New Character - Sam Wilson (Brave New World) 5*

My best guess is that Chasm's self damage is not scaling high enough to reach the trigger for Darkveil's purple.
My Chasm is at level 474 and set at 5/4/4. Darkveil is level 304, set at 5/5/3, and it takes 1420 damage to trigger her purple. I mainly use supports for AP at the start of the match so those shouldn't affect the combo.
Chasm's self damage black says that it will trigger twice if there are 4 or more Abyss tiles on the board, so I think it needs to get to that point to reach Darkveil's dmg threshhold.
Since the self damage scales based on Chasm's match damage, I think Chasm needs to be pretty beefy.
For me, the combo also works like a charm on Shield Sim.

Also confirming the Chasm combo works for me. Thanks @LennoxHC for the suggestion, it seems faster and more reliable than the Deathlok version most people tend to use.
@KGB one thing I learned quickly was to not match Blue, since that is tanked by Kang and won’t trigger the Chasm self damage. But since that was the main color to match for the Deathlok team, that was a tricky thing. Muscle memory from months of doing the opposite! Just want to make sure that didn’t also play a part in your tests.

All this talk about darkveil, has me thinking what is even the point of trying to 550 anyone? Falcon looks really good after I played his pvp but with all the "cheese" teams, I lost the drive to 550 him as soon as I can. I have gone back to hoarding with no real aim or purpose on how to spend those tokens/cp. Anyone else feel the same way?

Anyone else feel the same way? This depends on what you want to do, but if your goals don't match those then you absolutely do not need maxed out characters (and haven't, for awhile now).
If you want to compete for top PvE placement, you need very high level characters. I'm not sure if it's possible to do with, say, lvl530 or 540 Golden Oldie, etc, but there may be cases where the extra levels matter. I don't think the various "cheese" teams are fast enough for top placement.
If you want to keep your points in PvP (without excessive shield hopping), you need characters with some defensive value. The "cheese" teams are generally going to be very easy targets and will attract a lot of hits.
If you don't care about PvE placement and play PvP for wins (or ignore it completely), then all you need is one of the "cheese" teams and you're done roster building forever.

Sam's red passive is definitely broken against MBaku. The bug is 100% consistent. The red passive fails to fire once MBaku's health drops below a trigger %. Even when Mbaku recovers his health the red passive continues to fail to fire. I can't state exactly what the % trigger is. I believe it is in the 40% - 50% range and there would be some logic to it being 40% as his black includes a trigger at 40% health, below which he cannot be stunned. I suspect this is somehow also stopping Sam's red passive from firing.
What would be interesting to confirm, is if anyone knows whether you can stun MBaku after his health has dropped below 40% and been burst healed back up above the 40% level. If he still can't be stunned either, then this also adds weight to my theory.
I haven't experienced this issue against any other characters, but maybe not surprising as I can't think of anyone else who has stun protection below a certain health threshold.
I will also post this in the bugs section, but does this ever get reviewed by the devs?0 -
It feels like the biggest selling point for 550s now is PvP defense. I can punch up and rack up wins in PvP with cheese teams, but get absolutely smashed on retals. I'm mainly playing for wins so I don't mind so much, but pushing past 1000 is a tough grind.

In my cases it all seems to be related to enemies dying due to passive damage (Juggs Collateral or Polaris start of turn passive damage) since I fought no MBakus. When that happens it seems to stop making strikes and I stop seeing the banner for the passive too. Doesn't happen 100% of the time someone dies from a passive but definitely happens only then. I wonder if it also requires the dead enemy to change the 'whos tanking what' logic even if it's just for the AI (or maybe it's when the AI Sam dies it's removing my passive too).

It's possible this is working like it's supposed to with @KGB's case. I'm not sure about the M'baku thing.
The Falcon ability triggers when multiple enemies take damage, which is not the same as "when an AOE power fires." (Note that this means it will fire for things that are not strictly AOEs, but can hit multiple enemies, like Mephisto's hellfire passive)
So if only one enemy is left when Juggernaut's passive fires, it only hits one enemy and doesn't trigger Falcon. There may be an order of operations issue happening with enemy deaths though.

@entrailbucket That's a very good point. Is the red passive only stopping once M'baku's team mates are both dead? That could be happening consistently in the 40 - 50% M'baku health range given how high his health is currently being boosted. Oversight on my part if this is the case. I will hit a few more teams and check.
