Oops, forgot to put up a tank team before shielding. It seems like east coast people are waking up, getting hit for every attack I pull off
Just in time to block an attack for 46! From someone I specifically passed on the last retaliation for, so they shouldn't have a dot0 -
400 down..2000 to go o.O ... Tired but I have to be up working. Luckily so far all the opponent's are laughable. Hopefully ppl still have their bags up by the time Unger there lol.0

To the people who have already been playing this... what's the average level of Ares(es?) around?
I'll join later tonight and push hard for top5, hoping in a weak bracket.
Mine is sitting at 53, not sure if I should pump him some more or finally cap OBW.
I bet Ares is godly in this tournament, but I dunno if he's gonna see much action outside of it. I've wanted to cap OBW like forever (stuck at 77), but first I had to put ISO into the Hulk for Smash Hits, and now this...0 -

53 is viable for a run at 2400, depending on where you are now points-wise and who the rest of your team is. I'm at 63 now and don't see a need to put too much more in him for this round. I may still push him a little higher, because for Round 2 of this event the average Ares level will probably rise due to the ongoing Hunt event. He is fun to play while boosted - 6 green for tons of damage is enjoyable. Plus, when the next Dark Avengers event rolls around, he'll be quite handy. So, I'm investing in the future.0 -

most ppl i met had 45-60 lvl ares0 -

I would say shield breaks after x number of attacks.
If they do that They'll also have to drastically reduce the price of the shields. Currently, the only reason they're worth it is because they protect you for that full time period.0 -

A lot of Ares are between 40 and 60. Have seen many lvl 85 Ares too, though. Mine hit lvl 72 today.0 -

I guess the idea behind it being players running weaker teams would have to spend more HP to keep the shields up.

Buffed Ares is a beast. So, I'm in the top ten in my bracket.
Quite often, I've got Yellow, Green, Red filled out for him at the same time. Then it's Red, Yellow, Green, Yellow Timer for a trio of instant kills.
Buffed Ares + Spidey seems to be just as effective as old Rags + BWGS for clearing the board.0 -

Buffed Ares in insane. When I first started, the red ability was enough to wipe out the whole team at lower levels. Once I get 15+ green gems it does like 10k damage. The yellow does about 5k, and red about 2k.
I am using 85 Ares/141 Hulk/141 Spiderman. Hulk is there for HP/sponge and spiderman to stun when needed. I haven't had much trouble so far this tournament. Only trouble I have had is unlucky streaks killing Ares when I get lazy with the stuns.
I thought about switching Hulk with the punisher, but haven't had a reason to add any more damage to my team.0 -
The increased progression reward isn't really a big deal because at the top you basically have about 3 opponents and it's likely all 3 are shielded. The rating needed could be 5000 and it's just a matter of time even if everyone is forced to field their best team. But there's something still really wrong with the way people are throwing up tank teams.
I'd imagine they'll put a change like if your team looks way too weak (as a function of level) relative to your competition while shielded then it is far less likely to show up as an opponent at some point, unless the guy is also in your bracket (you should take some risk for putting up a ridiculously bad team even shielded).0 -

I've started earlier today, and i joined a fresh bracket. After 2 matches i was on place 21. I've played until the hero points reward (500 if i remember corectly). I havent been attacked yet, and i'm at 8th place in my bracket.
The problem is that i actually desire Classic Storm blue cover. (5/4/3 now). That's from 46 to 75 place, but.. i have a feeling i'm doing a mistake by not trying to go for the 3Stars Wolverine, since i got lucky enough to be in what looks like an easier bracket (12h left tough, who knows how it will go). I wonder if i will have other chances to grab him.. but it would be just a 1/1/1 anyway, and i'm not a huge fan of Wolverine. He may be useless if i won't have other chances to grab covers for him, meanwhile Storm would be a ready to use.0 -

And I'm not going to apologize for it.
The matchmaking system has many flaws, which I don't think we need to go into here. We had broken characters (Ragnarok) for months that went unchecked. The shields were a great addition on a number of fronts (ability to reach higher progression rewards, stabilized tournament endings, giving players of various time zones a chance to compete, etc.) but now they keep pushing the rewards up because we were hitting them. I just ran to 2400. It is ridiculously tedious, even fighting scrub teams. It isn't fun, and doing so against actual opponents would be horrible. Truth be told, I kept hitting mmr bubbles and had to fight actual teams several different times to break out of them.
They said hitting progression rewards were community-based goals. Well, guess what, we're working together as a community. And until they put in a more sensible point system that doesn't penalize you for losses and gives points based on power differential rather than some, mostly-arbitrary point value, we will keep right on doing it.0
