I still have fun playing with Spidey. Except I don't use him to stunlock every single team I play against, so that may be why. I use his stun strategically; when there's a power about to be used against me, when there's countdown tile about to go off, when I want to set up a match five, etc. I know his stun is too cheap right now but I really hope it doesn't disappear entirely. I always thought his healing caused a much bigger imbalance than his stun.

I do think that spidey 3*** is a bit of a crutch -- I tend to use him only when I have to.

However, having said that, after being railed by a lucky cascade which wipes out my team (or nearly wipes out my team), I do usually swap him back in for a bit of stunlock fun.

Also for healing if my guys need it...
  • I only do the high point missions to reduce the amount of tedium, and Black Panther is powerful enough that you don't need stuns with him able to take a Headbutt in the face and still survive.

Agreed. Mine's only sitting at 80, but for the past two events I've been leaving him out in favor of Punisher. Sure, I take some more damage, but the fights are more fun. Scaling is also not hitting me like a truck as a result too, so that's a plus.

The scaling is definitely much better. I'm only seeing level 200+ teams in a few places, and always for big points. That hearkens back to the glory days, where there were only a few 200+ level matches, and always for big points.

Osborn does need some new employees, though. The roster of Daken, Yelena, Juggs, Rags, Bullseye, Ares, Moonstone, and Venom is wearing thin.
  • I wish I had a Spider-Man to get bored of.
  • I shelved mine. boring as hell.

I'm opting for combos of hulk, punisher, patch, OBW, Ares, and Classic Mag.

When I know I'm not going to keep playing, I always use Punisher now. I only use Spidey to keep team strong to keep playing. But it does make the game a lot less fluid. He is like a constant .2 Health pack. I am also ready for the nerf because I want him out of the competition because I want fast fights and he just makes things drag between the stun and the extra animation time for the purple match.

Just don't nerf him halfway through an elite tourney please.
  • I'll adapt when he gets rebalanced, but no - I love my Spidey. He was one of my first high level 3-stars, and I really enjoy the slow, deliberate match control he offers. I hope that they can preserve that feel when the tweaks come in.
  • By the way using Spiderman doesn't necessarily makes the game boring, and whether something is boring or not doesn't make it more or less overpowered. I don't use Spiderman when he's not needed because he obviously contributes nothing for offense, so winning faster is still winning faster. But you'll have a hard time beating the 3X230 DAs at all without him so it's not a matter of principle.
  • You all act like, every single person has Spider-man's blue power at level 5. I wish I did icon_e_sad.gif
  • For me spidey is situational. I have been using him less and less now that scaling is getting better. There are certain enemies at certain levels that i use him for.

My Spidey started being extremely useful even at 1-3-2 and I got all the mileage out of the build I could; then I got a 4th blue cover and it was even better.
But the community finally got on my attitude as well and I can't help seeing Spidey as the metaphorical 'crutch' now.
Despite him being my favourite Marvel character (heck, favourite comic book character in general), I'd rather not take him, say, to that difficult fight if I'm positive I can do it with my usual guys.
These days I only usually run Spidey in PvE alongside Venom when I can't be bothered with whittling down lvl 230 Ragnaroks, Dakens and Bullseyes. He's still a lot of fun, but I wish I could run the character just for the sake of him being Spidey and not be ashamed of it.
In PvP, some MagnetoMN + Spidey teams attack me repeatedly only to be beaten upon in return; I mostly stopped running Spidey in PvP because I accepted the notion that if you can't defeat the opponent without perma-stunning, it's probably not your level of capability yet. He's reserved for only a handful of fights but...
I desperately want him to become viable and respectable again, just for the sake of being Spidey and not being a crutch in anyone's eyes. That probably would require nerfing his stun, but I think his webs could simply dissolve after 2 turns or something, as someone already proposed here on the forums. I don't want Spidey to be forgotten and looked down on as you move on icon_e_sad.gif
  • Yes yes, Spidey is extremely boooooring.
Let us make a deal NOT to use him for PVP events (especially Elite Tournaments).

    You start first.... icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • My Spidey has 3 blue which is OK when teamed with Mag Now. Together they can often perma-stun two villains, rarely three. And if Mags isn't available or gets killed too quickly it's going to be a tough match as Spidey by himself isn't that great. At the very least it'll be slow going. I think he's a little underpowered at his current cover level. The shields help and the healing really helps though if someone is taking a beating before I've collected a dozen blue I almost certainluy don't have the yellow on hand yet either.

Of really like another blue cover to see what a difference that makes.

Now the idea of dissolving webs is really interesting to me. It would force you to burn more blue to keep enemies stunned at max duration. But I think 2 turns is too short... Or have them last longer for more covers maybe.

Thick as thieves burned me out on Spidey since he was mandatory for every fight
since then I find managing my scaling/mmr to be less time consuming and more fun

    Seriously.

Totally agree with you. Spider Man is my favorite marvel character and he provides a style of play that I enjoy. I prefer to stay in control and put up a good defense. I really hope that once the balancing occurs that they don't make him completely useless. In my opinion he should be the best support character in the game they just need to figure out how to balance out his ability to stun your opponents with some of the other character's ability to get out of hand quickly if not kept in check. I for one am not looking forward to any team consisting of the new 3* Thor and Black Panther without having the ability to keep them from whiping my team out in 1 fell swoop after a bad cascade. In PvE I don't know how you deal with some of these level 230 fights consistently without him.
  • I love my lvl70 spidey, he's the big equalizer when you're facing lvl230 goons or jugs that can one shot kill any of your characters, even my lvl125 hulk

No matter who I pair him with, stunlock sucks the fun out of fights for me. It was fun for a while being able to make end fights with full health, but after Episode 4 (Spidey + MN Mags) I'm legit going out of my way to avoid using him even if I'm fighting high level teams.

I remember the elation of finally getting 4 blue covers and being able to shut down teams entirely, so I can get why people would be upset if he gets needed before they get some mileage out of his blue, but I'm so ready for that nerf.

Don't use him, simple as that.

I think some people play Spidey wrong. They focus too much on building up his blue at the outset and then stunlocking the team, then building up AP for their damage abilities. It's super-safe, but It makes the matches way too long (and boring).

I play him as a third wheel, someone along for the ride. I bring in two damage dealers and start building up AP for their big attacks right away. Unleash them and then once I have one opponent dead and the other one injured, THEN I have accrued enough blue through cascades and 4-way matches to start laying down some stuns. That way I don't take any damage as I'm mopping up (because the AI will have accrued a good chunk of AP at that point.) Then finish off with one heal at the end before dealing the finishing blow.

You're going to take more damage and put yourself more at risk of getting wiped, but it can shave a good 30-60 seconds (or more) off your match time.
