Sandmaker wrote:I'm with Phantron on this one. Why is there personal scaling for a format like this? The "scaling" should be static and increase constantly per node for everyone equally. You keep going until you hit your roster's limit. That way these events promote you to get a better roster, and level your character.
Currently this event has the opposite effect. You want to keep your roster as low as possible to cakewalk through the nodes. Very counter-intuitive game design.
It's not so much as your roster versus past performance. I'm pretty sure your initial levels is affected by your past history. While we don't have cases of guys starting with level 395 anymore, it's fairly safe to assume top PvE performers start with highest initial PvE nodes even compared to another normal player with a similar strength roster. I know checking with my alliance my starting nodes are always higher than theirs even though we have the same maxed out 166s. In normal events, that's okay because there's community scaling. The game seems to take the highest of your personal rating or the community scaling, so if I start with level 150 nodes and you start with level 100 nodes for the same roster strength, but after one day the community scaling puts them all to level 200 to us then we're even. Well, there's more magic behind the scene so maybe I get 200 and you get 180 after community scaling, but the point is that community scaling does a good job at correcting for any initial errors in scaling.
This event, of course, has no community scaling so the error never gets corrected. If you start out with very low scaling then congrats to you, and judging by the praise this event has it seems like most people start with reasonable or even low scaling. I'm only up to the second intersection but everything is at least my roster's level past the first intersection (166+) and none of them are pushovers at that level, and since it looks like fairly casual guys are having fun in this event I'm pretty sure they're not beating down level 166+ decent teams with ease.
This issue isn't going to matter except for the very top PvE performers, but why would you even design a system where the better you're at something the more you get punished?0 -
This is the best PvE for a long, long time in terms of structure. More like this please!0

How is the scaling for you guys? Sim 27 in heroes is level 257 for me right now, and it's getting pretty tough.0

My Sim 27 & 28 are both level 232 - I just wiped out on 28 (Falcon Hulk & Patch)0 -
Has anyone cleared the heroes side yet? Is there something that opens after that?0

Just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of people who are really happy to see true PvE! The rewards are what they are, I'm fine with the fact that they'll benefit other players far more than they'll benefit me. Thanks for listening and giving us true, compete-only-with-yourself PvE!0

Sim 20 (higest I can see) is 163 for me. Sim 01 is and was 100, Sim 02 is and was 43. No change from initial nodes.
@Phantron: Why not take this time to adjust your PvE scalling then? You can still claim all the rewards by finishing near middle pack by completing the zones 3 days from now. Just do the straight line, not the essentials, until the event is about to expire, then you will place poorly, and per your theroy have less initial scaling.0 -

Why is it a punishment to be given a challenge in an event where time/placement don't matter?0 -

Your difficulty is set based only on your roster when you first enter the event.
Missions in the finale have a minimum difficulty that increases as that chapter goes on, so folks with a better-developed roster will have a much, much easier (though hopefully still very challenging) time there compared to newer players.0 -

I just checked with another alliance member who has a large number of level 166s, but I do have X Force 270 and Nick Fury at 250. My Doom essentials are 127/128 and his are 107. And yes that 20 levels matters a lot when the nodes are indeed quite challenging. I suppose it's possible to get the extra +20 for having X Force at 270, and that case that's a different kind of unfair.0 -
What has been your go to team?
Mine has been maxed fury, Thor, and punisher.0 -
X-Force / C. Mags / Hood has been wrecking all the non Wolvie/Mags nodes for me.0

What levels do you have on the Doom essentials (villian, essential 1-3)? I got 127/128 which is higher than another alliance member I checked that has plenty of 166s but no one higher.
Mine are 128 as well. Probably scales off of your highest level, seeing as how i have a 270 xforce as well. +20 levels is probably reasonable given that X-Force is ridiculous, but yeah, it's slightly annoying. I'm nto really complaining though, just happy to see a new format.0
