Hei Zhen Zhu wrote:I'm first in bracket for now in LSS with 627, closest to me has 510. Easy node thor is lvl 46 Hard 66. Interesting reading - Im in top 50 across the event (which is my target)kidicarus wrote:
We're at #7 for lone star skirmish! Go Team! I'm current holding #1 position at 300ish pts, will tank lightning rounds to make sure that only newbies get match made against me and make a push tomorrow evening.
I've tried a bit of tanking before but it didn't seem to do anything, my method was to enter the LR and kill a couple of seed teams then use an awful line up. But I only lose a few matches for a point or 2, am I missing something about tanking as if the purpose is to lower the Match ranking points then how does it do it?
Thanks
My PVE bracket is full of slackers. I've not started the 2nd sub-event and I'm still in 13th place at 53k same as yesterday.
Now re: tanking, I don't know how useful you'll find this but I've been able to tank my MMR down so that I meet players who only have 1 page rosters, and therefore the people who are match made against me often have no answer and will skip my 2 lvl 141s and an 85 OBW crew. When climbing the ranks, this also means that the featured character is normally very low level eg a lvl 15/18 lazy thor or BP.. their rosters are not fully developed so for example, in the first lazy thor tournament, I managed to get more than 500 pts in about an hour without getting attacked and it's often quite easy to get to 800 without needing to use a shield.
I tank the LR by joining in the 1st 10 seconds of the event starting. If I'm really lucky I can get to 200pts purely on seed teams alone (this is for farming iso). You don't earn rating by beating seed teams so the higher you go the more you get noticed and the more points and ratings you stand to lose. At that point in a good tanking run I can get a few pages worth of losses. I save Freerangecage who normally has a lvl 15/1/1 team for my tank team consisting of 5/5 lvl 6 bullseye and fully covered MN Magneto lvl 6 which, combined with a lvl 15 donor character is basically free points for whoever can be bothered to attack me.0 -
Now that I have 5 Spidey blue... I can't live without him! Makes those matches which I struggle or which I was wiped out eariler, much much more easier.0
-
@kidicarus: good for you, mine is all gung-ho and crazy, i made a mistake joining the bracket early, i forgot they put you in main bracket once we clear the sim basics.
@kensterr: yes... now you know why we get too hooked up with spidey sometimes. i pair him up with MN Magneto + another damage dealer whenever the fight gets difficult, but there's a downside to that. you feel like you are working rather than playing
so for the current subs, i use spidey + MN Mag + Doom a lot. Actually you can use that to beat lazy thor if your doom is high enough. When the scaling goes back to 230 later on, i substitute doom with punisher (when doom isn't required).0 -
Ah shucks, don't tell me that guess a couple of blue covers could be a sound investment0

quoting IceIX on Lord of Thunder pvp tourney:
It's got Alliance rewards, yes. Currently the top 3* reward is Patch and the event now has its own Comic Pack which it didn't have before.
Looks like they want everyone to have a busy week! >.<0 -
great job in LSS guys! we came in #9.
i'll try to get as many pts as i can for LoT. although my lazy thor isn't too strong yet.
but seriously, the last week has been tough enough, so dont push yourself too hard i'm quite weary myself from grinding the sim and pvp at the same time.0 -

Congrats on our highest placing ever!
It was nice to log in this morning to find a shower of iso from the alliance pve sub-events and the one star tournament. Finished top with 750 and got my hood up to 5/5/3 and my 1st blue IW cover so I'm very happy with that.
Today I learnt that your personal scaling is shown in Simulator basics with the 2 completed events. Sim prep 1 for me shows 60 and sim prep 2 shows 69. Once you get a large enough roster you don't have to rely on spider-man to help with the pve nodes. In fact I've been actively avoiding him and using a lot of classic magneto, modern storm, ares (basically my 2nd tier heroes) and they've been quite effective with helping me tackle the harder fights. You definitely don't need to spend time grinding the pve - the next sub-event I'll be joining the night (so just the 1 refresh) before to maximise the rubber banding since I can't play Saturday morning to protect my position as I will be in Medan, Indonesia for some meetings!
LOT is the first pvp event where I don't actually need any of the prizes - I don't use patch he's 5/5/3 and low levelled for me currently because I don't like how you have to wait for the right conditions to use his powers. Having said that, having him at 141 with 5/3/5 build seems really strong if you're running a team without a healer especially if he's taking a lot of hits for you. Will see whether I have time for the pvp event or not.0 -
Hope that we get Patch as alliance reward. When I eventually get enough covers for my own Patch, I'd pair him up with Loki. Should be quite a fun pairing to play with.0

