    Also consider that (from what we've heard) the terms of the Marvel license are incredibly restrictive, and often include forced promotion of whatever they're currently trying to push. I think I saw somewhere the devs get to pick one character for every 3 or 4 that Marvel chooses for them. If you look at the rest of the Marvel mobile games, they tend to add similar characters at similar times.

    Of course. Why would multi-media giant Marvel care about obscure characters even if they are their own unless they are relevant to other things ongoing? However I do remember some Devs commentary that the choices are not quite as restrictive as that and they get some level of choice. They also seem to get to introduce their own spin on existing Marvel characters far more than I would have expected.

    MPQ actually created the Peggy Carter (Captain America) variant character -- she showed up in the comics after MPQ, then got her own What If... episode, and has showed up in other places too, I think.

    I don't have any current information on the requirements of their license. The last time devs talked about it was a VERY long time ago, but what they said back then seemed completely insane. It's possible that it's changed, I guess.

    There was a fairly recent question on this where BCS said that yeah obviously there were times they were obligated to crank out character A but they had a decent shout at character B otherwise. I assume something like Omega Red is one of those times.

    And yes, I was here for the debut of Peggy, that version has gone a long way!

    If you consider Spiderverse as being something akin to X-Men then I don't think we're overloaded with them anyway; there's variety n the way they look and play and, at 4* level at least, some good synergies.

    He was the villain in the first Nick Cage Ghost Rider movie, but you wouldn't know since he looks nothing like the comic

    I basically only know Blackheart due to the Capcom fighting game Marvel Super Heroes (I think that's the title; the one with the Infinity Gems)

    I don't know who some of these people are, but y'know, that's how it goes sometimes since I stopped collecting comics in the 90s.

    We're definitely missing a lot of significant characters that weren't in the MCU - Any form of Hank Pym or Bill Foster Giant Man/Goliath, Hercules (as noted above,) Captain Marvel/Photon (Monica Rambeau is in the game, but she's clearly not the powered version,) Gilgamesh, so many Russian characters other than the Red Guardian (Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar, Gremlin/Titanium Man, Vanguard, Ursa Major, etc.

    OTOH I don't think another Spider-Verse character is a bad thing, and out of them Penni seems pretty interesting.

    Blackheart is the son of mephisto, he features prominently in the most 90s comic of all time, the ghost rider/punisher/wolverine team up book Hearts of Darkness.
