Not a real question,
Will Lady Deadpool also have "just woke up in the morning wearing a bath rope" dupe for her roster display?

next step in this evolution could be offers to buy new board backgrounds and fancy new tile sets...

This does feel a bit like supports. A good idea spoiled by it being pay for content. I actually like the idea of different costumes as it would create a difference between characters. When I fight all the Thor's and Okoye's in PVP it would be quite cool seeing the different costumes people chose to put them in. That said, they should all be free additions that you can unlock through gameplay. Sure, make some really, really special ones that only people willing to spend can earn but 90% of them should be free to everyone.0

I guess one obvious reason to favour selling costumes over alternate comic covers is exposure. As I play PVP, I'll probably end up seeing all these new costumes on competitors eventually, which will make them more desirable. When would I see alternate comic covers other players have equipped? I suppose I could view their roster, but I do that far less often.1

But it seems to me that management wanted to turn the Art Department's idea into an attempt to increase revenue without actually saying it, which looks bad. I bet the art department would have been happy to give away these costumes for free.Absolutely.But I'm kinda less willing to pay for a *chance* at getting a new costume that's only available for a short while. It's the problem we already have with supports.2

Second, I’m sorry but I really do not understand this. MPQ is not a charity. It is a business. Everything they do is ultimately to make money. Even stuff like cover save which is seemingly “for the people” is there for their bottom line. They have never come out and said “we are implementing X in hopes of increasing revenue” for any other feature that has been implemented so I’m not angry that this is no different. I still believe this is a very big “ignore if not for you” feature. People need to understand that making money is a good thing for the company.
While the above is absolutely true I strongly believe (though am not 100%) that this also goes for the seemingly schizophrenic nature of their decision-making. I think many “for the people” changes both announced and unannounced that were nerfed later were done so because they effect spending.
50/50 token split- we were likely covering new characters way too fast and thus revenue decreased. Player engagement was probably down for release events knowing we’d champ in a week anyway. They changed it back even though we loved the 50/50 system and now we are back to complaining about dilution with seemingly no fix in sight.
Shield Training Essentials- We complained mightily about requiring the most recently released character. They gave us a few months where the “newer” essential character was one people had PLENTY of time to cover. Again my assumption is players were happy and spending was down.
5* feeders- Similar to above we had consecutive releases where a feeder was given upon release. My guess is the scrambling to ensure you have a cover for the essential node went way down. Spending went way down without that pressure. And they actually rewarded hoarders (like myself). All things they didn’t want to do.
Supports- I mean the rollout for this has been awful. We haven’t event gotten a good “for the people” change and the one we got (increased red iso) hasn’t been snatched away yet. It feels like rather than give us something good and take it away like all the above examples, they are starting super restrictive and slowly loosening the purse strings. Problem is they are loosening too slowly and it is just annoying to the players at this point.
Bottom line, the game's purpose is to make money so I assume every great thing we get that they end up taking away is because it impacted their bottom line. They have horrible communication around this stuff because if they say: “we gave you all [insert feature/change] and spending went way down so now we are making it harder for you to get 5* covers earlier, complete shield training, champ new 4*, etc.”
There’s no way to flip that in a way that is positive from a PR perspective.9 -
Just to be 100% clear, because sometimes some of the pronouncements admit of more than one interpretation...
The statement "Costumes are rare and special - most Costumes will only be available for a limited period of time or only to players who reach particular achievements in the game."
That means the timeframe for acquiring each of these is limited? It's not that they disappear after a certain time? (The latter was my first thought, it looks like everyone else is thinking the former.) I can't shake this feeling that they'll end up more a subscription than a purchase. "Want to keep your new shiny after the end of the month? Don't forget to renew your VIP membership and give MPQ a 5* rating."

I definitely don't see it panning out that way. I see it as "Announcing the new Daredevil Black Outfit costume! Available in the vaults for this week only!"I cannot imagine they'd get anyone to keep costumes as part of a new subscription. Not even if they included it for free in the VIP system.0 -
When origionally introduced SWitch and Quicksilver had different art, but they changed from classic to more MCU like outfits pretty soon after. If anything, please do not make us pay for those at a later date. Would be pretty nice to see those be introduced as some gameplay milestone, or just for free... I know,, the latter will probably not happen, but one can hope.0

Character customization is a good source of additional revenue for the game industry. This tap into the psychology of people wanting to be different and unique.
The trend in gaming is that 1)mobile gaming are taking over the PC or console segments and 2) add-on contents/subscription model revenues are surpassing one-time purchase model.
MPQ is a business entity. They are doing what's best for the business by balancing between free contents and paid contents. There might be free costumes earned via placement available for players in the future, but don't expect MPQ to give free costume(s) majority of the time.
Like some said, there are three options to purchase costume: 1) VIP purchases 2) HfH 3) vault lucky pull.
If I were to look at it another way, these three options seem to correspond with three common types of players:
1) players who are willing to play/support the games short term/long term
2) dedicated/hardcore F2P players who play religiously, might or might not support the game monetarily
3) F2P, plays casually and might not purchase anything or has small/tight budget.
I fall under 2: If I save up my HP, I can purchase the HfH bundle. Group 3 players have to rely on RNG to have a shot at the vault. This feature is not game breaking, so it doesn't affect me and I'm fine if I can't earn them freely.1 -
Or perhaps they could sell Steve Rogers' dark eyebrows? Or Kamala Kahn's old face? Or Spider-Man's wonky old Bag-Man style art?

Quicksilver had a comics inspired look at first but was changed to the AoU look when the Movie was released. Scarlet Witch had her Movie look from release, which is a shame. I would love to have her comics look in the game.1 -
The idea itself isn't bad, but not like this. It would have made sense for this game to have only one version of a character (let's say Peter Parker) and that characters would have different costumes (that would give him rarity and new look, and new powers). This way you would have your character, because you unlocked it once, and you would compete for covers, that would actually be different costumes. There is no logic behind having 2 5* Peter Parkers, one 3* Peter Parker, and one 1* Peter Parker. We should have 1 Peter Parker period. With different costumes. 2 5* costumes, one 3* costumes and so on. That way, when you would make a reskin it would actually make sense. You would have the ISO for the character leveling, and would have a smaller percent go toward each costume.
Having costumes for different or specific version of each char is plain stupid... it adds complexity for nothing. Just my 2 cents.0 -

- I think we're gonna miss some great skins because how prude the D3 seems to be. For example, I'd love to have the "casual" version of X23 instead of that weird Wolverine-ish one, but it seems it's not gonna happen since D3 is, for some reason, mortally terrified of showing bare midriffs (see MPQ version of Emma Frost).3 -
Whilst not wanting to completely ignore the very reasonable concerns about how this is going to be implemented, Brigby did ask for some suggestions so here would be mine based upon the assumption that we will get alternate skins which can feature variant versions and not just somebody in a T-shirt.(I'm assuming the chances of having some of these otherwise are non-existent).Iron-Man of 2020 - This might be my favourite Iron Man armour lookwise.Frog-Thor - I don't think there would me much chance of a release as an actual character.Captain America - Either the Black Costume or as USAgent with applicable shield.Kitty - Shadowcat (blue costume)Age of Apocalypse variantsValkyrie - Classic comic book version1
