I'm for it on the condition we get daily reports on the shenanigans.

No go at the library. I'll add it to the list to check out at the various places that I hit. Apparently I've only really read most of Milligan's pre-2k stuff. He's more run of the mill for me (90s work) in that he tries, but simply can't hit the highs of the other M&Ms (Moore and Morrison).

Definitely agree there boss - while I do love Milligan's work, Moore and Morrison (controversial as the opinion may be) are two of my favorite writers of all time... I find myself drawn to even their less-popular work. I typically enjoy their cape work more than their non-superhero work but that's just my taste... like I never really got into Transmetropolitan even though I'm typically an Ellis fan (which is odd because I love The Invisibles). Milligan's X-Force/X-Statix run is a hell of a lotta fun though... icon_e_smile.gif

The Marvel universe is so big, and to be honest I'm not that big of a fan in terms of their storytelling. They just seem to like mega-big events (Civil War! Secret Invasion! Annihilation!).

If you have a bit of a lag and you enjoy superhero books (I know this is kinda an event too, but it's a within-title/family event that only spans two books & not the entire 616), I absolutely LOVED Jonathan Hickman's run on Fantastic Four/FF... I still enjoy his current Avengers run plenty but it was Hickman's run that made me fall in love with a set of characters that I never quite enjoyed before. I mean I can respect Kirby/Lee's run and Byrne's to a lesser extent (Kirby/Lee both because I'm a huge Kirby-ite and it's essentially the formation of the Marvel Universe/Multiverse as a whole), but I just never had a connection to them... never a read on what I'd want from a Fantastic Four story until I read Hickman's run. Now I can appreciate other FF stories I never could before because they align with my ideal concept of the FF... sure it won't be for everyone but I can't imagine a father (not that I am one myself, but you'll understand if/when you read it) not catching a feel or two from his run. icon_e_geek.gif

OOH, just in case you're interested there's a damaged copy on eBay that would be perfectly readable for $25 ($32 w/ shipping)!! 1200 pages of awesome can seldom be found for that cheap anywhere... icon_e_biggrin.gif

  • While I will continue to play the game, I am getting married in August (300+ guests), going on two week honeymoon, then moving to the UK for law school in September so... I may not be so active in chat over the next few months. Not that I was before, but hey, now I have an excuse. Crunch time!

    WOW, that's a lot of change! *lol* CONGRATULATIONS X 3 though, that's awesome!! icon_e_biggrin.gificon_e_biggrin.gificon_e_biggrin.gif

Well you will certainly have your hands full with that lot going on. Congratulations on getting married and I hope the move across the pond goes smoothly for you. Thanks for letting us know.
  • Yeah I will let you know if I am going to either miss or flop any events, but I should be able to remain consistent for the near future.

I finally got a chance to read MiracleMan recently and wow, given the era when it was written, that was mind-blowing. Ellis to me = Planetary. I'll have to check out Hickman's run. The last run of FF I read was ... maybe Waid's? Yeah I'll keep an eye out for XstatiX. I could just ebay it, but I get significantly more joy if I 'find' it out in the wild. And as you can tell with my 3* transition, I don't have a problem waiting icon_lol.gif

*LOL* Well said, sir, well said... completely get it though, it's a thrill to find something out in the wild either completely random or (better still) something you've been looking for when you don't expect it. I can't tell you the number of times, particularly before the wider advent of TPBs, I scoured comic shops/yard sales/flea markets in concentric circles outward from my home looking to complete runs on books I was interested in... not that I really have the time for it these days (as my recent score output certainly reinforces *lol*), but man those were fun little adventures.

OMG, absolutely on both MarvelMan/MiracleMan and Planetary... it's that kinda stuff that keeps me reading, holding out hope the next series I pick up is as thrilling as something like that. The Hickman FF run really was for me but it won't be for everyone, I'm sure... and yeah, the Waid/Wieringo FF was amazing as well in a completely different way. Can't wait to see what you think after you have some time to read it... imagine that, finding fellow comic geeks in a MPQ forum. icon_e_wink.gif

I'm surprised to not see one person say extending 3* covers down to 100 is a cash grab to get people to have to buy more slots for those extra 3* sooner and sooner in their MPQ life. icon_e_wink.gifLove the changes, now I can finally quit my pesky alliance! icon_lol.gif

Yeah, and while my financial situation has improved dramatically since graduate school, I still do enjoy these little things immensely. It's good to have adventures every once in a while and it helps that I live close by to this nerd paradise:

Last nerdstravaganza, I got to spend a couple of hours at Wondercon. Got books signed by S. Aragones, M. Evanier, C. Chiang, T. Edwards, G. Simone, R. Vendetti, and M. Waid for the big names. C. Chiang even did a quickie Wonder Woman sketch for me. It was a good day.

Also completely unrelated to anything we've been talking about lately - anyone watching Spain v. Chile? Pretty good game, Chile is really working their **** off. Kinda had a feeling they would take it to Spain as much as possible. Anyway, it's a shame there's no ESPN app for the PS3, I've got normal computer stuff and watching World Cup on the ipad - with no phone to play MPQ, what am I supposed to do?! These LRs can't play themselves.

Holy LORD sir, that is AWESOME (both the giant geek factory and the Wondercon swag)... I'd be psyched for like ONE of those signatures, much less several (or the sketch, I'm a BIG fan of Chiang's WW right now). Color me green... icon_mrgreen.gif

Since we are friends again. icon_e_wink.gif Chile have been fantastic, considering that if Spain lose they are out, they have never let them build up a head of steam. I love the way they play. Aussies against the Dutch was a crazy game earlier as well.

It's all nerd all the time. Good call, I do not recommend bringing kids, it would blow their minds.

I actually haven't read his WW, though I am familiar with the work. I brought issues of Human Target for him to sign strangely enough. The sketch is by no means an awesome work of art, but it's a nice memento. Some guys are really nice about quick sketches, others not so much. He was one of the nice guys.
