The Gaunlet: Villains, Heroes, & Finale 20 - 23 Sep

  • Ok, beat the L281 Sim 42 with my Panther, Punisher and Hood. Used +3 to all boost, killed OBW quickly and the other two never even got off an ability. L195 Thunder Strike TU was used to finish off Sentry as he was about to reign a Supernova on my head.

Next did Essential 16 and out of curiosity checked back on Sim 42 - the levels are now 340/340/341 O_O

Edit: Essential 17 later, Sim 42 is 351.
  • I am now the 24th person in my bracket to clear the Finale. And with 12 minutes to spare on the original end time.

Might play a few nodes tomorrow to try and farm some crazy Team-ups, but not super likely. Way too grindy.

icon_captainamerica.png is a standout here. Slow and mind numbing at times, but he gets the job done.

Did the last essential with icon_hood.png and the two icon_maggia.png dons as my final node. They were level 304. icon_daken.pngicon_blackpanther.pngicon_falcon.png and my last icon_devildino.pngtutile.png made slow but steady work of them. icon_blackpanther.png and icon_falcon.png were at half health going in, but once icon_hood.png fell, it was over. 40k HP is a lot to chew through on the two Dons, but only their black ability is of any real concern when you've got 2k match damage with a board full of strike.png.

So I made it through, but I still feel the levels could use some tweaking. Still a positive opinion and hopeful that the next run will be better. This was a welcome change of pace and quite interesting. For the same reason that the Simulator is my favorite PVE, this was very nice.
  • I liked the extra time, it gave me a chance to play the simulator and hulk PvP most of the day. That's about 1k season pts I wouldn't have if I used health packs on PvE every couple of hours.

I managed to farm 10k+ iso from Villains and Heroes subs as well and I didn't even start playing until after 2pm today. I would love it if this was the PvE version of the simulator for the season like so many other have said. I'll probably just do the one node I have left until the 3684 hero points and farm what I can in the downtime before this ends. Maybe some more farming, getting 20 iso sucks, but my health packs are just sitting there doing nothing.

After all the 200+ level battles I did in the finale, even the Heroes nodes are surprisingly easy to go back through unboosted, if anything this event made me a better player with my current roster. For anyone bored that you've finished or hit a wall, Heroes has a bunch of nodes with 500/250 iso rewards and only 1 tile matcher on their side, cStorm/MagsMN can collect you lots of iso there (or whatever team you 3* folks use).

Whew. Finally finished Sim 42, though it took some thinking outside the box.

    My team was 3* icon_captainamerica.png (104 1/5/2), icon_punisher.png (buffed to 204 5/2/2), 1* icon_storm.png (1 5/5/3). Yes, I used a level 1 character in the last node.
I used +3 redflag.pngyellowflag.png AP boost and two icon_thor.pngtutile.png left over from the Simulator: level 395 Call the Storm and level 346 Thunder Strike. I knew I held on to them for a reason.

I focused my match damage on icon_blackwidow.png while I gathered enough tutile.png and yellowflag.png to fire off Mistress of the Elements, which yielded enough to fire off CtS, which was just enough to one-shot icon_wolverine.png . A few more redflag.png gave me enough to finish off icon_blackwidow.png with Star-Spangled Avenger. Returning to yellowflag.png and tutile.png allowed me to fire Mistress again, generating enough tutile.png to launch TS, which crippled but didn't finish off icon_sentry.png . He still managed to get off a World Rupture, but I had just enough blueflag.png to use Peacemaker, which bought me enough time to knock him down enough that when he recovered and launched Sacrifice, he did himself in.

Whew! Glad I'm done with that node. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did doing it. The remaining Essentials will have to wait until tomorrow (well, later today here), but if I manage to finish and get that icon_psylocke.pngblackflag.png , I know I earned it.

I love this event. I hope they bring it back again and again, with a few tweaks that have been mentioned all over this thread.

