New UI Update: Gameboard

Yeah, I'm not a fan of some of these board changes. My biggest complaint is the increased contrast on the tile icons created by the black background and the brightened icons. I had no problem seeing who lead in match damage and would move to the front based on the color previously, and it was treated like secondary information — available to you, but not in the foreground. Now that everything stands out, there is a glut of visual information screaming at you and it becomes harder to see the colors of the tiles unless you're looking right at them. Black, you have to search for. Special tiles no longer stand out, as a strikes, countdowns, and trap tiles are visually weighted almost the same as a standard tile.
And boy, dimming the screen on the enemy's turn makes it harder to see what effects their turn has on the board! Did they add special tiles? Remove special tiles? Change the color of tiles? What did they even match? So much is being obscured, and now I'm wasting time on my turn to see if I can tell what happened — and I usually can't, if a lot happened.10 -
I love it . The contrast is clearer . The darker background helps . I apologize to everyone for not complaining about a game I voluntarily choose to play and donate to without expecting any type of entitlement. I adapt and evolve with the game changes the devs work hard to bring us so I’m not worried about any virtual Darwinism . Excelsior !-14

Surveys months too late does NOT constitute feedback, you're just doing what you want and now we all know that what you want is not what WE want so maybe we're all better getting out of this dysfunctional relationship?
The issue is the developers don´t bother to listen. I don´t know if its because they think they know best or contempt from all the negative feedback. I feel like the game is in a constant dance of one step forward, two steps back and this recent disaster is strike 2 for me. I don´t want to stop playing the game, but the current state is causing me physical pain and I really need to reconsider if its worth the trouble of finding an alternate solution.6 -

In instances like this, devs either check themselves and reaffirm their willingness to develop for an audience or they simply fail.Bzhai said:

This is what is eating me up so bad and making me admittedly aggro about this issue; I stayed silent before about previous changes because plenty of other people said the exact things I wished to say, often in much better ways than I could even try to. At this point, with so many unwanted changes pushed through, I feel disrespected and unwanted, despite my efforts to support this game and let the developers know where they're missing out... approaches like this release let me know that they either think they are infallible or that they care so little for their gaming public's opinion that they might as well be. It's **** and not worth supporting.

I know many players are saying that the changes are horrible, but I am seeing mostly gut reactions. Gut reactions are often in response to something that isn't right, even though what is right may not be known. I think the changes are good, but not finely tuned. The frame is solid in my opinion, but the surface just needs a pinch more adjusting. Once those are done, I think the majority of players will be happier.
Nonetheless, the issue stands that there is a problem with the coloring, lighting, and iconography. I don't think they are highly involved and difficult problems to solve, but they are most definitely serious problems for the majority of players. Like you, I hope they are fixed soon.

If a video game you like to play is causing you physical pain/health issues...there are literally thousands of video games to play that are just as fun as this one that won't cause those problems for you.
If a large number of people stop playing the game completely as a result of this change, it will be reverted or altered. If you continue to play despite changes that cause you physical pain, all they will see is that player engagement is steady. Vote with your feet.

PLEASE UPDATE THE GAME AND PLACE A WARNING THAT IT MAY CAUSE EPILEPTIC SEIZURES.
Over a year ago. I introduced a friend to this game. He loved it and was playing daily and was getting deep into 4 star land. Today he told me he has to quit because of this change. Apparently, the dimming triggered an epileptic episode. MPQ used to be a game that did not cause this for him, but for some reason the dimming now does. I have also read that the change has caused some migraines in some in my alliance Line chat. It bothers me, but I figured I would just get used to it, like I get used to most changes.
But if a change in the game causes migraines and seizures I think the Dev Team would really want to know about that and rethink the dimming.16 -
After 2000+ days of playing I am calling it quits. I can't play it anymore. I could have stuck it out like most but I see some players like it and the devs are excited and to save myself from the growing resentment I hold for these people and further aggravation from future updates I am out. Thank you.4

