could someone explain what happened in this PvE with the points. i'm a little lost and confused

Join the club... I read 60% of the thread, seems a few hours in the community target was changed from 200k to 400k AND the node point values to like 1/3 of what they have. What means people playing before that got a several thousand pts head start on everyone else. And rubberbanding with other magics looks not working for the catchup really as it's either based on mixed stuff or just went haywire. icon_e_smile.gif

An interesting thought: last heroic event was repeated right after it finished, wonder if they offer another chance to foul up Heroic Oscorp or it will get buried and banned for all the future as cursed stuff.

    some advice here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7026&start=60#p133843

Last heroic was two and a half days, this one is a week. There isn't going to be a repeat.

Well I'm hoping at least they fix the rubberbanding and the node points so when I bust out of my 400 Million, bracket, I can catch up in the main. So ridicuolous, basically in order to stop people from getting progression rewards and just changing that number, they decided to mess up the entire tournament.
  • I've been mulling over the most recent fiasco for a while now. I don't mind getting up in the middle of the night to place better. I don't mind repeatedly playing tedious missions to improve my odds. I don't mind adapting to an ever changing set of user hostile game rules. I do, however, mind seeing all effort spent go to waste because the game continues to be run in a way any professional game company would be deeply ashamed to admit.

I'll play along and see how things turn out this time. If I still end up achieving my average PvE placement against all odds, either due to another change in scoring, event reset, reworked reward structure or support intervention, then I'm willing to believe this game is actually trying to improve on past mistakes. If this leads to yet another lesson at customer dissatisfaction I'll consider it past time to move on to greener, better tended pastures. Consistency is just a virtue if you are not a screw up.
  • You know, it is interesting to think back on the progression of the game. There have been a lot of improvements overall. I don't miss always facing Rags, or Thor/C.Storm, or Thorverine in every match. Those nerfs were controversial, but they made the game better overall. Shields were controversial, but I nobody misses having to babysit their score at the end of every tournament. Rubber banding turned out to be a net positive i think, although the initial implementation was horribly broken.

So yeah, as always two steps forward one step back with D3. This heroic event is a major f up, no doubt about it. I think we are seeing the first attempt at some new mechanic (undisclosed of course, why tell the players the rules of the game). This must be the first attempt at it, which in true D3 style is broken beyond belief when first implemented.

I'm overall not too stressed about this specific event. It would be a shame to miss out on the shiny new covers, but they will run a PvP soon with his covers anyways. In a months time some of will be selling some *** daken covers I bet. I'm actually more worried about what Daken will mean for the game balance then anything else.

Lastly, regarding the long term viability of the game. Is D3 a poorly run game company? Sure, but we knew this already. I think what matters is whether or not you find the core game mechanic to still be fun. I like this game because I like the match 3 mechanic, I can play it in short bursts, and I get that feeling of progress as I gain covers and level up characters.

In that sense, the scaling on steroids is the worst change yet because it removes the sense of gaining power as you progress. PvP is fun because you can feel your roster progress. PvE with scaling loses that currently. If they can make PvE better (the thread on this has some really good ideas), then I think the game is viable long term. If PvE keeps punishing those with good rosters, it will make the game stale. I am optimistic that it can be turned around. But we will see.

you make some very valid points and put some things into perspective.
  • I'm not sure where PVP is heading, it looks like loss got completely removed from MMR formula what means we're all heading to the MMR hell some already reached without any road backwards. Certainly if I have to exclusively fight 141 teams in the future that is that for me. What progression then?

PVE also looks playable only in first days too.

They said pretty early on they want games take 5-10 minutes. And worked really hard to make it so too. Now just calculate the number of games it needs for some worthy placement in either PVP or PVE and multiply with that. Makes sense?

  • Do we have another Kyipgate with Nazerith in top gun or it was only for that one guy to see him several times?

I'm not "that one guy" icon_razz.gif
Actually I don't think he was shielded, he just gained points quicker than he lost points to me, or something.

And if PVP means fights against 141s from the start, _but_ also means that I get 40 pointers all the way up to 1000, and 30 pointers after that, I _might_ just be ok with it.
All it took was switching from Punisher/Hood to Patch/CMags to get up to speed and cut waaaaayyyy back on health pack usage.

