for the same character every ~100 days.

This will help the gathering of covers, but not by the magnitude some people think it will.

What I would also be interested in:
    1) Are there any possible HP rewards?
    2) Around how much ISO we can expect to get if daily quest is fully completed (if there is an exact number, even better)

It would be absolutely awesome, if you would be able to actually choose the cover color you win, but that is something for future consideration.

Yes. I am 100% in favor of this improvement, I think it will be awesome, but let's keep our expectations in check lest they betray us once more. AT BEST you will still need over a year of daily quests to take a single cover character to fully-covered, assuming the covers you don't want are never repeated. Depending on the rotation schedule and what build you're going for, it may take nearly 2 years.

That said: it will take an infinite amount of time for the vast majority of players to cover-max a character with the current reward structure (I am not joking or exaggerating - please see my other threads), so this is still a vast, vast improvement.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I'm sure there will be the usual good and bad with this event, but better access to 3* covers is MUCH needed, especially in my case! With the new changes in PVP, I'm pretty much locked out of the Top 100 unless I can start maxing my 3* characters! THANK YOU! It may also allow me a break from the grind of PVP to get that 4K 10-pack. I've been feeling burnout settle in (BIG TIME), but this is a welcomed change!

What I want to know is who to the two sets of mystery legs on the bottom right belong to.

Set one: Bottom right between Daken and Torch. Set two between Torch and Luke Cage

I thought Deadpool, but he is bottom left. Spidey is Center and BagMan is top left, so it isn't them....

    Thoughts?

It's Deadpool. They thought it would be funny since the top half of him is on one side to put the bottom half on the other side. For once there is no great hint here just a joke.

set one is, as spccrain above mentioned, Deadpools legs. But the set in front of Luke Cage on the far right is Steve Rogers. Notice the blue leggings with a red stripe down the side, and the brown pouches on the belt. Also, Deadpool has a tactical holster with a side arm strapped to his thigh. The legs on the far right don't have that. It is, however, a perfect copy of Steve's position when throwing his shield.
  • The daily quest is probably there to put parity on PvE relative to PvP. Ignoring the effect of selling yourself out to the highest top 100 bidding alliance (this favors PvP obviously), you're probably expected around 1-3 covers in PvP every 2.5 days for a transition guy without spending too much on shields versus 1-2 per 5-7 days for PvE. Assuming it is possible to always win in the daily PvE, now you get 8-9 per 7 day in PvE versus 3-9 per 7.5 days in PvP so at least it looks roughly the same. It's probably still better for PvP after factoring in alliance stuff but the disparity is less compared to before.

The covers and whatever are nice, but almost incidental for me. I'm just all yay! for new, noncompetitive stuff to play and another go at survival nodes, they're still different and fun. icon_e_smile.gif
  • Yea, I am happy for the survival nodes returning. All in all looks like a great addition.
