Yep that seems to be the situation. Granted there's the battle for an IW.
  • This issue will fix itself eventually because once you have all your 4 star cover there wouldn't be any particular incentive to even grind that high in the first place to put up a tank team. I understand why people do it. I just don't see how that can possibly be the intended usage of shields.

I agree, which is why having a grasp of player psychology is important. Players (in general) will do whatever rewards them the most for the least effort. As a system designer, you need to consider how you want players to play, then structure the system so it rewards the desired behavior.

For example, if attacking level 6s with level 100s didn't award points, do you think people would do so? Yes, actually, they would, if iso were still given as a reward. But the point is that you need to reward desired behaviors. The behavior isn't the problem, it is a symptom of the problem, which is a fouled up reward scheme.

And apologies if this is coming off as overly critical. I love the game. It keeps pulling me back every time my interest wanes. I hope this is coming off as constructive criticism, which is certainly the intent.

I am using 85 Ares/141 Hulk/141 Spiderman. Hulk is there for HP/sponge and spiderman to stun when needed. I haven't had much trouble so far this tournament. Only trouble I have had is unlucky streaks killing Ares when I get lazy with the stuns.

Yeah i don't think you're going to have much trouble with that team LOL

I think they need to nerf Spiderman and then cut down the rating requirements back to what they are, and put in some checks to make sure your shielding usage is sane (if not, make you more likely to appear to guys you're directly competing, and if you still don't mind helping your direct competitiors then go for it). Currently everyone with a Spiderman can basically play forever so they have to put these ridiculous requirements to slow you down. If you don't get hit by retalilations (and they go way down as long as you're above around 1000) you can probably hit 5000 rating in 3 days with just minimal coordination, and since Spiderman ensures all your guys are always 100% health the other guys don't even necessarily have to put a tank team, though of course it's easier if they do.
  • Onslaughting back and forth is hilarious and hella fun.

Harkens back to the days of old classic storm.
  • Well, I didn't see a single tank team...the entire way from 0-2450 or so. First in my bracket is 2609 I believe and I just don't know if I care enough to push beyond that.

I basically.just used boosts half the time. Not because it was necessary, but because it was already a chore. The bracketing at one or two sections was bad...but once you got into about 16000-1700 if was smooth sailing off 40-50 point wins as I started to see. When bracketing was bad it was awful. Would jump through the same 5-6 ppl for 3-4 min sometimes before a person above me finally popped up. Then once I hit about 1650 I started seeing 1800+ and then 2400 players. I boosted my ares to 68...with the boosts he is straight dominant. Teamed with mags and spidey (125 5/3/5 mag but only lvl 69 spidey but.it is 3/5/5..just don't wan to put.ISO.in nerf prospects until I know the outcome) the rounds were quite trivial. Mag helped do chunk damage with his purple and his blue was used a few times on turn one before a triple stun was used. Then just killing the lower hp characters first...then ares. My eyes were seriously blurring.at the end there.
  • I've started earlier today, and i joined a fresh bracket. After 2 matches i was on place 21. I've played until the hero points reward (500 if i remember corectly). I havent been attacked yet, and i'm at 8th place in my bracket.

The problem is that i actually desire Classic Storm blue cover. (5/4/3 now). That's from 46 to 75 place, but.. i have a feeling i'm doing a mistake by not trying to go for the 3Stars Wolverine, since i got lucky enough to be in what looks like an easier bracket (12h left tough, who knows how it will go). I wonder if i will have other chances to grab him.. but it would be just a 1/1/1 anyway, and i'm not a huge fan of Wolverine. He may be useless if i won't have other chances to grab covers for him, meanwhile Storm would be a ready to use.

I'd go for the 3 star, if you think you can get all 3. But monitor the event as the day progresses, if it starts getting more competitive, you can always drop yourself down in the pack by throwing up a bad team to draw attacks.

    This, without question.

There is some weird stuff going on with the matchmaking... some guy with 300 some points was able to hit me when I was around 2.2k. (He yielded though).

Your welcome icon_e_smile.gif Hit your tank team back later lol.

  • Honestly when your team is fully boosted (6 ap in whatever color you attack) it feels like the other team is a tank team anyway, so that's why I don't think it's some kind of horrible crime, but it's still definitely not right. You don't even need a very good start to knock out a character by turn 2 like that.

I really would prefer if we have fewer but more quality wins. I know when I need to push a rating I just boost all the way and most of the wins feels like pure garbage time when you go through a fully legit team as if they're Bagman.

Well I gotta say the tank teams really help someone like me, whose only running 50 Ares/57 Hulk/44 Doom get the rewards. This system really helps the middle players I say. Even with boosts real fights are tough for me ;/
also I don't have spidey leveled so there's that.

Hmm just wondering, what is considered a middle tier player now?
Someone with like 85 Thor/Wolv and trying to transition to 3 star?

Sounds about right. I need to get my 3* up to about 90/100 for them to start to shine heh icon_e_smile.gif

I put in Doom because I didn't want wolv/thor to use their skills on defense instead of Ares. I have too low leveled spidey.

Hmm I like your approach....I'm running Hulk/Ares/Magneto....not sure what the heck magneto does on defense...assuming he just plays like a complete **** and spams the worthless red skill screwing over ares

This. I'm running 48 Ares/78 OBW/69 Wolvie. I only saw two tank teams, either this morning or last night, I can't remember (thanks, Bughunt, whoever you are!). I saw mischiefmaker twice and quickly passed.

I'm shielded now, in 7th place in my bracket at just over 1200 points. I'm going to play for 1-2 hours this afternoon before throwing on a 3-hour shield for the end of the tourney (which falls on my commute). I'd like to get the Punisher cover at 1800 and crack the top 5 for all 3 Patch covers, but it's going to be tough. Right now 5th place is 400 points above me and 8th place is 400 points below me! icon_lol.gif

haha probably. I loved facing team with wolvies if they had a decently leveled Ares (or anyone else with strong green). I could use Ares' green without worrying, knowing wolvie would use it up. (If they had say Ares/thor/wolvie I could save up green to kill Ares, and as long as Thor doesn't get his ~14 ap wolvie would just start using the green which is overall less damage).

I love hulk for this tourney. And especially because mine is still a low level, MATCHES from the enemy Ares that do >250 damage or so would trigger anger lol.
