The Gaunlet: Villains, Heroes, & Finale 20 - 23 Sep

Now that the mystery of the scaling has been solved (don't have a 4* at level 270) this event is perfectly fine as long as you don't have a level 270 character.
While I'm of the opinion you should be able to make the decision to play less on your own without external pressure, I do hope that if this event becomes popular D3 would take this as a cue and cut back on the heavy grinding nature of most PvE event in general.0 -

My current scaling in the simulations as I get to them. In the event of A/B/B levels, I am noting the most common.
2: 43
3: 55
4: 70
5: 88
6: 111
7: 115
8: 123
9: 126
10: 127
11: 127
12: 132
13: 129
14: 134 (Just want to point out that this is the PVP sim)
Essentials
1: 110
2: 105
3: 107
4: 119
5: 119
6: 115
My roster: 9x166s. Generally finish well in PVE, took top 10 in each sub and main for Deadpool. 23rd in the clusterkitten that gave out But I usually try to play smarter not harder and will wait a day or so and ride the rubberband since I am often able to beat nodes reliably enough.
2: 43X3
3: 55X3
4: 69 70 70
5: 88 89 88
6: 111 112 111
7: 140 141 140
8: 142 143 142
9: 148X3
10: 148 149 148
11: 150 151 150
12: 159 160 159
13: 159X3
14: 163 164 163
So it looks like having a level 270 character is responsible for +30 levels on the nonessentials and +20 levels on the essentials, and X Force most definitely doesn't fight like a level 256 3* (166+30X3 in additional enemy levels) to make up for the difference, which would explain why all my nodes felt pretty hard, not to mention X Force's probably not better than Punisher in this event.
If you're curious what your 166s are worth. I have 23 level 94s (10 2*, 11 3*, 2 4*), plus Bullseye and Daken at 78.
My nodes
2) 43 3) 55 4) 69.6 5) 83.6 6) 87 7) 88.3 8) 92
Essential 1) 78.6
That's as far as I've gotten so far0 -
Screw it I'm commenting here again. This has been outstanding. It feels like what the next big Story Mode should be. Tough, with the bosses being actual bosses, and solid rewards.0

Are there only 3 levels?0

The final sim #42. Consists of level 345 ( for me) 4 star wolvie, sentry, and obw.0

Not sure yet about to attempt final sim in the finale and will let you know if I am successful0 -
I can live with this if it is one - off but regular pve was how I really caught up because I grind for the, even with the rubberbanding.
If everyone gets the same covers, then we just have pvp which is dominated by the 166s and 270s. It's near impossible to get three individual covers from pvp when my strongest is 114. And in pvp, it's the rich that get richer, and the moons get left behind.0 -
Really digging the individual node awards on Gauntlet: Heroes - They seem to go to 500 iso/250 iso/token/crit boost starting with Sim#18. Pretty decent opportunity to get quick iso.0

I've been enjoying using this trio as well. I feel naked without my X-Force on the nodes i cant use him.
I am a sad panda with no viable X-Force.
For me right now Plan A is Punisher, BP, Thor. Plan B is Dr Doom, MNM, C.Storm. Plan C is Sentry Bomb.
So far Plan C has yet to fail, but takes time to recharge.0 -

Yeah nothing else opens up. That last node is a pain in the ****. Thought I had it won then obw kept healing herself and wore me down the first time.0 -
Phantron wrote:Lerysh wrote:Most assuredly. Fun games are not hardcore.
@Phantron: Would you prefer an event where all nodes are the same regardless of your roster level? I personally would not enjoy an event that was a cakewalk for progression rewards. The calculation of scaling per player may be broken, but the application of it to this event is not. If the nodes were indeed universal, and yet beatable by players in 2* land then every 3* roster would walk all over them.
You could argue that a mode called Gauntlet should be power tiered, you stop where you can no longer progress due to your roster, but if that were the case, the rewards would need to be overhauled so each tier of player is getting the rewards that benefit them. C.Storm needs to be attainable by those 2* players.
The idea of the event is fine. I think the implementation is horrible and yes it's largely influenced by the fact that I'm in the section that is most affected by it because I have exceptionally high initial scaling compared to everyone else. If the reward everyone get is static then the challenge should be static too, not harder for the guy who did well in the past. If this makes it too hard for players with weaker roster they need to restructure the rewards. The Simulator Basic hard bracket is hard to do for any underdeveloped roster and it's worth roughly double the points, and I don't see anyone complaining about an obvious mechanism that rewards player strength. I'm fine if player strength is not rewarded, but currently as implemented, you're punished for doing exceptionally well by high initial scaling.
But then again, the rewards suck (or more appropriately, are only good for 2* players and transitioning), so what do you and other top players care about the event? We've had longer periods without any PVE than 3 days, so just may understand that this event is not for you, or pretend there's no PVE right now and take a break. This issue isn't going to matter except for the very top PvE performers, but why would you even design a system where the better you're at something the more you get punished?
Because all other events are designed so that the better you are, the better rewards you get and the even better you become? For once, you are having some trouble getting a reward that people who usually (read 99% of the time) are steamrolled by the likes of you will have not so much trouble getting. It lasts three days, after which, we'll most likely go back to grindville and the status quo will be reinstated. How can you possibly begrudge them for revelling during this brief respite?0 -
Halfway through the first chapter... This is gonna be quite a challenge... and fun. No pressure, no grinding, just trying if I can beat all the nodes.0

You could have played regular PVE uncompetitevily.
However this gauntlet is basically the same thing, just less rewards, which is bad.
Actually, the rewards are better since you can get three 3* covers in progression as opposed to only one in previous PvE.
Also, most people are in alliances, and having too many people not playing PvE competitively can cost others covers. So loyalty will get people to play more than they really want.
So in short, better rewards with no pressure.0 -
Absolutely loving this event. Challenging. Fun. No grinding. No timing refreshes. No rubberbanding. Love it.
All PvE should be like this.
More of this please.

I don't have to worry about rubberbanding, community scaling, or point refreshes
I can play at any time I want
I can replay nodes for as much iso/tokens as I want, or not, at my leisure
They could literally take out the cover rewards entirely and rerun this event over and over just for ISO and I would prefer that to PVEs0 -
The heroes gauntlet has gotten rather ... hard. All my useful roster is dead now, and I just got so angry that I used up 30k deadpool points and his purple team up on simulation 25...
And how do you get more than just the BP Blue 3* cover in progression??? Or do some of the later sim missions have 3* cover rewards?
I did get a couple 3* covers from normal tokens in the Villains gauntlet, but they were both for characters I'd already cover maxed.0 -

After heroes is done another area opens gauntlet finale0 -

Something even harder than heroes? I'm only 2/3 done with it and already have 200+ level heroes teams!
When will the first post be updated?0 -
I like this one, but when I saw the points for awards I thought someone had done a bit of division and rounded badly.
Alack and alas, Wolveroach has no Punisher, which means the is out of reach.
Oh look, putting colons around a word makes the icon appear. I wonder what happens with :tinykitty: or ***:. Damn, missed an opportunity there, mister IceIX.0
