Cycling with Bolas was always a challenge.  It was a race to get your combo out before Bolas activated his Death Star Planet Destroyer on your planeswalker, and getting a 200/200 drake isn't going to win you the game if Bolas just steals it before you can attack.  Which he did...a lot.  So no, cycling did not guarantee you victory with Bolas, not even close.
There is a card, its called Faith of the Devoted. Also there is a planeswalker named Ob Nixilis, Reignited  :)
Ah, so you want to do make 150 swaps everytime you fight Bolas? (~100 required swaps necessary for the damage plus swapping out the extra New Perspectives and Faith of the Devoted/Drake Havens you draw to clear your hand for new cards).  Be my guest to that 30 minutes of bored misery you're subjecting yourself to...but hey, you're gonna have really buff fingers ;)
It takes less than 5 mins to beat Bolas with Ob cycling deck... really not that bad
that's an exaggeration.  It's still 35+ swaps with the 13 damage (5 plus the Ob ultimate of 8) to kill Bolas, add in the time required to get Ob's ultimate activated, and include the fact that Bolas is still taking (though short) turns.

There's also a card named Alhammeret' Archive. A very popular choice with cycling.

Did it and moved on to other things.

it's a clunky substitute for Curator of Mysteries, and would still not make a match against Bolas fit in that time frame.

But I'm not really invested in a debate over this specific aspect of the topic.  My point was that (short amount of time or not) Bolas is not a fun boss to fight, even with cycling, even if you win.  And if you have a lvl 60 Ob Nix, and an Alhammeret's Archive/Curator of Mysteries...you probably have other routes for defeating Bolas as well, making it less miserable.

I still know regular players who haven't beating Bolas once yet, because they haven't gotten lucky and pulled the handful of cards necessary for beating him.

Can we just put this to rest? Claiming this thread resulted in the dumpster fire that is Ixalan is just ridiculous. They obviously made a conscious decision to lower the power level but they made a lot of rookie mistakes. Other threads have already pointed out how some of the cards were transplanted directly from paper and just had their mana costs raised. The devs stated long ago they wanted to align more with paper magic. That design philosophy is fine but you can't align exactly with paper. Player life totals are vastly different, mana functionality is vastly different, land cards... you get the point. Some things can mimic paper exactly but they need to have values adjusted to fit this game. Other cards do not translate to this format at all and should have been completely redesigned or simply omitted.

Not ridiculous at all, itsi just not - only- this thread but the general nerfcalling on the forums. The devs do not work in a vacuum after all.

Call for nerfs long enough and you'll get them, with a vengeance.

It's possible to beat Bolas with commons and uncommons. To do it consistently you need some form of healing. My first win against Bolas was with a level 50 Sarkhan with the 4 direct damage ruins, the two 3 damage to creature or opponent, and Shadows of the Past for healing. Most of the times I would have been fine without the healing. Bolas is easy, just stupid long if you don't have key cards or Ob Nixilis.

I enjoyed the challenge of final boss Avacyn back when I had weaker decks.  Yeah she seemed overpowered at the time, but I enjoyed the challenge.  Final Boss Tezz was a pain after he took 20 extra turns when the board was covered in energy gems, but you at least could race him to victory and hold a chance with a variety of decks.  Even winning (which I consistently do now), I've never had fun fighting Bolas, which is a common experience.  Just sayin.
