** A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT **
I apologize for what might be a long post and let me give you some background. I do a lot of PvP and PvE. As of late, last couple of weeks, my rankings and contributions have been slipping from what they once were. And, this is Why.
My personal in game, MMR for both PvP and PvE is through the roof. Your "Match Making Rating" affects which opponents will come up for you as options to fight in pvp events and will directly affect the diffculty (level) of PvE opponents.
There does not appear to be a "ceiling" on this invisible, unknown number. There does however appear to be a floor. How it goes up, noone is sure. How it goes down is long and tedious. It is important to keep this under control, lest you be a masochist (kind of like me).
So, how does it go up... Speculation dictates in percentages of "overall" damage taken Vs. Damage given + characters in the round. So, if you are going up against 3 x 395 with a total of 70K health and walk away unscathed (no damage) your MMR is going to go UP! You are probably already at or above the "ceiling". If you are above, than getting it down is that much longer. Likely, if you are walking away from a 3 x 395 fight with no damage taken, you have a Spidey or OBW in your party (hence speculation of character in group aiding in MMR rising). Doing this for too long is BAD!
Same goes for PvP. Win a few fights and all of a sudden, you are presented with only capped 3* adversaries... Making your life in climbing ranks harder! This needs to be kept under control.
In my experiences and experiments, PvP MMR is much easier to control than PvP, because you are going to get hit back... You are going to lose rounds and everything balances out.
In PvE, in a 10 day event for example, you are going to win, grind and beat as many points out as possible. This is where it gets complicated, because for each of those victories, your MMR is rising. Depending on the outcome, by a little bit, or by a lot. Remember, speculation dictates, by damage done Vs. taken.
Recap of Simulator (Tonzil's story):
- Simulator begins - 2 nodes Easy and Hard. Both nodes present 3 x 395... What?? Yes, that is correct, even the easy start node is already at 395 x 3. Ouch! So, what to do? Spidey/Mn. Mags/Punisher (for the "big kill shots").
- Enter Easy simulator (day 1). Every single presented node, without exception is 3 x 395. This is NOT going to be fun. What to do? Well, start putting theories into practice. Off to the Hard entry node. Oh tinykitty!!! Level 395 Spidey. I am tinykittyed beyond belief.
- The beginnging (day 1): I have 39 covers, all with acceptable levels and HP to boot. Put together a 3 man team and watch Spidey and his friends rip me apart in bout 1 minute... My Roster is dead. Off to the Easy Sim and the first node allows me to take the remaining 3 covers and make a tem to get eaten alive in about a minute. That's 13 fights, straight off and a dead roster. Check the levels... Nothing changed! Holy tinykitty. Take out 5 health packs and heal my highest level, most HP and most waiting to bring back to life/heal covers.
- Roughly 3 hours later... 5 Health packs again! How's my roster doing? Not so great, still lots of people to heal up... What to do? Wait it out. 5 Health packs, rince and repeat.
- Another 3 hours go by... 5 more health packs and a roster that has most of 1* and 2* stars at full health and I burned through healthpacks to get the 3*s up again. Let's try this again... and again.
- Day 2: This is ridiculous. At this points I have tanked my whole roster 4 times. That's 52 straight complete, total wipes and Nothing! It's 8 a.m. EST on day 2. Had a good 8 hours and have full healthy roster. This is ridiculous and Not working. But oh well. I take my team and throw it to the wolves. Prep the next 3 in the roster and... it happens, right there before my eyes. The Hard node entry is down to 372 x3. Did that really just happen? I know it's not much, but it did... I start looking at the "Easy Sim nodes". I did not expect this at all....
** It seems, even though you are tanking on a node in particular, other Nodes my go down in levels before you see a change in the one you are grinding. Some of my nodes are now down from 395 x 3 to 332 x3, others are at 360... But the Hard start node just went down. Time to start paying more attention.
- Rince and repeat above, throw everything you have, die, heal, wait... And observe. Well, I'll be damned, random (at least to me) nodes are starting to drop ranks/levels but not the one I am repeatedly dying on. Things are beginning to get manageable... I might actually make it into this tournament. By midnight, on day 2 (36 hours into the Simulator event), I have wiped approximately 130 fights (from full health). The hard entry node, now sits at 3 x 122... I can fight this, I can kill this!! I AM IN!!!
The tournament has finally ended, and not too soon at that. The "non essential nodes" had just hit 395 x 3 (hard mode) and the essentials were still in the 270 ~ 290 range. Which means, I think, my MMR was still reasonable. Apparently, at the end of a Tourney/Start of a new one, there is a reset of your MMR (percentage again??) If it through the ceiling as mine was, you will not see this as reflected in the start of the event. People starting at 40s others in 300s. We will see what the next tournament brings...
If I can suggest to anybody, one thing, it takes about 20 minutes to kill your roster off. Before going to bed (8 hours of sleep?) It is worth keeping your MMR under control and losing a bunch of fights to the point of dessimating your roster. It might not be immediately obvious, but it is definitely worth it in the long run.

