I normally clear the gauntlet within a day but I'll be damned if I'm wasting ISO on easy matches or spending HP on health packs.
You mean their most competitive and loyal players who have most of the covers and dont actually need the 10 pack? Please, if the reward was like 10 star lord covers then sure you can complain. A 2500 iso 10 pack for the top .00001 % is obviously there just for fun and for the crazies who want to spend 1k hp in boosts for a 10 pack. This type of complaining just dorsnt make sense when you consider the event as a whole, and is a knee jerk reaction to what is clearlymeant to be a "just for fun" bonus from the devs. Would you rather they remove this and you be down an extra 100 iso and standard token?
Since this game seems to be on a decline recently we need to consider the opportunity cost of something 'for fun' versus something that might be actually useful. Obviously, this change is pretty much pointless and doesn't really harm anyone. Of course people way exaggerate this since finishing top 10 out of a bracket of 10000 is equivalent of #1 in 1000 which is something most people won't ever get close to. So why spend effort over something that's pointless compared to well, anything else? Okay, maybe it'd take more effort to come up with something else more meaningful, but I'd rather they do that rather than doing something that seems to serve no purpose in the game other than getting people to complain about it, and even if you can see past that and say, 'hey guys this doesn't really matter' , why do something that doesn't matter over something that does in terms of resource allocation?0 -

Your point would make more sense if this feature actually took a significant amount of development time to implement, but think about all of the components that went into this feature. Placement awards for Gauntlet? They already do those on every other single PvE. A heroic 10-pack that has to be made for the HP shop anyways? At most, this feature took like 5 minutes for the developer to add into the game, and 5 minutes for QA to test since it changes gauntlet to be exactly the same as a normal PvE. If anything, this 10 minutes that it took to implement this feature would have been worth it just because the developers who thought of it probably thought it would be a cool idea, and so their morale is now raised since they're implementing something fun and that would be well received by the masses since it is literally a bonus on top of the original event. Oh wait...0 -
Those packs will go to the 4* rosters and after they win they will run on here to complain about how unfair scaling is for weaker rosters.
Doesn't really bother me and it's hard to be bitter about them adding more rewards to the game.0 -
Does anyone remember if the optional nodes count for the final ranking?0

Yes they do0 -
I might try for the top ten in the first round, but people need to remember that all the points are the same so the top ten will be the first ten to finish. After that it's moot and we're back to a non-competitive event, which is why I like the Gauntlet in the first place.0

Development effort doesn't look like that. How much effort could it possibly have taken to put an AP banner on goons and then to remove it? Well that was the focus of one of the patches and it took several days to remove it after it was wildly despised. By that token it'd literally take 5 seconds to make some lowball changes to the game like say, change Ballistic Salvo from 20 AP to 15 AP. There's no way you'd even need to test this stuff other than making sure it really cost 15 AP instead of 20 AP, but it's certainly not being done. Since this is a game that clearly shows no sign of agility, we have to assume every change made to the game, no matter how small, probably took a considerable amount of time. There are well known studies that human do not multitask well even if it's something as trivial as 'add a placement reward', because if they're actually good at doing that someone should've multitasked and fixed a whole mess of characters that are extremely safe to fix correctly.0 -
I am usually not pessimistic, but this is a lottery, aka cash grab. People will try, spend HP, and fail.
Like NorthernPolarity said, the irony is that most people who win the 3* 10 pack wont even need it. Their rosters are probably already filled with all 3*s and 4*s with maxed covers at lvl 94-110.
Like other's have said, relax and pretend you didn't see the prizes.0 -
Between this and the Moonstone love, I think they're punking us.0

