5* Characters effects on PVP/PVE

If the 2-3* transitioners are worried about scaling and mmr, why open the Legendary tokens yet? Having 4*s on your roster will effect your mmr too unless you **** your roster, but then what's the sense of putting them on your roster,. With the price of roster slots, you're better off building your roster with a solid core of 3*. Seems like common sense to me.0

They want the 4* covers for essential nodes. Can't fault them for that.0 -

4 stars start at level 70 and have no effect on your base levels because of that. 70 < 94
Plus they're needed for essentials.0 -
since my comment is in the locked thread and not over here,
anecdotal single point, so not much data, but I had not yet entered iso brotherhood when I rostered both ss and oml yesterday, and before I leveled hb from 168 to 200. I entered last night and sub 1 essentials looked very similar to before (120s-140). I did not play through a clear - just was playing around a little. just entered today's sub and again, essentials don't look much different. top 3 on roster before were 168/166/166 and are now 255/255/200. we'll see how it goes moving forward. if I accidentally play through a clear, i'll report on the level of the harder nodes in the sub. those nodes 7, 8, and 9 used to start in the 160-190 range.
I will say the thing I noticed most today in pvp was a drastic change in opposing TU that they're given. they used to get random, nebulus 3* abilities and they are now all 4* abilities so far. hb red, thing, jean - although they are still undercovered so they don't kill you, they just look scary. pretty sure I was already in the highest pvp brackets, so the matchups really aren't any different than I already had - mid 100s to start and quickly hitting 200+, ending with full 4* teams - all par for the course.
edit: I went ahead and finished an entire clear last night - I'm not sure my new scaling has kicked in. my top node was ~220ish and that is about normal for me - no change. we'll see what galactus is like, but I have nothing to compare that to. probably won't have a clear answer until the first pve after galactus.0 -

That has nothing to do with SS.. i have been seeing loads of 4* team ups used against me lately as well.. but i do not have any 5* toons.0 -
Sorry, but I can't bring myself to feel bad for the people that are doing everything they can to keep the game easy for them. If you aren't ready to move up to the big leagues then don't open your legendary tokens. They stay good forever. If you need the 4* essentials and happen to get a 5* then boohoo for you. Sell it, or deal with it.
It's the same thing when people complain about roster slots. Boohoo, I opened this heroic and got a new 3*/4* that I can't use and don't have space for, what do I do? Well....you shouldn't have opened the token. Sell it, or deal with it.
With all that said......it sucks that Ice said scaling wouldn't be impacted by SS when it clearly is. Personally I never believed that, and don't agree that it shouldn't affect your scaling, but it's definitely **** that people were misled.0 -
I doubt they'll ever answer this, but I'll put it here anyways. A boy can dream.
This is just a simple question. Are 5 star characters working as intended for people with lower level rosters when they roster them? People are seeing their PVE nodes get harder (you can possibly debate/deny this) and their PVP become drastically harder from match making (this is fact). The Line Q&A chat said that simply adding a 5 star wouldn't change things.Scoregasms - Hmm, will rostering a 5* actually mess up scaling for those folks that keep an intentionally low roster level?
Scoregasms - Like the 94-100 max roster peeps I see a lot?
IceIX - Nope.
This is not a post looking for solutions, work arounds, or other things. Just a simple "5s are working as we always intended for lower rosters, adapt or sell" or "We didn't intend for 5s to have the impact that they are, and we are working on possible solutions".0 -
I dont know if they are or arent working as intended, but what i do know is that softcapping your roster is not how the game was intended to be played so too bad for all those guys0

I got one each of OML and SS. My highest leveled characer prior to that was 166, I have a bunch of those. My most covered 4* is XfW with 9 covers so I'm not handicapping myself, I just haven't won enough 4* covers to level anybody up yet.
I feel like my pvp difficulty has changed. It feels like I'm seeing higher level opponents earlier. Seems like I used to skip for days and not find anybody worth more than 45, most would be 37-42. Now, I'm seeing lots of 50+ targets. Great right? Not so much when they all have maxed 4s and are all from top 10 alliances who will probably get sick of seeing my name pop up and start considering me a sniper.
Maybe it's just my mmr catching up from hitting 1k in about 12 events in a row? :shrug:0 -
Just out of curiosity, how many other f2p mobile games in this genre punish you and make the game artificially harder when you luck out and get a super rare character out of a token pull/lottery draw/card pull/whatever you want to call it0

