OSCORP HEROIC - MAY 8-14

Like I mentioned before - easiest way without fixing anything is to give everyone the Lazy Daken covers.
It's actually a win-win situation. Those with HP will buy a roster slot. Big whales will get the 3 covers and spend HP to buy the remaining covers. Those without HP will purchase some thru IAP. Why crack the programmers' brains on a weekend when they can just have some beer and chillax?0 -
After a night of sleep and a full refresh my highest node was worth less than 350. I'm close to 5k behind. I cannot catch up without majorly grinding and hoping that the 400 people ahead of me who played for big points while I was mowing the lawn dont play again, and that I don't mess up my scaling because of it. If I was shut out because of something I did,I could understand that. But I'm not. I'm shut out because the points changed and I was unlucky enough to start at the wrong time. Because I like the game and was not around for this event and wanted to pay it. So I joined an early bracket am now given a big pile of small felines because of it.
Edited for auto correct nonsense0 -

I am mostly pissed off because i have 150k in ISO i was saving and a $50 i tunes gift card i was planning to drop on 3*** Daken covers if he was as Powerful as everyone was thinking. at this point i am not going to get a single cover for him...0 -
I think I will simply forget about it and don't play ... Screw this ... It will be a sunny weekend anyway ...
Guess a lot of people is thinking like I do actually, I feel bad for alliance but the other guys are doing so damn fine I wont feel bad ...0 -
FWIW, it's definitely not an 8hr refresh, so probably 12hrs.0
-
So, like many others, I got screwed as well and decided... grind, grind, grind and see where it gets me...
I was 5.5K behind main bracket leader. I grinded and grinded until nodes were worth less than 10 points per. That left me 2K behind and up from 640 to top 50! YAY, right? WRONG!
Devs could have slacked up on the scaling... That attempt at "catch up" scaled me the nodes into the mid 200s. With a limted roster... Gee thanks.
Now, I am tanking, tanking, tanking... So... No sense in grinding... No sense in doing nothing...0 -
IceIX wrote:Case studies to keep in mind:
A) User has 2500 points. Main bracket leader is at 9000, sub bracket leader is at 6000.
Result - User will get rubber banding kicking in allowing at latest next refresh to make up much of the deficit to the 6000 player. The 6000 player will not have rubber banding *and* the reduced pins, so will be unable to continue springing ahead with the same lead. This goes for the 9000 main bracket leader as well.
User has 2500 points. Main bracket leader is at 9000, sub bracket leader is at 3000.
Result - User doesn't need rubber banding for sub bracket and the sub bracket will thus offer no real points. *However*, unlike Sim Challenge, this Event has pins in the main chapter which would be subject to points gains compared to the leader who would not gain these. The user would be able to largely if not totally catch up here as a result depending on the leader's play schedule.
The chances of a best-case for some users complete Event reset, point wipe, or some kind of point delta change is unlikely. Worst case for some users, everything stays as is. With normal play schedules for most affected users, they'll be able to make up the gap through either sub event or main event rubber banding. It may not be necessary to make any further changes as a result. That being said, still looking into things, waiting on a designer and an engineer at the moment.
None of these take into account the alliances. If I'm in a bracket without the ungodly rubberbanding to "catch up", I'm going to be several thousand points behind even my own alliance leaders, let alone other alliances.
So while the "let it work itself out" fix would help with the individual awards for those in or out of these brackets, those that are not are severely handicapping their alliances cause they happened not to be on one of these broken brackets(ie - through no fault of their own).0 -
I'm thinking of just stopping too. No sense in grinding that will likely land me with a **** Bullseye cover that I don't need anyway while simultaneously raising my scaling level.0
-
anybody wanna wager a guess as to when we hear anything more from the Dev team?
I say ~ 3:00 pm EST...if at all.
but i could totally see no further communication and just letting the weekend come and go too.