*waiting for Phantron to berate me for using broken CMags in the first place*

I'm sure he will not icon_e_smile.gif That's same team I'm using most lately and he used too before switching to LT he beretes even more -- with good reason at that too. But not the usage on our part just the designers and devs.

Having 40+ matches is really some good, for me at least aiming to go up faster, some people cry for lost ISO from more small-pointers. My usual offers were 2x85 last tournement, now mostly 100-120-ers.

I tried passive tanking in top gun, not much success, more than a day collected exactly 4 hits on my bagman team planted little over 300. Next tournament looks similar tankfest I will try it at 500.

The heroic points look sensible at the moment though I kinda recall seeing the 200k target so should have entered before the change too. Levels on the Ares node already climbed to 110.
  • After refresh I played 3 games on essentials and 3 best-point others that was enough to be #1 in sub and main for the time. Rampage leveled to 118, the essentials 63-70, yet no problem for max patch. Community at 240k, so probably 1 more refresh to go.

Prizes got updated so covers go down to 150 instead of 100, some good.

Also, daken strike tiles got nerfed almost to half.
  • After talking with some of You via in-game chat and via Steam chat (once again - if You're playing via Steam, pls add me - emerytpl ), the decision was made:

We are waiting till Wednesday for any reaction from Sugarman. So far He's afk from both game and forums since monday. He didn't even read my post in this thread, which was directed to Him mostly. Hopefully He will be back since Wednesday and He will help us sort things out and together we'll be able to decide what we should do.

If Sugarman won't reach us till Wednesday, we already have a substition. A player who is highly active both in game and on forums and whom I find to be one of most friendly people in here. He will for sure bring a lot of experience to our alliance.

It's not an easy situation for me personally, but I think that when I have to choose between 1 and 19 persons being satisfied, the choice is obvious. I think it's the right thing to do, but it doesn't make me feel any less bad about it...
  • Interesting talk on likely bracketing changes viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7098

If confirmed and stays that way the future of MPQ is not really bright.

My situation is unchanged from when I responded a few days ago. I still will not have time to play competitively, if hardly at all for at least a few weeks (seasonal work). I still like how it was suggested to stick around to at least get the Nick Fury reward, but I understand if you wish to replace me. Either way I am thankful for my time with the scAvengers and have had a blast and wish good luck to everyone.

Damn sad, you were around right from the start when we couldn't even afford a capital A in out alliance name. And I still remember that eyecatcher sig. Any chance to get you back if a spot opens in a few weeks from now?

The eye catcher sig was actually the Marvel character Sugarman. He is a little known villain from the Age of Apocalypse. He is actually a really nasty and vile fan of cruelty, torture, and various unspeakables. He also looks really crazy because he has no torso, his head is his body with his limbs springing forth from it. He has four arms and he wields medieval weapons. I am a fan of his character because of how over the top and out there his concept is.

As far as the alliance goes, I can't see myself joining any other alliance, I am a scAvenger in heart and mainly in it for the comradery. If it is decided I should be removed before or after the end of the season for the good of the alliance, I would take no offense what so ever and would most definitely be available to rejoin when my schedule opens back up because I probably would not be interested in playing alone. It is a lot of fun when we are making pushes near the end of an event and I hope to experience it again when time allows. Anyways, I am going to play a couple quick matches and then crash, I am so sunbaked.

    Start an alliance 'the ex-scAvengers'.

If they start Season2 right as S1 ends (what is quite likely ) I'll switch over this time next week.

Make it "the scAvenged" and I'm all ears. Beginning to feel the burnout after the most recent "improvements", wonder where they get all those anti-fun ideas from.

You and me, Bro. I'm still standing but think more and more about going back to real life.
  • Just so You know:

My current state of mind: **** this game. I don't want to be a part of a game where the devs clearly show us that we're nothing more than wallets.

I fed up with the changes, as 80% of them are making this game more and more unfriendly.

So take into consideration that there might be a vacancy in the scAvengers.

In fact, if not for You becoming homeless, I'd suggest all of us leaving the scAvengers. Just to make a statement.