i don't quite understand why the 3rd sub doesn't feature lazy thor as the buffed hero to coincide with LoT tournament. I spent most of my iso for leveling bp.
@kidicarus: i never use tanking before as i like to challenge myself, but this time i think i have to resort to that method. Is it working if i tank in shield training? or do i have to tank in tournament?0 -
Hi,
I'm keen to leave my alliance as I seem to carry it regularly only a couple seem to play.
I play everyday I haven't played for long but have jumped up fast
I'm from New Zealand I think this can help as I'm at the other end of the time frame
I have loads of 3 stars only 1 over 100 but I'm about to spend some coin to bulk up
Just want a active plan can you help.
You can msg me xbox nzdillz
Or email nzdillz@hotmail.com0 -

I tank exclusively in the lightning rounds for various reasons, it's unbracketed and quite a lot of people play it. Shield training doesn't really work as I don't think anyone actually plays it these days, and tanking in proper tournaments is counter productive to what you're trying to achieve ie top tier prize positions which reward 3* covers and HP, those positions are even more valuable now that they're the only way to really earn HP on a consistent basis.
The challenge is not the fact that you can beat 3x141s, this is after all match 3 candy crush/bejewelled gameplay - you can do it easily. The challenge is that for as long as you have a roster that isn't intimidating you will be attacked when you're making your climb and before you put up your shields and you'll stress youself out playing more hours and to place well. I tank because I want to avoid those cycles where I fight a 17 point battle only to have lost 50 or more points in the time it took me to complete a match. During my climb from 450 - 700 yesterday and spending roughly 90 minutes, I didn't get attacked once and that's what you're trying to achieve in successful tanking - not the easier match ups.0 -
That's a good point kidicarus. i'll tank myself later in the lightning round.
Thanks!0 -

Well done all!
Yeah. I'm weary myself too last night from grinding both sim and pvp. Managed to scrape through all 3 with tops though
And hello Pucco in the hard sim bracket!0 -
Congrats on the 9th overall everyone!
I'm not sure I'm following how this tanking works, so its not actually about my match ups its about who sees my roster? but what does the tanking actually do?
Thanks in advance0 -
Can't play much until Sunday - fell sick.
Gonna try to push for LOT though... wanna get that Patch cover!0 -

It is about your match ups and the team that you put up in a tournament. For example If you don't tank and you're seeing lvl 100+ teams and you're running lvl 85s. Firstly you've got a strength disadvantage against the team that you have been matchmade against. Secondly, you're going to be a juicy target that is easy for them to take down. If you attack them and you have more points than them, you've just guaranteed yourself a retaliation. So you're in a lose lose position.
This is a match 3 game - given that we often find ourselves fighting against groups that outlevel you in pve, it's no surprise that your winning record against other players is likely going to be 100% or close to it whenever you attack. This effects your MMR since it doesn't take into account your roster strength but your performances against teams that you're matchmade against.
So how do you make yourself less attractive? Well 1 way is to level your characters up to 141 to make your group less appetising.
The other way is to tank. By tanking instead of making your team stronger, you're making your opponents weaker and this does 2 things. Yes you have easier match ups but the more important effect is that relative to your weaker opponents, you'll be less attractive to them. Why attack a team which outlevels you by 30-50 levels when you get the same amount of points from attacking a team with a similar strength to yours? It is this psychological effect that allows you to climb to a top 5 placing relatively easily.0 -
Hey guys, looks like we're gonna have chat feature in R50. That's good news.
I'm not too sure whether i was lucky or many people didn't really play yesterday, but i managed to climb back to the top.
My hard sub bracket is even worse, i was still no 1 even after i sleep (hey jazz, where are you?? )0 -
I suspect either people are really tired of the event or it's too hard for some of them due to enemy levels. Or they could just make a last minute big push on Saturday. >.<0
-
In other card trading games that actually have a chat function, people still prefer to use Line for chats so having in-game chat will only help a bit.
My brackets for the subs are a bit weird. For the hard, I dropped from 1 to 17 overnight. For the normal, I maintained my #1 spot. I would have expected the opposite to happen since the normal is now giving out points on a comparable basis to the hard. The community scaling is doing bad things to the nodes in hard. Almost everything is now deadly.0 -
Thanks for the detailed response there Kidicarus, I think I get it now.
Seems though I have got into a pretty decent bracket for the LordofT. Although now I've said that its probably the kiss if death!0