@ender do you think my suggestion is appropriate if they don't want to reset the whole thing?
It is also better than asking devs to make those who managed to grind before the points nerf have 3x enemy scaling for the next sub, since the points was reduced around 3 times or more per node for people who joined late.0 -
Haven't joined yet and reading through the thread. When does the first sub end (or has it already)?
Also, any thoughts on when to join at this point? Seems like a steaming pile of kitty.0 -
I'm not sure people aren't overreacting (double negative ftw). I started the event after work yesterday, before checking the forums. saw this event and hopped on. I guess the sub event was already at 400,000 target (7:30est?). I played for like 2 hours and was top 10 and about 1000 behind the main bracket lead. I don't play optimally since have neither the time or reception at work, but I'm sure actually playing the game helped me catch up as much as I could.
People that are waiting to play are just leaving points on the table and digging a hole that is only going to get worse the longer you wait. If you are so overly concerned about the metagame that you actually don't play the game, then what are you doing? Who says they won't tweak the MMR or rubber band in a way that helps people that played as opposed to tweaking it so you decide to get off the bench? What if they decide to cabin the MMR for those who tried to grind the sub event to catch up? What if they changed the rubber banding for 3 hours while I'm at work? What if, what if, what if.
I got hosed in the Hunt where I really couldn't even get through the simulator to unlock Heroic mode. I passed and just played season events.
You want free Daken as a reward for not playing the event? please. Sorry,
-Sorry if this is overly snarky/grumpy at the end but I haven't had my coffee yet.0 -

Well done for not reading the whole thread and sharing with everyone!
Fact is if you joined late enough your main and subs should be fine because you missed out on the people who got miles ahead before they nerfed points. So that's fine then? Screw everyone else? Don't worry about the fact your alliance contribution will be lagging 5k behind the starting people if you are FIRST in your post nerf main bracket?
Try 2 coffees... maybe 30 -
CB you are likely fine. It's those people like me who joined earlier and only did one pass, while everyone else in my bracket did multiple passes. When they reset the points, they f'd the rubberbanding that makes it impossible for me to catch them, even if I grinded down each node to 1. I simply can't get close. If they are confident we can catch up, they need to speak up now.0

Yup, @coffeeandbacon joined the main and sub at a time where the points were already nerfed.
I joined the main before the points nerf, and when I started the sub, the points did a David Blaine on me... lesser points than before what my alliance members saw. So lucky you @coffeeandbacon, not so lucky for people like me. And no, I am not playing the "when should I play or join" game... I have started the subs and no way that I can keep up with the main even if I grind all nodes to 1. There just isn't enough points in the sub for me. Peroid.0 -
If scaling wasn't a factor, I'd be a lot more okay with having to grind to make up the points difference. As it is -- if I even have a shot at making up the points difference I have to grind. But grinding will increase my scaling to the point where I will want to throw my phone at the wall every battle.
With scaling you want to play as little as possible to keep your enemy levels reasonable.
With the current points issue, those affected have to grind to make up the difference.
It's a catch-22. Either you're screwed out of covers or you're screwed with enemy levels. Pick your poison.
If nothing changes, I'm not going to stress myself out trying to catch up. I'll play as I usually do, get as many points for my alliance as possible while keeping my scaling reasonable. I was at ridiculous levels of scaling the last heroic; Daken covers aren't worth going there again for me.0 -
@coffeeandbacon: I completely forgive your snark, because you clearly have no idea what happened.0

3 coffees for sure.... and some bacon if I get the chance.
I read the thread, which is why I haven't posted until now. But it just seems that people are waiting to play even now and that makes no sense to me.... As for those who started and got hit with the nerf mid event - yes, that sucks, but i thought IceIX said that was not a ton of people? And ICE said they were looking into it and you should try and bank what points you can. Speculating on whether this advice is good or not based on a MMR system that is always changing seems.... suboptimal.0 -

Nah. Rubber-banding doesn't care what bracket you're in.0
