Has Oktagon talked about revisiting the switch from 1 to 3-card boosters? It was hugely unpopular almost universally and seems an easy switch to make back that would be a huge boost to morale

Strange BFZ situation. I currently have 10 rares, 1 from old free boosters, two because I bought 2 fat packs with a guaranteed rare, and 7 from crafting (having a great pool of not owned rares is helping here). Even when BFZ boosters give me a rare, it's OGW (it's 12/18 already).

It may be just me, but I feel I'm getting more new cards after the last update. Coincidence?

My EPIC bad luck is getting ridiculous. One (!) rare in more than an entire month (as the previous rare was December 8th), and it was Managorger Hydra, a dupe because I had crafted it some days earlier. Great!

11 days registering, 89 cards, 13 uncommon, 1 (!) new card. C'mon, I still have 239/278 standard uncommons. Could get more than 1/13 for new cards. Rares, I have 74/190. Can I get a new one next time?

Thank you, friend, but I'm sure your stats are much more relevant to the community. But yeah, I intend to return when Ixalan is out. While it's not, you can have data for other boosters. Note that the last Origins ones were the initial buy, which I bought using real money. 3 rares in a booster, hmmmm...

Not registering free cards for now, but still no rares and no new cards after day 20.

Oh, and I have a question. People of my coalition are saving to buy Ixalan, as they want the orbs bonus to craft. Is it the best idea? I mean, comparing it to what HOU is at the moment: I'm already at 100% commons, 53/55 unc, 25/40 rares, 5/25 mythics. Mythics are harder to get, but HOU is not even near leaving standard, and I will be getting free cards from it for a long time, beyond boosters and rares from events. If I do the same for Ixalan, I will be getting earlier cards that later I would get anyway. As almost all cards are going to be dupes after some time, wouldn't be better to invest crystals in something that will be harder to get, like Kaladesh (which will leave standard much sooner), or legacy?

Today got my first new card in free cards since January 7th (when I got Gilt-leaf Winnower). It was Mage-Ring Bully. Last rare was still Champion of Wits at January 16th.

Not registering since 20th, but I still take around 8/9 cards per day. At least, I'm getting new cards from boosters and events. Getting close to 80% total uncommons (completed HOU recently) and 50% total rares.

If I may weigh in on this, it really depends on your card collection status. As a general rule, new cards trump dupe cards. So if you are still missing quite a few cards from Kaladesh, then it could make sense to spend some Crystals on Kaladesh.

However, if you're looking strictly at Standard-viable cards, bear in mind that Kaladesh and Aether Revolt cards may only be Standard-legal for another 8 months or so. This estimate is assuming Rivals is released around 3 months after Ixalan and Dominaria comes another 3 to 4 months later. This also means that you only have to wait for about 8 months or so before it becomes 40% cheaper to craft any KLD or AER card after those sets rotate into Legacy.

A lot of people are saving up for Ixalan because of three primary factors. Firstly being that it will be the best source of new cards upon its release. And new cards are appealing. The second factor being that if they follow the trend set by Hibernum, there will be new events released together with Ixalan and the secondary objectives for these events are likely to require Ixalan cards to be achieved. Hence, amassing a significant collection of Ixalan cards puts one in a better position to score points on these events, especially as they tend to be coalition events.

On your point that you will start getting Ixalan dupe cards sooner if you spend more Crystals on it early on, yeah that's true but whether it matters is something that is heavily dependent on your card collection status. There are players who have all the uncommons and commons across all sets now along with what is likely a significant number of the rares also. And some players reach this state with every new set anyway so sometimes the only difference in splurging early on a set pertaining to this particular consideration is how many packs they have saved up for the exclusives when those are released into the card pool.

The third factor as you pointed out is the Orbs bonus from duplicates in the initial month. If you're in the category of players who will hit full dupes in say 95% of the packs you open by the end of the set, then it would make sense for you to have more of the pack openings be within the bonus Orbs period so that you get more value out of the dupes.

Instead of 50 dupe Rares to craft a shiny new Standard Mythic, it becomes 34 dupe Rares to a shiny new Standard Mythic. That's 16 less dupe Rares. Or 7 dupe Mythics instead of 10 dupe Mythics, but the Rare count has more shock value lol.

So ultimately it's up to you, but some of the factors you want to consider include whether it's more important to complete your collection, regardless whether it is Standard or Legal, and how important it is to have a ready collection to score the secondary objectives in the new events.

If Kaladesh leaves standard it will be much cheaper to craft. So I would savesmy crystals for IX and buy as much as I can in the first month because of the 50% orb bonus. This will help to craft the missing cards from older sets.

In the moment I only missing 13 mythics from Kal block. So definitely not the point to buy but for Ix I will stop buying booster if I finished common an uncommon. Rest will follow buy rewards, free booster or by crafting.

Hou I would not buy yet. When Ix rotates in all the exclusives are not exclusive any more. Means not so many dupes.

I'm not even considering HOU as an option to buy, I recently even completed Uncommons and I'm now at 27/40 rares (update from 25/40, when I wrote the previous post). When Ixalan is out, getting the missing cards will become harder, as most standard events will reward Ixalan cards, but I have already a somewhat good collection.

My situation about old packs, however:

I know KLD will become legacy, and so will be craftable for a lower cost, but looking at legacy, you can realize the deep pocket it is, which I don't know if I will even be able to complete. I'm currently playing legacy events, getting packs as rewards (that sometimes give at least a new unc / common - I still miss 11 legacy commons), as rares, and trying to craft mythics. Because of this, I don't really care about getting more legacy cards than standard.

Yeah, but MAYBE you guys are correct. Even considering how I will become quickly full of dupes, maybe the bonus to craft is something to lift my legacy collection as well. This is a game of chance:

If I buy KLD or ORI:
Chance of new cards - dupes at normal rating. Probably it won't f**k my Ixalan collection in the long range.

If I save for Ixalan
Will get Ixalan cards and several dupes of what I could get later. Dupes will initially have a convert bonus. Maybe my Ixalan collection will be a bit stronger in the long run.

Does the convertion bonus balance the new cards I would get from spending crystals? Dunno: my 2 last fat packs from KLD gave me 2M, 2R and 3U for new cards.

Hmmm... I have to do a decision. I believe I will try saving and see how things go. It will help me in case I need to decide the same situation in the future.

Thanks for tracking your drops! I've imported your data so far into the drop rates spreadsheet.

We actually have a fair bit of 3-pack data recorded (nearly 4000 cards), but over 80% of that is from way back when 3-packs were daily rewards. More recent data is definitely valuable, since it's the only way to figure out whether drop rates changed at any point.