Uber Whales does wonders on node 42.

Only trick is surviving long enough to accumulate 14 purple, but boosts help with that.

Best 28000 DP points I've ever spent!

I just won the node 42 with this tactic! iso8.pngiso8.png
+3 all AP; +3 purple... and I was close to lose deadpool: mine is underleveled and I haven't choose a character to tank purple for him! icon_eek.gif

I have still the 6 essentials to do but I'm glad to have won this 42: I died 3 times before with other teams and was close to lose faith.
This event is way more efficient to deplete my stock of boosts that any other events though icon_evil.gif
  • I took 2* Storm 134 and Magneto 127, Hood 92, +3 B/P AP, +3 All AP, +100% Critical Bonus. Got it on the first try with almost no damage vs XFW/OBW/Sentry at lvl 252/253/253.

Focused on taking down OBW first while denying green. Green would be my team's strongest color, so if XFW gathered enough black to use Surgical Strike, it would just remove all green from the board. Sounds good to me -- Sentry can't get it either. XFW never got a chance to fire it off. OBW was down by the second Wind Storm. Sentry was stunned from turn 3 onward.

Didn't even start off with a particularly favorable board, but color distribution was even so Hood stole from most tile matches.
  • I think the devs have done quite a fine job in uniting us icon_e_smile.gif with us sharing our strategies and all. Kudos to the ones who suggested & made this format of pve!

Taping out on the Sentry/Pun/Storm node. Three defeats in a row, even boosted, is too much. Will stick to farming TU from this point on, though played the Beast/Panther/GSBW node twice and picked up Beast's bloody healing skill twice. Of all the team ups...
  • Definitely had a positive opinion of the event, but since I didn't need a blackflag.pngicon_psylocke.png I wasn't very motivated to burn through HP to finish the event.
  • I got a sense of accomplishment out of beating this that I haven't gotten from the game in quite a while.

It was a hard-fought victory, but again, Loki can do a great job against the Battleplans on node 37. Just focus on taking Panther out first (my biggest issue was focusing on the Muscle in my first couple tries).

    I RAN THE GAUNTLET!!!

Thanks to the extra time I was able to plow though it. My final node was all 351s which considering that my only max level ***s are: IM40, Spidey, Punisher, and Patch, I'm damn pleased with myself!

Thanks for all the tips guys!

I finally beaten all the main nodes! Have a good sense of achievement too, much like you.

Didn't do those essential nodes, because I already have those covers. I was only aiming for the hp award. As I only spend iso on boosts, I made a net profit in hp!
  • I got lucky on just about all of my last 8 nodes. On 42 (lvl 277), as soon as I got enough purple to Polarity Shift, X-Force removed all of the green tiles I wasn't going to use anyway and replaced most of them with blues. I got enough for two Wind Storms and a Mag Flux and it was all over.

I finished the event with 1 maxed 3* character and 0 spent HP. It took awhile and there were several frustrating moments. After depleting my health packs I'd just walk away for a few hours. My question to you all is how do you get +3 Boosts? All mine are +1 and I can't use the same one twice. Am I missing something?

You can stack up to 3 of the same boost.
  • Started playing the game recently. Have 13 characters in my roster, highest lvl is star.pngstar.png storm at lvl 86.

Anyway, just wanted to gripe (being new I'm sure it's been said before): playign the gauntlet and in the first chapter you need to have punisher. Thankfully, I recently won him (from a PvP maybe?). But in the second chapter, right at the end I need three start black widow?! Why? Why make it so I can get all the way up to almost getting black panther and then there is some random character requirement? And now I can't get to the third chapter. Just frustrating...

Thanks for the answer. Was not aware of that.

Thanks, worked a treat for me. Got a 5match purple on first go and absolutely destroyed them. They never got a single power off, in fact they may not have got a turn!

    Nice name too...

I have to add that the Uber whales really was a great idea! I beat it in one try, thanks to the suggestion!