I desperately want to find something positive to say about this update, as complaining usually gets you nowhere, but this change is horrible.
First, I suffer from red-green colorblindness, and these changes make the board nearly unplayable. Too many colors blend in to one another because the brighter background has been replaced with a dark one; there goes that important contrast.
Second, the dimming of the screen during the opponents moves actually hurts my eyes and bothers my head. I find I’m straining to see what’s happening on a screen that’s no longer designed to convey the information I’m used to receiving. This change is horrific and we should be given a choice to turn it off, much like animations and enemy AP gain.
Finally, this is a question as opposed to feedback...but do you guys ever play-test these changes? Who on the development team played this and thought it was an improvement? The big problem you guys are facing with your loyal player base is that we show up every day and give you our all, while changes like this feel very short-sighted and without care for how it’s going to affect us. I think it’s moments like these that further the divide between player and developer because it really seems like what’s important to us (i.e., character respects, qol changes, etc.) are purposefully ignored in favor for changes that are two steps back for every step forward. The new UI is at most an irritation for players like me, but for those who are colorblind or have light sensitivity issues, it’s practically unplayable. Please revert these changes and do better about considering accessibility issues with future UI changes.
I am generally one who tries to find the good in people and things. I am really wanting to like this because it obviously took time and effort by the developers. I would really like to say that I'll adjust in time and get used to it.
Sadly, after playing both PvP and PvE today, I cannot say any of these things. What I can say is that I am physically ill after playing. I played in the middle of the day and became physically ill. I thought that maybe I was just unwell. I then took a purposeful break and even napped. I've now done my PvE for the day and am in even worse shape. As a friend put it to me: accessibility > aesthetics.
I *do* like the new (bigger?) arrow for moving the opponents around and how the tile hint now moves instead of glowing.
I just don't like being sick. Yes, I can quit if it continues but, as opposed to some people here being fine with a major loss of players, I doubt that's what the developers had in mind. 🤔 I prefer to play on my tablet, which I have updated. I will have to stop playing once I am forced to update MPQ on my phone
Please revert this. The backs of many camels are breaking!13 -
Adding my name to this unofficial petition. Change it back or allow users to have that option.I personally don’t have a problem with the new UI except for enemy specials being quite difficult to notice.I feel terrible for everyone that has to push through this mess to keep up with the game until the devs finally make a change.7

I greatly dislike the new board. The dimming on the enemies turn is disorienting and makes it harder to plan my next moves which increases the time it takes to finish a match. It is harder to see special tiles especially charged ones and I feel the color changes are bad as well. Please go back to the old version until you can make major tweaks to this one.

Grain of salt? Gambit nerf, bishop nerf, pve tapping, maybe time slices a little. That's just what I remember without thinking about what the forum has been involved in changing. Anyone else remember some?
You honestly think this complete aesthetic change to the game board that we interact with 100% of the time when playing is a "minor" change? C'mon man!
Full disclosure - I did post that this change doesn't bother me and I'd be able to get used to it.2 -
I am one of those who got migraines from the new dimming and harder on eyes issues this new UI has caused. I have not had migraines recently... but when I do like now...it does not go away easily. It is very painful and debilitating. I do hope the dev team can roll back until a solution is found first. Otherwise I dont see a way forward.
Reading to others despair on here.. I wanted to share that I do know the dev team is listening as shared on facebook by them:
Hi Everyone - We appreciate the community reaching out to us in regards to some of the changes in the recent R223 update. The feedback here is super helpful and they are being shared with the team. These concerns are being reviewed and once we have more information to share, we will provide an update here in the coming days. Thank you

been trying to play for about a few hours since the changeThe most annoying thing for me apart from the dark screen on the AI’s turn is that it’s very difficult to know when you have a power ready , yellow doesn’t seem to flash at all
nice attempt at improving the game but sadly it just doesn’t work for so many reasons4 -

If it's causing you serious problems, the way to get that point across is to stop playing until it's fixed. Posting feedback here may carry some weight but ultimately, continuing to engage with the game will outweigh any negative feedback here.1 -

Posting feedback here may carry some weight but ultimately, continuing to engage with the game will outweigh any negative feedback here. incorrect — and it’s counterproductive advice.Your comments in this vein are incorrect. You’ve been a member here long enough to know that if you’ve been even minimally active in keeping up since 2014.1. Why would they bother to sponsor a forum if there is no intention to monitor the valuable, free feedback volunteered here?2. While perhaps non-optimal in frequency, there are numerous well-known examples of developers responding to our feedback here.3. This thread is being actively monitored and moderated. Attention is obviously on it.4. It seems unlikely that encouraging quitting is your motivation, but it comes off that way. Why discourage player feedback in favor of quitting? Seems like a slow route to better placement for you, but your advice is illogical otherwise.Anyway, find another thread to promote your theories on productive player feedback. This thread is too important to sabotage.8