Very interesting read Tonzil. I have a question for you. Does the overall damage taken Vs. Damage given in one event (such as PvP) directly affect the MMR of another event (such as PvE) that is currently running? Likewise, would the battles in Story Mode affect the MMR of either?
If the answer is no, then that may explain why my Essential Node battles were all either easy or moderate in difficulty the entire event. To save health packs, I would fight each node without a healer most of the time so they would take damage, then I'd go over to the Story mode to play a bunch of goons on the Dark Avengers story with BWO in the group, knowing that I could easily use the Anti-Gravity Device once or twice to heal each battle without taking much if any damage. After one or two very quick rounds of that, I'd go back to attacking the PvE essentials again with a healthy team without BWO (my spider man is way too low level to even bring up) and then repeat the cycle throughout the day. At times I'd use to health pack if my time was limited and then at night I'd exhaust them as well then leave my team damaged before going to sleep.0 -

@Tonzil: It's clear that exploiting spiderman is the only reason why people were seeing 395 enemies. I'm not saying it's wrong to use spiderman like that but the devs have introduced a penalty for it. It's fine to use him but I think if people want to avoid that kind of scaling then it's time to start playing spiderman differently.
- Focus on getting protect tiles out.
- Only stun if the enemy is about to unleash a "killing" blow to one of your heroes
- Only heal if you're about to loose a hero.
- DON'T finish fights with full health
- Use spidey to heal in prologue and PvP
From what I heard you were able to beat the 395 level teams, so in a way the scaling was "correct", even if it was ridiculous.
It was very interesting to read how much effort it took you to bring the scaling down and it's good to know that it DOES work although quite slowly.RWTDBurn wrote:

@RWTDBurn: This is the way to do it. Prologue doesn't affect any of your "hidden" stats. I used OBW in the Simulator just to steal AP. I would avoid healing unless I was about to lose a hero.
Also, to the best of my knowledge PvE MMR doesn't affect PvP MMR and vice versa.0 -

CMag "infinite turns" trick also affects pve scaling.
So, no "perfect" win, no perpetual stun-lock, no infinite turns.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
From what I can gather, PvE MMR does not affect PvP MMR nd vice versa. They are 2 separate values.
The prologue does not scale. So all enemies are statically ssigned levels and do not (for the moment) change in value. So the prologue does not seem to affect overall MMR.
Rumors have it that penalties have been handed out for Spidey/Mags/OBW abusing.
It does super suck, that the scaling is working as intended. Although, being said, with the amount of covers, it is hard to have an A-Team for me right now. I am doing my best to toss ISO at different toons all the time. Just trying to maintain a 2*/3* baseline of level 50. And than up levels as needed. You know, for example in "The hunt"... Brining bagman from level 20 to 55 was an ISO pit. I would have rather kicked Lazy Thor up 10 or 15 levels instead of burning that Iso on Bagman... But, what can you do. It is what it is. For the moment, tht is my burden to deal with. I have a 100 Spidey with 5 blue. I am trying to "heal less" in the battles, but for time being, unfortunately, he is still my go to because of the scaling. It's a vicious cycle. Should hve all that under control shortly. Building bck Iso reserves and pumping out where/when necessary. Slowly the 3*s are coming up. I have all but abandonned my quest of 'all maxed out 1*s" for the moment. For the moment all my 2 and 3* covers are at level 40+ ironically
That should start working out for me shortly.0 -
On a different note...
Top Gun tourney?! Whats up with the 1100 point Rag Reward?? And patch as a reward? Guess who's coming up next. Next PvP tourney is geared towards the "Ace of Blades" alliance who should be ubber excite right now.
But, Rags for 1100 points?! Damn, I was hoping to get my hands on another Falcon at 1100...
Has anyone gotten the Doom rewards yet? Ended 1 hour ago...0 -
Doctor's Orders round 2... now we're cooking with gas! Rank 40!!! Amazing job everyone. It was touchy cause were hovering in the 80s most of the morning. Turns out, most of us in America sneak in a bit of play during the workday. I won't tell. Unless you're also working in my office in a different alliance. Wouldn't that be strange?
The points to remain competitive are getting higher. Don't know if people just want Falcon, need points for their Season, or if alliance grudges are heating up. Or all of the above. Do we have any alliance grudges? I mean, who's CH4 News Team. They're everywhere we want to be.
Thanks everyone for an awesome finish. Now get some rest. Or LR tank. Whatever.0 -