Not a lot, but MPQ uses a model where everyone plays in the same pool, which makes scaling a necessity. The other option would be to have tiered levels of difficulty. Contest of Champions does this, where it has a suggested total point value of your team as a minimum to beat that particular quest. The harder the difficulty, the better the rewards. Not sure how easy or hard this would be to implement in MPQ. It would also fragment the playerbase further in terms of bracket filling, and finding high value targets.0 -
So I'm a fairly new player with a couple maxed 2* and a bunch of 3* but none above lvl 80. I played a pve event were my 2* were buffed and grinded my way up to a legendary token. I like the collecting part of the game alot so was only to happy to open the token. Open it up and get a SS black cover. Awesome. immediately put him on my roster even lvled him up to 270. Next couple PvP events I notice I'm being matched up against mostly maxed out 3* teams and have to skip alot just to find someone I can fight. on the upside though SS hits so hard that I'm able to take on tougher people and nodes. I got ahold of D3 to see want was happening and they told me that it wasn't SS but due to my past rankings. seemed like a nice way of them saying piss off.0

I don't know about f2p games, but it wouldn't make sense to keep enemy level stagnant as your power level drastically rises. I don't play clash of clans, but I understand that you tend to get matched up with similar level enemies when going to war. Games like Skyrim scale enemy levels up when you level up as well.
How boring would this game get if you had a bunch of maxed out 4*s and you were still fighting the same goons you fought when you were in 2* land? Not only that, but it would be impossible to ever beat the top players... they would be able to complete the hardest levels in seconds in PvE. Even now, enemy levels aren't scaled well to deal with the 5*s. When match damage alone is dealing more than most of your abilities, you can quickly dispatch otherwise difficult enemies. Even my 4/1/2 Surfer can do thousands of damage just from matching... then heal himself for over 8,000 health if they ever get off an ability.0 -
Just sold my one cover SS. He's just too bad for scaling. Good job, devs.0
-
Similar here for Marvelfamily.
I wouldn't sell the Surfer. It's more difficult, okay, because of the scaling now, but I'm going to learn to handle this, that's my opinion. He's useful, although atm a meat shield, but the team is growing. One day it will be okay.
Nice theoretical idea would be to take him in a sandbox, with a fixed deadline. Maybe 3 days, and you can't take him out, have to wait till the sandbox time is over. That would balance the scaling for this time.0 -
If you have a legendary token, but your roster isn't strong enough to handle increased scaling from a 5* presence you should definitely not open the token right away. Not until you start accumulating 4* roster. I know it sounds counterintuitive, because those tokens can offer 4* as well. But I feel the tokens are meant to ease your 4* transition once you obtained some covers already.0

This seems to be the best advice for now. I can't imagine this will stay this way forever.. Not because it makes the people here on the forums unhappy, but because it sounds like it would be really discouraging to relatively new players still in the 2-3* transition, and discouraging difficulty to new players like that = bad for business..0 -

It's about that time in the thread where we can remind that massive, massive amount of players don't care about scaling/MMR/competitive play. They want to use Silver Surfer, or Captain America, or whoever. They're more than happy to open and use them, and if the game is harder, they don't particularly care.
It's the forumites that are precisely who this effects most; a large chunk of the people here are the ones fighting tooth and nail, and are also precisely the ones that should be following the advice above. If you don't want your scaling screwed up, don't open the token until it won't screw you up.
The handful of people in the 2-3 transition who are competitive and don't read the forums might get discouraged, but hardly enough to really dent the business.0 -
I personally have 7 legendary tokens thus far waiting to be opened, and I dont want to regret having bad scaling due to a luck pull
It is a patience game I guess, and maybe by the time I am ready for 4* transition, I would have so many legendary tokens that even a 6* may be out
A man can dream0 -
One thing I might not of communicated clearly though is that I would never get rid of it.
SS match damage is superior to any other character I have, and better the most of the skills I have.
SS on a critical blue 3 match does 1600 and on just a regular blue match does close to 500. Red and black are similar as well.
I don't know how difficult it would make transitioning to 4* but it's making 3* a lot easier.0