I'm just imagining how much fun they were having at the office when they decided to add the top 10 reward.
lol'ing uncontrollably at how frothy it was gonna make the forum.
You guys are so predictable.
Adding a speed run element that doesn't exist on any other format is cool. A more spread reward structure would be nice, but whatever. I can't speed run at 3pm on a saturday anyway, I've got things to do. Also, I have a 2* roster that has no chance.0 -
Scoreboards could be interesting this time around.Have the top ten finished? If so, what does their roster look like? Could be interesting...0
-
Meh. So mpq but some lagniappe in, and?
Assume you'll get a standard token of you finish the gauntlet (because that's what you're getting) and just enjoy gauntlet as usual.
If you think you can fly through gauntlet to get the 10 pack, please feel free to tiny kitty your scaling right before a new character release pve (probably heroic) for a nifty 10 pack of 2500 iso.0 -

You're describing two completely different cases.
Adding the AP banner to the goons costs development time to make the banner, insert it into the graphics pipeline, testing the flow of the game to make sure that the banner works in the first place since its brand new.
Balancing decisions are obviously different as well. As you can see from that ridiculous thread we had regarding 4or, people take balancing decisions extremely seriously. The development work that goes into changing 20 to 15 is trivial, but that's obviously not enough to make the character playable, so theres a ton of work that goes into deciding what the right values should be and testing out the feature balance wise. They obviously don't want to rush into balancing decisions because if it ends up not being enough, then they look bad.
This gauntlet change, on the other hand, is extremely low risk, and doesn't even add anything new to the game in terms of mechanics at all. Implementation wise, change gauntlet back to a normal PvE, input it's rewards. Balance testing? QA Testing? They don't have to do any of that: they already know that 10 10 packs to 10 / 1000 people isn't going to matter, so what do they need to test? There's no risk involved in any of this, and this feature is therefore trivial to implement, trivial to test, and extremely low risk. Something like "IM40 salvo 20->15 AP" requires days of getting everyone's approval, making sure that the balancing decision actually does something in the first place, being afraid of it not working out and leading to huge complaints, etc etc. Something like this is far easier to flip the switch than anything of the cases you're describing.0 -
If you're one of those players who feels "stuck" using a subset of your players, Gauntlet is a great opportunity to try out the rest of your B, C whatevever roster. Forget about the T10 placement and take ur time experimenting and see if you can find some new team makeups you can enjoy using. There are no alliance rewards or penalties for taking your time, refrain from boosting until you hit a real wall or get one of those "can only win with luck" type nodes.
This is one of the benefits for this event, no reason to try and spend ISO and HP for a sprint T10 finish for a 6 day event if you don't have a realistic shot at it. It's just an extra thing they added for the really competitive folks to go after. This event can really get frustrating and uber difficult in the last sub, no need to artificially increase scaling by crushing the early nodes unless you really want to be one of the top 10.0 -
The people winning the top 10 here are going to be the ones who either have unlimited cash to buy health packs or more realistically it will be the people who have a very deep roster with 3 or 4 viable teams. The idea being that by the time your 3rd/4th team is injured heavily, your 1st team should be ready to go again.
Characters like R&G, X-Force, Daken, and Patch will have tremendous value here due to their healing abilities.0 -
I'll probably make a dash for it, but I'm viewing the tokens for top 10 similar to the lightning rounds - there's a carrot to drive the competitive, while most of us are just playing for the iso.0

Well, hopefully they'll have some sense and make the Gauntlet easier instead of a series of near-impossible challenges after the halfway point.0

Unless you go into each match fully boosted, I doubt its very possible to make it into top 10.
Unless you have one of those PVE power rosters with max cover 3/4*s at low levels.0 -
Killinstinct wrote:donietsche wrote:Does anyone remember if the optional nodes count for the final ranking?
Yes they do
You can advance to the next stage without the optional, but to consider a round complete, you have to do all the nodes.0 -
For future iterations:
All the sub gauntlets need to be unlocked from the very beginning. Now you have to decide whether to run through it to unlock the second or to compete in the first. Whoever gets first in the third gets mad respect from me because he ran through the first, second and the third.0