Falcon covers have few and not far between. I was lucky enough to pick up all the ones offered, including the alliance rewards, thank you everyone; and have him at 4/3/3. So, I think, for all of us (like me) that don't buy covers/cover packs, they really wanted him.
I am finding it odd, very odd, that they are shoving Rags at us like never before... Doesn't anyone else? I mean, milestone rewards in Simulator, and Top Gun... Which normally should have been a Falcon reward... Do we have some ridiculous Rags tourney coming up? Maybe a reverse prologue, something like you are the aggressor, capture Stark tower... Wouldn't that be funny.
OR, I think they put up a progression reward that nobody wants (or almost) with a Patch overall reward... Should bring the competitiveness of "Top Gun" down a little and mybe allow others to rank/win for a change... I for one don't care for the rewards, but definitely want the season points.0 -

I think we should choose a nemesis alliance.
Is there a smurf alliance? or rainbowbrite, i'll even settle for a strawberry shortcake allianceas as a nemesis.

Just don't make it a Thundercats alliance, those cats are too badass!
Now if there is an Alliance named after this particular 80's cartoon then they must be our nemesis. There's only room for one family of bears in this forest

The first PvP tourneys that hand out a certain cover are always competitive. Remember the Hulk event that handed out Torch for the first time, and how we squeaked into Top 100 at the last moments?
I was flirting with 900 last night but a bad cascade ended my night (2* Wolv Adamantium Slash on the first turn that the AI got to move. Huge cascade, leading to a 5 match which allowed AI to Slash me turn 1). Simultaneously got attacked and shielded at 801. I was a few points above #11 but I knew for sure it was not gonna hold up.
Today I check the rankings. Ranked #26 dooh. I was expecting Top 25. Rank #10 was Centurion at 970. In the previous tourney that would have been good for 1st or 2nd in my bracket. Point scores seem to be trending upwards a little, but I don't expect every PvP to be this competitive.0 -
So many things I want to address...
Where did our Awesome alliance images come from??? I'd love more of them.
@Tonzil: Time to stop spreading out the Iso. Get 2 maxed characters and then go back to spreading out ISO.
Regarding alliance genesis:
- I did a search for alliance names with "Bears" in the title. No other "bear" alliance is big enough to compete with us.
- Alliances with "Duck" in the name: "Duck them all" and "Just Duck It" are full alliances. These two are near us in the Season ranking.
As for Rags, I think maybe they realised how little he's been featured since the nerf or maybe their statistics was telling them that most new players don't have him. It was about time they started handing out more rags. I agree it's strange how much they've been giving him out though. I've sold 2 before I finally accepted him into my BearBossom.
A story episode told from the bad guys point of view would be great apart from the fact that Loki(110)/Hood(64)/Doom(54) are my main bad guys.0 -
I got a soft bracket, but the differences between the top 10 were slim..

How high have you all leveled your Falcon? I went up to my max 51 and now his Yellow is better than all my 2 **s but Thor (after PVP buff). If not too late, be careful when leveling him if you want to have someone else like AWolv covering his yellow.0

Think I have him at 62. He tanks Yellow and Purple on my Punisher/Psylocke team. If I swap in OBW for Psylocke I think he only tanks yellow then.0 -

I've got mine to 67, if I remember right, and I'll probably take him to his soft cap of 77. My OCD finally hit the point where I'm going to level up the 3*s and 4*s below their soft caps up to their soft caps, partially because some of them I think are going to be useful in the short term (Falcon, since he's the newest, and Spidey, since I think he's about to get his rebalance and thus will start getting dropped into events again) and partially because I feel like it.
I think that means taking Spidey from 66 to 89, Loki from 77 to 89, Falcon from 20 (where he was beginning of the day yesterday) to 77, Invisible Woman from 75 to 90, and X-Force Wolverine from 34 to 75 (soft cap right now) and then 90 (soft cap either this afternoon or tomorrow - getting a yellow from daily rewards). It means I'll have every 3* or 4* except Human Torch (still stuck at 30th) at at least 77th level, which also means no more of these major leveling expeditions again for a while.
Yes, I know. You don't have to say it.0 -

IIRC 45 or 50. Is the standard lvl for characters i dont use but are featured in pvp
although with the new changes a fully lvled falcon seems interesting.0 -

I know, I know. I just never know who to throw ISO at next...
And than there is this event starting...
UGH... classic storm and bullseye... 1* characters? Really?
So Storm just hit her 50 cap, and I am actually considering capping Bullseye (35 currently), just to get him out of the way from Iso eating, FOREVER!
Thor, the bastards, always have him buffed in tourneys. Mine sits at 75 and am considering sending him up to 85... Just because he is "featured" often...
Oh well, Heroic mode... Lazy Daken... He is going to be everywhere soon enough...0
