The whole point of the gauntlet and the reason so many of us like the event so much is that you are NOT competing against other players. It's that you can play the event on your own schedule and at your own on your own pace. It's that it is an INDIVIDUAL challenge.

This is a horrible, horrible change and I sincerely hope you put the Gauntlet back the way it should be for the next run.
  • I understand why the devs allow ten lucky people get ten extra tokens. That's fine for them. I'm sure some people love competing against ridiculous odds and get a kick out of that. I'll take a shot at it, but won't expect much.

This seems unfair to people who are finishing up Rocket and Groot after the start of The Gauntlet. I need my healthpacks and my A-teams to grind up Rocket and Groot as it finishes. Thankfully I'm not top 2, but tonight's going to be rough on people with two or three (if you include PVP) events running at the same time.

Also, this is my first time doing The Gauntlet. Does it scale reasonably with your roster like most of the others, or is it more difficult for a weaker roster? It sounds like it's more difficult than the usual PvE, so I'm curious.

Scaling isn't too bad, the issue is that you will face many matches against Magneto and/or Storm. So you need a diverse roster to handle it if you are in 2* land.

The gauntlet is arguably the most difficult event in game but is balanced out because you (technically) only need to do each node once.

Scaling, especially later on can get quite ridiculous, and it can scale mid-event, so doing the harder nodes first is recommended.

This is the event I save my Deadpool whales for b/c there's literal impossible(AKA Luck or die) nodes, usually the last 5-7.

There's also multiple essential characters required.

The placement rewards are new(as you may have noticed from this thread) and are very, very unfair(worse than lightning round?). I guess they're hesitant to offer guaranteed 3* 10-packs to the general public.

this is my third gauntlet (day 101) havent finished one yet as it gets pretty sick near the last 6-10 nodes of the final sub.

just a note - save doing the essentials in a sub until you get all the way through the main branch. doing the essentials first will increase scaling on the balance of the main quest nodes.
at least thats what i have personally seen and had others comment on it in the forum. i had a main node jump 10 levels after running the three essentials.
  • So from this thread it seems that the deva have it correct, they offer a reward, people cry about how unfair it is then grind their **** off trying to get it.

    Well played sirs.

Although this changes nothing about how I'll play gauntlet, I like the reward and the possibilities that come with it. This makes the transition easier and one should not expect rewards like this to just be thrown around. Another time the devs have listened (the whole guaranteed 3* thing) and subsequently been crucified for it (waah waaah I won't get one)
  • IMO they are banking on the highly competitive nature of the whales to make a ton on Health Packs and +3 all boosts.... This could be the only logical reason for adding rewards to this... They could make a hell of a lot more if they made 100 person brackets with top 10 winning the 10 pack...

Honestly - they could make money PERIOD if they just offered these "guaranteed 3 star" packs like normal. Look at how trading card games work!!!! Right now, there's 40 characters that are 3* and up. (Assuming all characters will get a 3rd power) That means we need 520 covers to cover our characters. Let's just take a random number and say, okay you have 100 covers over a certain amount of characters. Okay, that means you still need 420 covers. Even if I get these guaranteed 10 packs, that's AT LEAST 42 "guaranteed packs" I would need to buy. So lets say those packs are 3800 HP. 3800 HP is roughly $20.00(assuming Stark Salary Exchange, 200 HP = $1). So if I spend $840(and am lucky), I'll have all the covers. Additionally, I'll probably need some ISO for them as well.

Keep in mind I hypothetically said you wouldn't get any cover dupes and that you'd get 4* covers by doing this. Also assuming you'll get 10-3* characters out of your packs(LOL!).

There's no real reason for them to be this stingy with 3* covers!

I hink people are also missing the fact that the 10 ppl who finish the first sub, get the cards, and unlock the second sub, which means they are likely to walk away with 3 packs of 10

Nope - second sub will go to people who skip the essentials on the first sub to get a faster start on the second one. Same might go for the third, but that one will probably also depend on buying health packs or lots of boosts.
  • T-minus 8 minutes (at least for my bracket), here we go. Gonna go all out, even though the 0.01% odds are ridiculous.
  • How many brackets will there be? If there's 10,000 per brackets im curious if it's worth waiting for 1 to fill and then enter.

Good luck to anyone and everyone who does this, but I could never do this....I can't even fully grind nodes to dust before a sub ends b/c fatigue takes over.

I just don't think its right to do this to players...there's a difference between a carrot on a stick and whatever the tinykitty this is.

I don't need a single one of those covers so I'll just be sitting this one out. WoW will get my free time this week.
  • Gave up at node 6 lol... enemy used a bird strike team-up and then two rocket countdowns downed my team icon_rolleyes.gif
  • I know I'm posting alot but just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else wanted to know: 42 packs and 10 packs(for $$$$) don't have increased chances for 3* characters like the top 10 prizes.

Also, if anyone encounters particularly hard nodes(especially last 5-10 nodes in the last subevent), please let us know what to Whale icon_e_smile.gif

Dont know what people are talking about STARTING AFTER THE PVE IS DONE.. my pve ends at midnight and my gauntlet started at 6pm

first 10 get a 10 pack rest of us get jack ****. just keep on trying to kill the game D3 more and more people are leaving daily. Got to love how you say most of the players are new YET the only people who can even get these 10 packs are major vets. Way to screw over the newbies once again

Blah event for me. I'm not a speed player so the pack is out of the question for me anyway and I already have Punisher at 5 green and Hood at 5 yellow. I only need whales but I've never completed a Gauntlet as those last nodes would just put a beat down on my roster.

Do the nodes / battles / gauntlets here SCALE? Like PvE? Or not at all?

    Thanks. icon_e_smile.gif

Holy mother of tinykitties I did it. Ninth place. Not going to try for the other two, I'm tapped out of health packs and don't want to pay out the rear for more. Plus I need to start thinking about dinner.

For those who will get into later brackets: X-Force/LThor/Blade. Boost red/yellow/green/black every fight, with an all boost when Hood or OBW comes calling. Aside from essentials there is only one fight that will force you to swap personnel, when you fight Blade in Simulation 12. Strike tiles let you kill with match damage, yellow into green gives you single-target and AOE nukes.
