Do you have to ascend 4*Sam before today's data push, or do you have the 4 days to do so to get the ascended rewards?

BNW Sam’s blue has been perplexing me. I don’t know where it’s going.

He's wild. He fits perfectly with a bunch of characters people are already using a ton. Try out Sam/Polaris/Omega Red or 4* Juggernaut -- Sam pumps up those AoE attacks to a huge level quickly, and he has his own AoE.

Iron May might be better at buffing but she's got zero defense and she doesn't enable Polaris shenanigans like Sam does.

Agreed, it is definitely not as I expected; I thought it would only bounce to tiles vertically / horizontally that were touching the one you destroyed (move kinda like snake). It appears as though it will look those directions spanning the entire board and shoot to the closest one.

At first, this makes it harder to strategically throw for maximum hits. It also happens instantly, so it's incredibly difficult / impossible to track what it's choosing. Someone might have to do a strategy video for this one. I nominate @Daredevil217.

worth noting that of all the Fantastic Four at the 4* tier, only Human Torch (Annihilus) does not feed someone yet

that's just wrong. Invis woman doesn't feed anyone anymore and I don't think Jim hammond ever did either

oh right, thank you. I forgot Invisible Woman lost Doom as a feeder.

And I don't think Hammond counts as F4 (at least based on affiliations in game)

Jim Hammond isn't a member of the Fantastic Four. When Johnny Storm debuted, he was buried or something. For a while the canon was that the Vision was Hammond's body with a different personality/abilities etc, and then the West Coast Avengers or someone found Hammond somewhere.

Anyway, no FF celebration should include Jim Hammond.

oh indeed, I just assumed he'd be one because every other human torches are.

I can't make heads or tails of what's going on.

I deliberately chose a tile in the middle of a row and column that had ZERO special tiles. So I expect it to destroy just the tile I selected. Yet it destroyed a special tile in the row above and a another one couple of columns over. So it must expand outside the row / column of the selected tile even if it finds nothing in the one you chose.

It's also not 'closest' because another time I chose a tile right next to an enemy CD I wanted to destroy but it didn't destroy it. Instead it picked something in totally different rows/columns.

It's way too random to be of any use :(

The passive is either bugged or not as good as we hoped.

I took him out with Juggs/Polaris. If you get a cascade you don't get his AOE passive triggering on the ensuing cascade (I tried a match 3 that wasn't Juggs colors that cascaded into his color and it didn't trigger on the cascade so I got no strikes. I also tried a match 3 that was Juggs colors that cascaded into another of Juggs colors and that created just 2 strikes instead of 4).

However if you make a match 5 in Juggs colors you'll get 2 strikes and on the extra move if you make another match in Juggs colors you'll get 2 more strikes as expected.

I wonder if it was worded wrong in the write up or a bug keeping it from performing properly? I haven't played with him yet so I'm brainstorming off of what y'all have seen so far. I wait for the new release store before applying my shards so I can combat a bad rng streak or cover imbalance which is why I haven't tried him out yet.

His passive only goes off once, at the end of the turn, for every turn when more than one enemy gets damaged. The strikes are enormous, though.

If he created ~7k in strike tiles every time Juggernaut made a match...I think that would probably be a bit too strong.

It seems like his Yellow is also buffing enemy tiles? Daken strikes in PVE were getting buffed while Sam was airborne.

This is the first time I was able to champ a 5* on day one.

who did you have so high to do that

I had 1 champed 4* Sam, 1 fully covered 4* Sam with like 16 extra covers. So I champed the 2nd Sam and then ascended him. Ended with 14 covers total.

Just wanted to stop in and drive by a comment regarding 5* Sam's "Blue".... Results are crazy RNG even when you try to be strategic on basic tile selection. It's cheap for a gamble with a probable payoff on a SAP grid, but not preferable if another "Blue" ability is available.

Oh wait... formality dictates we include something off topic... We hate Luna Snow... Stop locking match 5's on our turn!!!

In closing... 5* Sams "Red" passive is choice once per round and will not trigger on cascades, but the strike tiles are brilliant. Sam is also a shield bearer and has the mantle of Captain America...yet cannot rock the vintage shield. Granted....he has no countdown effects... Nevermind...

You think that's because of lessons learned with Polaris? She creates 3 strikes every time you match/destroy a single strike tile. It's not uncommon to make a match 3 with multiple strikes or get a cascade that triggers her creation process multiple times so that she's added 10+ strikes in a single turn. Not to mention she does damage each time this passive triggers too.
