I should have been more specific. If only I could break my run on anny tokens w/a USABLE 3*. D'oh.

Kind of hurts when the RNG consistently screws you out of the anniversary party, doesn't it?
Same here. I atleast had the luck to get one usable 3* in a sea of 2* Cap and Moonstone...

It really sucks b/c of all the hard work that went into getting the token. I mean, doesn't the system know I had to beat one whole match to get that token??? Computers are stupid...

Loroku, I just wanted to say that my experience and observations mirror your own.

This LR business has been nothing but meta from beginning to end for me. Managed top 10 (7-9) consistently using various methods but never top 5.

Glad to see it working for others; didn't work for me even though in the past, I have been able to snag the award for top 100 placement.

To be loroku is to suffer.
Lol, thanks for that, but honestly I'm not suffering. Like I said: PvP games are about chumming the sharks. I know it. I think I got excited about this game for a bit but I'm just gonna have to back off; the reward vs. effort is skewing way too much against me right now. Maybe in a bit when I've got a better 2* roster the game will open up. Or maybe I'll just hit another wall. icon_e_smile.gif

I think it's more accurate to say "to be in 2* land is to suffer."

Totally forgot about the last LR (my heart, just not in it) but I'll definitely attempt the "skip until you get something good" trick on this next one. I have been skipping at least 3 or 4 times anyway, but I'll try spending a bit of ISO and see how that goes.

For what it's worth, 2* Daken + Ares + 4* Thor has been my go-to team, yeah. It's a good combo and defensive enough that other 2*s leave me alone. (3*s see "level 55" and go CHOMP.)

Thanks for the kind words! This summarizes my sentiments exactly.

Update: forgot the last LR again, although I did have a nice 31-pointer queued up. Ah well. It's just not a big deal anymore; I feel like I've been trying too hard to "time" things (because that's the only way you can actually get rewards as a lowbie) and it's making the game less fun. Gonna just go back to not trying too hard. Looks like the "LR top 5 challenge" will end on a low note. icon_e_smile.gif

Edit: for those who care, I did one final LR and got top 20 again. So that was like, 0 for 13 or 14 or so. Glad others had good luck.
  • after some doubt and two colossal failures on my part, I tried the "last 10 minutes" strategy and it worked! Hopefully I can stay awake until lightning rounds stop happening and get my fair share xD

Before the new LR setup was announced here in the context of compensation, I saw no one consider LRs to be the highest point of Anniversary Week in any way aside from "yay, my primary Iso farm will be double-effective now." Literally no one who knew what LRs were remotely expected 20-person LR brackets. Ever.
I dunno about your alliance, but back last weekend when we first found out about double ISO, that's the main thing my alliance was talking about: farming the double ISO on the primary ISO farm.

I have to say that the LR was very easy for me. I got first everytime I played. Except for 2 times which I got second. So I got a lot more tokens that I could have.

I hope that it's the same for the other forummites.

So what happened to them keeping an eye on and rebalancing the 500 progression reward? So far I think I've seen one person say that two of their alliance-mates from a top alliance got the progression reward.... and that's all I've seen of anyone hitting 500 in those lightning rounds.

Don't get me wrong, the week was pretty good, and I'd call it a positive overall:

-The first set of events (Deadpool PVP and PVE) was pretty good.

-The second set (Combined Arms and Venom) was really no different than non-anniversary, save for the double ISO (which is really closer to what the rate should be all of the time in my opinion).

-The third set (Lightning Rounds) had great rewards for the top players because of the 20 man brackets and placement rewards. Practically nothing was gained from the 500 progression reward

So in regard to the third event either:

-It was going to be pretty "meh" with just a 500 progression reward that no one would get, and they added a nice set of placement rewards to make up for the previous token screw-up or,

-It was going to be great with the placement rewards, and they added a very "meh" progression reward to make up for the previous screw-up, which practically no one got.

Either way, it's nice that they gave us something, but the implementation and communication were sorely lacking in all regards, and issues raised by the community were not handled well. This failed to meet a lot of expectations.

And I'll ask it again. IceIX said they could change the progression reward if they needed to. Did they actually see players hitting that reward, or were those just empty words?
  • At first I was not happy about the 500 pt progression award as it seemed unattainable without extreme effort. Then I realized that I could place 1st with between 300 - 400 pts with only moderate effort and get 3 of them! I think I landed 8 first place wins and a couple top 5 i.e. I did extremely well every time I tried. That was approx 26 anniversary tokens for not a whole lot of work.

Would a few extra ones have been nice? Sure! However, I quickly realized the 20 person brackets were the real treat. They should have said that was the compensation because it meant 25% of the people who tried will get at least 1 good token. From what I saw, if you scored above 150 or so, you were top 5.

What happened to re-evaluating the 500 progression while it was running? It doesn't seem like more than just a few people managed to get this. Radio Silence has followed.

    - Surprised?

    - This too will pass.

    - Communication has improved......mostly.

We did look at it. And yes, people were hitting them every single LR. It most definitely wan't something that *lots* of people were reaching, but it was not uber rare.

Thanks for the reply, IceIX. As you can guess, I'd have preferred that it be lowered, but it's good to know it wasn't forgotten, and the communication is always appreciated.

I have to wonder how many of those players reached that score just by playing as opposed via shield-hopping+sentrybombing.

I'm betting that MOST of the players who hit 500 points started at the start, and actually played matches all 90 minutes. Considering how far I could get just farming the seed teams in about 30 minutes, another 60 minutes fighting how many other players who were just jumping in to get seeds or less, I don't think it sounds that unlikely. I never saw ANYONE in my brackets close to 500, but besides a few rounds I started earlier since I couldn't play near the end, I rarely started with more time than it took to crush the seed teams.

Shield hopping does not work to get to 500 in 1.5 hours in LR.

I did see some sentry, but very little. The reason is due to the number of fights needed and a lack of time for health packs to regenerate, you'd lose about at much HP or more than just buying the anniversary pack go 500 HP. I know someone in our alliance that made it to 500 at least once and close several other times. She actually uses various combos of characters in all events. When you take into account the number of ,20 person brackets there were probably 10-20 hitting 500 each LR in addition to the tokens given for t5 placement.

Also, as you probably know a lot of players were just waiting to close to the end to join deciding to spend less time for t5 then 2.5 hours to reach 500. So more could have done it, but they chose not to try BC t5 was so much easier.

I'm honestly surprised how many top 5 finishes I managed. I even squeaked out a #1 for a single round near the end. If I had a deeper roster, I can see how easy it would be for someone to push 500 points easily.
